Sota Yamamoto

It’s already 11th in Japan, but happy birthday, Sota! May your 17th year be beautiful and fruitful. May your injury be healed and your recovery be smooth. Always waiting for your comeback!:cheer:

The thread is died but some good news guys:
After all those injuries and surgeries, Sota will take part to nationals!! He got his ticket by finishing 5th at western sectionals.
I have to say that i wasn't expecting this one month ago, when he was doing singles only at his first competition since a while.
He can do some triples now, his content at Western Sectionals :
3T 2T , 2A , 3S 2T , 2A , 3 S, 3T , 2Lo1 Lo2S , 2Lo
132. 94

Hope that he can do more soon.
Do your best Sota!!

Thank you for the news, yume! It's very encouraging to hear about this rapid progress AND qualification to Nationals

Here's a video of Sota's FS and his statement after skating: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hr3L1L6jGTM
My (very amateur) impression: Sota doesn't look very fast, but he kept the pace throughout, he looked very focused and landed everything very well, very nice choreo, good job! He seemed to be in some pain at the end of the skate, though :(

Music: Jekyll and Hyde musical
Total score at the competition (Western sectionals, 2-5 November): 195.18
Official results (in English): http://www.jsfresults.com/non_respo...op.htm,National/2017-2018/fs_e/west/index.htm
Sota had 2nd-highest PCS in both SP and FS after Ryuju Hino :yay:

Here's hoping he's taking good care of his health! Go Sota!

OT: this vid is good practice for my meagre Japanese... me: JIKIRU to HAIDO... :scratch3: me, 5 full seconds later: *penny drops*

Thanks Cleo2070! I can't say how much i love his costume. The cape! (should be longer. Though must be akward for jumps)
Yeah he doesn't seem fast. Maybe the speed Will come with time.

Hope that he takes good rest and doesn't push himself too hard.

Sota's preparation for nationals is going well.
He's on podium in a local competition. Aichi figure skating competition.

This popped up on my twitter: https://twitter.com/SKIjournal/status/943086044479553536
As best as I can tell, it's a figure skating magazine, set to come out on 21 December and one of the articles is about Sota. His quote (not sure if we're talking about his own words, or someone else's description) is 「風のように、流れる水のように」/ `kazenoyōni, nagareru mizu no yō ni', which good ol'GoogleTranslate says is "Like the wind, like flowing water".
I should start learning more Japanese...

Here's a translation of Sota's segment on a Japanese program: https://cantilovertranslations.tumblr.com/post/168768813568/summary-of-sotas-segments-on-one. Not going to lie, I teared up while I was reading it and now I'm tearing up while watching his short program at Nationals. Sota and Adian were always my favorite junior's and it's so heartbreaking that injuries prevented both of these incredibly talented and young skaters from having their ideal skating careers. I hope that Sota remains healthy and continues on his amazing comeback in this upcoming year.

OMG!!! It is so wonderful to see Sota skate again. Such a talented skater. I realized I missed him a lot while watching him skate at Nats. Such smooth, graceful and emotional skating. Good job Sota!!! :agree::clap:

Since it's already January 10 in Japan: Happy 18th birthday, Yamamoto Sota! Many happy skating returns! And please please be healthy this season, as from the moment I first saw you skate (this last Nationals video), I've admired your artistry and would love to see it develop. I don't care about the jumps, this young man's skating is just lovely to watch even when he just glides from one end of the ice to the other.
Sincerely, a new fan from central Europe.

Sota will be back in international competitions at Coupe du Pritemps (3/16
Luxembourg, Kockelscheuer)

I'm so excited to watch him compete again! It's been long since we've seen him compete on an international stage and I'm just happy that he's back on track .

Yes, best of luck to Sota, and all fingers and toes crossed! I don't care about the podium; I just want him happy and healthy, and no falls please? A part of me doesn't want him to do the 3A ever again... (isn't that what caused him the first injury?) :hopelessness: You know the feeling of being a fan of a less known, injury-prone skater and your heart skipping a worried beat every time you see the fanfest updated? That's me at the moment. ^ ^
Too bad there doesn't seem to be a stream from the training hall!
