I think Caroline Zhang has the best layback spin in the whole history of figure skating in terms of position (absolutely stunning!) and speed. It will be interesting to see how the judges will mark them at Skate America.

Although Sasha Cohen's spin are very nice and shocked the world at the time, they now look very slow in comparison to Caroline's.

You can't talk about great ladies spinners without talking about Lucinda Ruh. I tried to find some vids on youtube, and there are some of her, but not the ones I was looking for of her as a professional when she just packed programs with fabulous innovative spins that went on for ages.

Her name is Ji-Eun Choi and she did it at the 2005 Four Continents.

IIRC the general opinion (before seeing the move in question) was:

Wow! That sounds cool!

After seeing it, the general reaction was:

Meh....

She certainly did it well enough but it wasn't the Wow! move that some thought it would be.

I have to say, watching the spin from Caroline, it crosses the line for me between flexible and cringe-worthy contortionism. I'm actually a bit grossed out by how far she's twisted out of human norm. Sasha (and I'm no big Sasha fan either) on the other hand demonstrates some beyond-normal flexibility, but it never looks like a circus act (at least in this example.)

Paul Wylie, meanwhile, I could STILL watch all day.

I think that there is something in the water in Switzerland. They are all really great spinners. I saw Lucinda Ruh on the Stars on Ice tour one year and she was just amazing!

Re: "Kayla Catch"- isn't this basically the same spin position that Caroline does? Maybe even Mirai? Was Kayla the 1st person to get credit for it under COP, therefore she is considered the inventor?
