I'm sorry that you paid no attention to his skating. Shun Sato is into his third season of being one of the two "full package" skaters in competition with super-excellent Components and several Quadruple jumps (although his Spins seem to have suffered of very late). It's true that Junhwan Cha and my compatriot Adam Siao Him Fa have much impressed me by their progression! But still, "with clean skates" for all, they're not exactly there. Along with Kao Miura and Petr Gumennik, I think that Shun Sato is one of the only skaters of the moment who can (really) deserve 100 at a Short Program?LOL. NONE of the skaters? Ok. That is a stretch. And you probably wouldn't even pay attention to Shun if he weren't from the holy city.
Good job Shun. Must be a great feeling to know he brought his best when it counted. Congratulations! And his coach lived to talk about it.
Overscoring of some skaters takes many forms, as we say in French, "little streams make big rivers" but of course one must watch carefully to see these streams: ignored underrotations and other calls on Elements, egregious Grades of Execution, Components... I'm sure that Shun Sato knows it but you see, in modern and contemporary Japanese culture, it doesn't matter if it wasn't his fault that his Free Skating at the Team Event was underscored and another was overscored, the result was that he was only second and that Japan wasn't going to get the Gold "because of him" — no matter real responsibilities. It's unfair but it's how things are perceived in Japan and it seems to have tortured him quite a lot. I hope that he can heal in time.

Am over the moon for Shun and Kusaka-sensei!
