Oh yes, he was. Drastically. Is he underscored?
I thought so too. You could see a disappointed look after his score was revealed. People said that his tears were tears of joy, but really? Joy??? I can't help but think the judges gave the other skater more points only to boost his confidence because they want him to win the OGM in Men.Oh yes, he was. Drastically.
The other skater got a huge boost in points, by huge I mean huge, more in Components than in Elements but still.I thought so too. You could see a disappointed look after his score was revealed. Just the fact that Shun got less in PCS means the scoring was a joke..The other skater got a huge boost in points, by huge I mean huge, more in Components than in Elements but still.
Shun Sato seems to have been underscored by several points in Components alone, I think that Spins and Step Sequence ought to be reviewed by someone really competent? With him I wouldn't have been surprised by a Level 3 or two, let's be honest, but there, it was harsh! And those Grades of Execution in the same Spins and Sequences? Were they right?
BUT the scoring discrepancy was predictable. It reproduces a pattern already seen between Yuzuru Hanyu and another American pet, I really hope that this thought will heal his heart and strengthen him before the Individual Event. I'm very happy that Team Japan was cheering him so much!
My dream would be that Yuzuru Hanyu would have his phone number or Line account to cheer him up...
And it's not because the other skater is unable to get better Skating Skills. Have you noticed how deft his skates are when he starts the steps into a jump? This makes me suppose that this skater keeps drilling jumps at training and that his Skating Skills building is neglected in a way which should get his scores down to their real level.Just the fact that Shun got less in PCS means the scoring was a joke..
Re-watching again and the Level for his last spin was harsh. Ilias 4 Lutz should have gotten a UR, and the fall deduction and that should have affected his PCS. Shun going second in PCS is the thing I can live with the least. At least he is a Olympic medalist now but man.And it's not because the other skater is unable to get better Skating Skills. Shun Sato, who like his Senior Yuzuru Hanyu is very drawn to jumps, didn't take this easy way, he chose Yuzuru Hanyu's way of taking not only the physical exhaustion, but also the mental pain of working very hard on his Skating Skills which now allows him such fluidity, grace and elaborate transitions. Yuzuru Hanyu may have started for the scores, to attain Patrick Chan's level, but in the 2018-2022 cycle he could observe that his scores tanked while his skating was progressing, and he went on for the sake of skating (and perhaps the honour of his country). I think that from the start of his focus on better Components, Shun Sato has done it knowing that whatever his results on the ice, he wouldn't get better scores for it?
Still, when the scores are proclaimed after a glorious skate, the hard truth is hard to take.
Basically all his jumps are underrotated, although if he wouldn't let his blade down at landing but kept it nearly horizontal, most of these jumps would pass the fatidic quarter-turn mark.Re-watching again and the Level for his last spin was harsh. I'm not good at reviewing Spins, I'm sure I could forget a call, so I'm not doing it right now. I would be very grateful if someone competent would tell us!And apparently the Olympics is the first time Shun gets an international call being a level 2 spin. Mhm.
Most people don't. The trouble is ISU does and judges do.I think the only weapon he has is his quads and 4A. Make sense because he train with the same coach as Nathan Chen and that boy has no artistry only jumps. But for some reason, people equate artistry and jumps together.
And at the end of the day, their opinions are what matter. Most people don't. The trouble is ISU does and judges do.
