Nebelhorn Trophy Senior Short Dance: Results; Protocols

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI4hSUw-JVU

Sofía and Asaf finished 7th out of 17 in the Short Dance, with a score of 64.04.

I was not able to watch LIVE at the time due to catching up on the MotoGP Free Practice 2 from earlier in the day (when I was watching Formula 1 Free Practice 2), but as ever Hielo Español posted the video on YouTube very soon afterwards. So, here is the sort of comment that I would have written for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

Both Sofíá and Asaf wearing all black costumes. Her top is a single square of material tied around her, while her trousers look like she has been crawling over soil. His shirt has small sparklies, while his trousers are made of PVC.

Like the start sequence.

They were going so fast in the Twizzles that it was hard to tell if they were in sync or not!

Sorry that I can't comment on anything more detailed. I was just blown away by them!

What a programme!!! I absolutely loved that!!!

These two could sell ice to the eskimos! And I am definitely buying!

They go into 2nd position.

:cheer: WELL DONE SOFÍA AND ASAF!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

As for the comments that were posted LIVE, my good friend @elektra blue commented:

questionable pants for Sofia and you're skating to Kiss with such plain costumes...booh

To which @Seven Sisters replied:

But I did see her singing along with Kiss, she deserves points for that

Sticking with the costumes, my Norwegian friend @norwegianfairytale commented:

Sofia channeling Shakira with this outfit

Mmmmm. Shakira...

Moving away from the costumes, @LadyB commented:

Totally loved that! They danced to the soundtrack of my school trip to Paris 1979. Fantastic!!!

The music was absolutely brilliant!   (I can't remember what the soundtrack was for my school trip to London in 1997, but "Chihuahua" by DJ BoBo and "Crazy In Love" by Beyoncé were the soundtrack for my school trip to France and Belgium in 2003).

Sofía and Asaf are currently 4.90 points behind 6th position, Utana YOSHIDA / Masaya MORITA (JPN), and 1.00 points ahead of 8th position, Mariia PINCHUK / Mykyta POGORIELOV (UKR). Sofía and Asaf are at the head of a group where 5 partnerships are covered by 3.97 points, stretching down to Leia DOZZI / Pietro PAPETTI (ITA) in 11th position.

If they have a good Free Dance, there is a possibility that Sofía and Asaf could pass Yoshida / Morita. But they would not get any higher than that. But, they have to be on their guard, because if they make any mistakes, there are four partnerships that are able to take advantage of it. And they could slip out of the Top 10.

So, let's hope that they have a good Free Dance and at least maintain their position.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Free Dance is due to start at 15:30:00 CEST (13:30:00 GMT / 14:30:00 BST / 16:30:00 MSK). So 8 hours from now.

Sofía and Asaf will be the 11th partnership to start. So, third and penultimate partnership to go in Group 3 (and third partnership to go after the resurfacing).

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 16:49:40 CEST (14:49:40 GMT / 15:49:40 BST / 17:49:40 MSK). So 9h 19m from now.

Sofía and Asaf are due to start at 17:09:50 CEST (15:09:50 GMT / 16:09:50 BST / 18:09:50 MSK). So 9h 49m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before them withdraws.

Here are the videos:
Sofia&Asaf RD Nebelhorn 2024 64,04
Sofia&Asaf FD Nebelhorn 2024 91,02
Total score 155,06, 11th position

Thank you.  :points:

See, this is what I love about Hielo Español. Not only do they put up videos of all the Spanish skaters, but they do it so quickly.

Right, now I know what I'll be doing first thing in the morning!

But, I'll add the link to the OP now.

Thank you again!

Sofía and Asaf finished 12th out of 17 in the FD, with a score of 91.02. This meant that they dropped to 11th position overall, with a score of 155.06.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch the Nebelhorn Free Dance LIVE. But as ever Hielo Español posted the video on YouTube very soon afterwards. So, here is the sort of comment that I would have written for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

Sofía wearing a red dress, with a lot of illusion mesh cut-outs in the middle. To the extent that it looks to me more like a two-piece costume that happens to be joined together by the occasional strip of material - a bra with sleeves, and a separate skirt. Asaf wearing a black shirt and black trousers, but not the same ones that he wore in the Short.

Ah, I do know this music! Never knew the title or the composer, so didn't realise it was this when I saw it written in their ISU Bio. Yes, I'm going to enjoy this.

Opening Twizzles beautiful. Kept in sync for all sets.

One Foot Turns Sequence also beautiful and in sync.

No problems with the lift either. And I liked the way they ended it.

Next few elements looked impressive too.

Loved the Stationary Lift. And so did the audience, judging by the applause!

After that, it was all beautiful, although there was one point during the Choreographic Step Sequence when it looked like Sofía got tangled up a bit with Asaf, due to being too close to the boards.

But this aside, the programme looked faultless.

Actually, in the first clip shown in the highlights, they did get out of sync. I hadn't spotted that at the time.

They looked relieved when they met Kirill.

The three of them look pretty serious waiting for the scores.

They go into 5th position overall.

Kirill visibly not happy with the scores.

Have to admit, neither am I. I thought everything was beautiful! So, with that in mind...

:cheer: WELL DONE SOFÍA AND ASAF!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And that is all you are getting, because nobody commented about their programme in the competition thread. 😞

Looking at the Protocols, none of the elements stand out as being costly. Everything had positive GOE, and the only minus marks from the Judges were four -1's. For that matter, there were only eight 0's. Everything else was positive.

Then I spotted the reason they finished so low. The Base Value of the programme. Only the partnership that finished in last position had a programme with a total Base Value that was lower than Sofía and Asaf's programme.

Sofía and Asaf finished the Free Dance 5.29 points behind 11th position, Leia DOZZI / Pietro PAPETTI (ITA), and 9.61 points ahead of 13th position, Shira ICHILOV / Dmytriy KRAVCHENKO (ISR).

Overall, Sofía and Asaf finished 1.32 points behind 10th position, Dozzi / Papetti, and 1.64 points ahead of 12th position, Angelina KUDRYAVTSEVA / Ilia KARANKEVICH (CYP).

I am disappointed. They looked so good, yet they finished quite low. There is no way of sugar coating it. If they are going to challenge this season, they are going to have to increase the Base Value of their Free Dance significantly.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

This was supposed to be a reminder for the Sofía and Asaf competing today at the Ondrej Nepela Memorial Trophy in Bratislava, Slovakia. However after preparing it, I went into the Pre-Game Chat thread, and made a discovery.

I am afraid that they have withdrawn, due to a back injury for Sofía:

https://twitter.com/Hieloespanol/status/1849481733495984417

Thank you to Hielo Español for being as efficient as ever in letting everybody know so quickly about the withdrawal, along with the reason.  :points:

And thank you to @Ivana and @saine for alerting us to it in the Pre-Game Chat thread.  :points:

It's a shame that it was not to be, because all three partnerships that were at Spanish Nationals last season were entered, so it would have been interesting to see how their new programmes measured up against each other directly, under the beady eyes of the same panel.

But, Sofía's health and wellbeing is more important.

All the best with your recovery, Sofía. And don't even think of attempting to come back until you are properly recovered!

:ghug:

@CaroLiza_fan, I've been messaging with Sofía this past week and asked her about her injury. She said she's had back pain for a while. She's doing physiotherapy and hopes to continue the season as planned :)

Thank you for the info. It's good to hear she is getting treatment.

I am still toying with the idea of going to Tallinn (although everything is getting more expensive the longer I ponder over it). So, for selfish reasons, I hope she will be feeling suficiently better by then.

But, the main thing is that she takes the time she needs to recover properly. She's young, so she can afford to take as long as is needed.

All the best Sofía!

Sofía and Asaf are back in action today, and hopefully at full fitness, at the Pavel Roman Memorial in Olomouc, in the Czech Republic.

The Senior Short Dance is due to start at 19:30:00 CET (18:30:00 GMT). So 11 hours from now.

Sofía and Asaf will be the 12th and final partnership to start. So, fourth and final partnership to go in Group 3 (and fourth partnership to go after the resurfacing).

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 20:49:20 CET (19:49:20 GMT). So 12h 19m from now.

Sofía and Asaf are due to start at 21:14:50 CET (20:14:50 GMT). So 12h 44m from now.

Pavel Roman Memorial Senior Short Dance: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Sofía and Asaf finished 2nd out of 12 in the Short Dance, with a score of 69.54.

I messed up. I had a feeling that Val / Kazimov were doing back-to-back events this week and next week. But, I couldn't find them on the Entries / Results pages for the IceChallenge or the Denkova-Staviski Cup, so I assumed they had withdrawn to focus on the Tallinn Trophy next week.

I had completely forgotten about the Pavel Roman Memorial being on as well! :drama: :slink:

Sofía and Asaf are currently 0.40 points behind 1st position, Phebe BEKKER / James HERNANDEZ (GBR), and 2.66 points ahead of 3rd position, Gina ZEHNDER / Beda Leon SIEBER (CHE).

Boys but that is close! 😲

I love both partnerships, so I am delighted that they are so close after the Short. It is going to make for a very exciting Free. But, on the other hand, it also puts a lot of pressure on them. And it is going to make it all the more heartbreaking for whoever doesn't win.

Here's hoping that they both have a good Free Dance, and make it an exciting climax to the event.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Free Dance is due to start at 14:50:00 CET (13:50:00 GMT). So 8 hours from now.

Sofía and Asaf will be the 11th and penultimate partnership to start. So, third and penultimate partnership to go in Group 3 (and third partnership to go after the resurfacing).

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 16:18:40 CET (15:18:40 GMT). So 9h 28m from now.

Pavel Roman Memorial Senior Free Dance: Results; Protocols
Pavel Roman Memorial Senior Ice Dance: Results

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQ3MOD7_gAQ

Sofía and Asaf finished 2nd out of 12 in the FD, with a score of 104.24. This meant that they remained in 2nd position overall, with a score of 173.78.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Pavel Roman Memorial, as I was concentrating on the IceChallenge from Graz. But as ever Hielo Español posted the video on YouTube very soon afterwards.

I don't have time to watch it and write a comment right at the moment, due to having a whole pile of reports to write before the Tallinn Trophy starts this afternoon. But, I will do when I get the chance.

Sofía and Asaf finished the Free Dance 6.13 points behind 1st position, Phebe BEKKER / James HERNANDEZ (GBR), and 2.05 points ahead of 3rd position, Gina ZEHNDER / Beda Leon SIEBER (CHE).

Overall, Sofía and Asaf finished 6.53 points behind 1st position, Bekker / Hernandez, and 4.71 points ahead of 3rd position, Zehnder / Sieber.

Well, it seems that the low total Base Values of their programmes at the Nebelhorn Trophy were just a temporary means of making things easier for Sofía while she was suffering with her back. Because they were ramped up for the Pavel Roman Memorial. Indeed, their Free Dance had the third highest Base Value of the field, only surpassed by the two parnerships behind them. That said, there wasn't much difference in the programmes of the entire field. But the fact that Sofía and Asaf were able to beat those two partnerships is a good sign that the quality of their skating can make the difference.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Just a week since their last competitive outing, Sofía and Asaf are back in action today, at the Tallinn Trophy in Estonia.

The Senior Short Dance is due to start at 15:30:00 EET (13:30:00 GMT / 14:30:00 CET / 16:30:00 MSK). So 7 hours from now.

Sofía and Asaf will be the 10th partnership to start. So, first partnership to go in Group 3 (and first partnership to go after the resurfacing).

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 16:56:00 EET (14:56:00 GMT / 15:56:00 CET / 17:56:00 MSK). So 8h 26m from now.

Sofía and Asaf are due to start at 17:01:30 EET (15:01:30 GMT / 16:01:30 CET / 18:01:30 MSK). So 8h 31m from now.

Tallinn Trophy Senior Short Dance: Results; Protocols

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJ7roxMpMHY

Sofía and Asaf finished 8th out of 14 in the Short Dance, with a score of 66.67.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread about the Warm-Up:

Back from watching one of my kids in Dortmund in time to watch two of my kids!

(Somewhat appropriately, the skater I was watching in Dortmund was Anna-Flora Colmor Jepsen, the younger sister of Sofía's first Ice Dance partner, Linus Colmor Jepsen).

Sofía and Asaf were the first out onto the ice. He was in his costume, but she is wearing a blue jacket. But it wasn't on for long,

Saw them practicing their steps.

They weren't actually in camera shot that much. So it's hard to know how they were looking.

But we are going to find out now.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST SOFÍA AND ASAF!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about their programme:

Long wait for the music to start.

But once it did, they were straight into it!

No synchronicity issues with the Twizzles. They were beautiful!

The writing in the TES Box is far too small (they could learn something from the NRW Trophy), so I'll just say that everything after that was beautiful too!

Kirill with them.

Don't know if there is anything interesting going on in the results area because my Dad has come in and stuck his phone in front of my face and is playing a video on it that could keep until later. I hate it when he does that.

They go into 6th position.

I thought it was better than that! So with that in mind:

:cheer: WELL DONE SOFÍA AND ASAF!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Sofía and Asaf are currently 0.78 points behind 7th position, Victoria MANNI / Carlo ROETHLISBERGER (CHE), and 0.41 points ahead of 9th position, Carolane SOUCISSE / Shane FIRUS (IRL). All three partnerships are part of a group of 6 partnerships covered by 4.99 points, stretching from Holly HARRIS / Jason CHAN (AUS) in 5th position, 4.17 points ahead of Sofía and Asaf, down to Lily HENSEN / Nathan LICKERS (CAN) in 10th position, 0.82 points behind Sofía and Asaf.

With a group this close, there is the potential for a lot of movement. So, Sofía and Asaf need to have a good Free Dance to make sure that they move up, rather than down.

Here's hoping they do have that good Free Dance!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Free Dance is due to start at 10:50:00 EET (08:50:00 GMT / 09:50:00 CET / 11:50:00 MSK). So 3 hours from now.

Sofía and Asaf will be the 7th partnership to start. So, third and middle / antepenultimate partnership to go in Group 2 (and antepenultimate partnership to go before the resurfacing).

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 11:26:50 EET (09:26:50 GMT / 10:26:50 CET / 12:26:50 MSK). So 3h 36m from now.

Sofía and Asaf are due to start at 11:48:00 EET (09:48:00 GMT / 10:48:00 CET / 12:48:00 MSK). So 3h 58m from now.

Don't cry! This month is full of competitions, there're plenty of videos to watch in the meanwhile... :console:
:cheeky:

Here is Pavel Roman Memorial video (the previous weekend):

Sofia&Asaf RD Pavel 2024 - 69,54 (no video available)
Sofia&Asal FD Pavel 2024 - 104,24
Total score 173,78 2nd position

Here are Tallin videos (this weekend):

Sofia&Asaf RD Tallin 2024 - 66,67
Sofia&Asaf FD Tallin 2024 - 103,83
Total score 170,50 6th position

Enjoy! :thank:

Thank you so much for the video links, @Olibritt !  :points:

In case anybody is interested, I would just like to explain the reason that the video for the Short at the Tallinn Trophy wasn't in my post. I knew that I had a lot of SP report / FS reminder posts to put up on Sunday morning, so I started writing them on Saturday night. And the one for Sofía and Asaf was the first that I did. So, it was a bit soon for Hielo Español to get the video published.

And then come Sunday morning, it was a panic when I realised that I had got my times mixed up and that Sofía and Asaf were not the first of my skaters to skate. Zarah Wood / Alex Lapsky were actually skating earlier than them. And I hadn't started writing their post yet! :drama: So, I didn't have time to check Hielo Español again before posting Sofía and Asaf's post.

With regards the Pavel Roman Memorial, it is a pity that both myself and Hielo Español forgot that they were competing there, and so missed the Short. But, these things happen. It is hard to keep track of everybody.

I should point out that there is actually a longer video of their Free Dance, which includes more of their introduction. But, it has a lower picture quality. I really appreciate the work that Hielo Español do, and I kinda feel a loyalty towards them. So I used their video for the link in my FD report post. But, I have included links to both videos in the Original Post of this thread.

Anyway, I would need to get stuck into doing the FS reports for the skaters that were in action yesterday. So, I will leave it there.

Thank you again.

:thank:

Sofía and Asaf finished 6th out of 13 in the FD, with a score of 103.83. This meant that they climbed to 6th position overall, with a score of 170.50.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread about the Warm-Up:

I was panicking because I couldn't remember what Sofía and Asaf's FD costumes looked like. But then they went close past the camera.

WOW! I have no idea what you call what they were doing in the middle of the ice shortly before the 1 minute warning, but it was impressive!

Hope it looks as good come the programme!

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about their programme:

Missed first element due to pressing "Post Reply" repeatedly. (Too soon after my previous post).

Actually, I'll keep this post simple. Everything looked beautiful.

And I wasn't the only one that thought that. The people that matter did too, because they got a full green salad! :cheer:   party2: :points: :hb:

This group isn't disappointing!

They go into the lead of both the FS and overall.

They're happy!

:cheer: WELL DONE SOFÍA AND ASAF!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Our resident video archive list compiler, @labgoat , summed everything up perfectly:

Sofia & Azaf are such an attractive couple on the ice. This was a beautiful skate with a lovely flowing style.

Sofía and Asaf finished the Free Dance 4.86 points behind 5th position, Holly HARRIS / Jason CHAN (AUS), and 1.56 points ahead of 6th position, Carolane SOUCISSE / Shane FIRUS (IRL). Sofía and Asaf are at the head of a group of 4 partnerships covered by 4.28 points, stretching down to Lily HENSEN / Nathan LICKERS (CAN) in 9th position.

Overall, Sofía and Asaf finished 9.03 points behind 5th position, Harris / Chan, and 1.97 points ahead of 6th position, Soucisse / Firus. Sofía and Asaf are at the head of a group of 3 partnerships covered by 5.10 points, stretching down to Jensen / Lickers in 9th position.

The withdrawal of Katarina WOLFKOSTIN / Dimitry TSAREVSKI (USA) before the Free Dance was the reason for Sofía and Asaf moving up one position. But the other position they moved up was due to them not only having a programme that had a higher Base Value than Victoria MANNI / Carlo ROETHLISBERGER (ITA), but because they did it better too.

However, they have to be more careful about the length of their lifts, because there will be other competitions that are even closer where they can't afford to be getting deductions for avoidable things like that. And it will cost them positions.

Nevertheless, it was a good weekend for them. Their scores were not that much lower than their Season's Best scores from a week earlier in the Czech Republic.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

I am afraid that Sofía and Asaf have withdrawn from the Bosphorus Cup.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread about the Warm-Up:

Erm, am I blind, or are Sofía and Asaf there?

I can only see four partnerships on the ice. And I don't see my kids amongst them.

Well, if they aren't there, that has made my decision about whether to switch to the Formula 1 or stay with the skating easier.

CaroLiza_fan

Hope they are alright.
