no idea if this would work on that particular pattern… and if anyone can ever skate better than the Finns :) but damn… one of my favourite programs ever featuring a waltz rhythm is Rakkamo-Kokko (sorry if I screwed the spelling) Sibelius's Valse Triste… it was already one of my favourite pieces of music but their interpretation is just stunning… <3

Maybe if they gave the option of having 2 different choices for the short dance. Or treat it like a true short program and let the skater choose the pattern dance.

That's actually a great idea! That way they'd have to do patterns, so that part is still there, but there's more freedom and variety-plus, that would give each team a chance to do the patterns they're best at, so we would see the absolute best program a team has to offer. Sure, some couples would probably pick the same patterns, but who cares? Two people doing the samba in the same year is still tons better than forty people doing the paso (just an example-40 people doing anything is a bit tedious).

I have a feeling that this is what the isu are slowly working towards. By making these pattern dances into simple elements with key elements, it would make it easier to do this. Jt will ensure that the technical panel will be on their toes.

Just makesure no team decides to do the fourteen step

I know this is for 2015-2016 season SD, but a few days ago, in my jazz dance class, we warmed up/stretched to music which in the beginning had some Spanish-like guitar and my first thoughts that came to my head were Paso Doble and Ice Dancing.

The Shibutanis' SD music will be Coppelia.

Maia tweeted the news just now:

Awesome that a team is already announcing their music! Perhaps it's the Shibs way of staking their claim to music while the other top teams were busy with the WTT. ;)

I wonder if they'll use The Waltz of the Hours which speed and tone already feels suited to Ravensburger

Or if they'll go with cuts of music more traditionally used like what Mirai used in 2008

While the Mazurka she uses at the beginning has the right meter or 3 it doesn't quite fit the Ravensburger to me. I know it's not in 3, but would the rules allow for the music that comes in at 3:18 to be used in the SD? I think it's fabulous for skating and I could see it offering a rousing end to the program.

Then of course there's Swanilda's waltz which also fits the bill to me.

You can tell it's the off-season the way I'm speculating! Anyway I'm looking forward to seeing what they produce. I thought their Paso was such a fabulous leap forward for them, and they've had a whole season with waltz music so I'll be looking forward to seeing how they step up their game to put more pressure on Chock and Bates as well as the other top 4 teams.

I prefer the waltz of the hours, and seeing that beautiful dance of the bolshoi I hope a nice yellow dress

I watched Waltz of the Hours without sound while listening to something decidedly unballetic on Pandora, and OMG, it looked like they were dancing to the song...it was really weird in the best possible way. A bit off the topic (I'm a known drifter-I can't stay on topic to save my life ), I know, but I felt the need to reveal this tidbit. :hijacked:
