Spanish National Championships, 11-14 December 2025

Sofía GÓMEZ (MAD) was wearing a dress that made me think of 18th century France. Except that the dress was a LOT shorter than you woulod have got in those days.

The music started with a voiceover introduction. But then it was instrumental for the rest of the programme. Don't know what film it was from, but it was obvious that it was from a film.

That was really good!

I'm not sure if she is slouched in the sofa because she is disappointed, or because she is tired.

Aha, the last of the boys that we will see in the next group, Pablo BUENO GARCÍA (MAD), has arrived to join her.

She goes into 4th position in the FS, and 3rd position overall.

Closing out this group is the last girl not to be from Madrid, Ayala SÁEZ de MATURANA SALAZAR (EUS). She is wearing a yellow dress, over a jumpsuit where the top half is grey and teh bottom half is white.

She is skating to a weird cover of Sia's "Titanium". Hang on, it's turned into even weirder music. Don't know this song at all. But it sounds like something you would hear in a kids' Hallowe'en film.

That was a very strange programme. There are no other words for it.

But it was good!

Same coach with her that was with the other two Basque girls earlier. But they are not with her.

She goes into 3rd position in both the FS and overall.

Right, final group of Advanced Novices. 5 girls, followed by 2 boys. And unlike yesterday, I can actually count all of them on the ice.

Nora CABEZUELO ESPADAS (MAD) is wearing a dress in various shades of yellow and green.

She is skating to "People Help The People" by Birdy.

That was a lovely programme.

She goes into 6th position in the FS, and 4th position overall.

Blanca SALAZAR MARTÍN (MAD) was wearing a dress where the top left hand side was skin coloured, the top right hand side was very dark blue, and the skirt part was white.

She was skating to a re-mix / cover of Linkin Park's "In The End". (It's that long since I heard the original version of the song that I don't know if it was them or not).

She was good.

New leader of both the FS and overall.

CaroLiza_fan

Sofía ORTÍZ RODRIGUEZ (MAD) was wearing a turquoise Chinese style dress. And skating to music from "Turandot". (Not just "Nessun Dorma", although it did come in for the last section of the programme).

That was beautiful.

I would have her as the new leader.

And she is. In both the FS and overall.

Awww. She was surprised!

CaroLiza_fan

Noa FERRARI GARGALLO (MAD) wearing a dirty white dress.

I actually thought it was a "Les Misérables" programme at the start, but soon realised that it was actually "Phantom Of The Opera".

Unfortunately, she had a fall. Which is a pity, because it was really good otherwise.

But she seems happy waiting for her scores.

She goes into 2nd position in both the FS and overall.

She was surprised too!

The final girl to skate, Adriana GERBER ARENAS (MAD), was wearing a purple dress. And doing a "Romeo And Juliette" programme.

I called it before she even reached the second half of the programme. This is our winner.

She may be little, but this girl was at a different level.

Mmmmm. Not by as much as I was expecting.

She goes into 2nd position in the FS, but wins overall.

Awwwww! A massive smile when the scores were announced!

Ah. Mateo SEXMILO ÁLVAREZ (EUS) is a team-mate on my Basque kid. Her coach and her boyfriend (who will be first to skate in Senior Men tonight) were the ones sending him off.

He is wearing all black, and skating to "Dream On" by Aerosmith.

To be honest, although I like the song, it isn't great for skating to.

But, Mateo tried his best.

Jonathan and Iker sitting either side of him for the scores. Jonathan is talking a lot!

He goes into the lead. Obviously.

CaroLiza_fan

Pablo BUENO GARCÍA (MAD) is also wearing all black. But has very different music.

Well, with the massive lead he had from the SP, he was going to win overall anyway. But, he is going to win the FS as well by a considerable margin.

Yep he wins both the FS and overall.

He wins each segment by roughly 20 points.

Resurfacing now, and then we have more Men's skating with the Junior SP segment.

CaroLiza_fan

Whoa! That was a short resurfacing! I went away to do something, and came back to find the Warm-Up had already started!

It's just finished now.

CaroLiza_fan

We start with Raul GARCÍA SHIBINSKAYA (AND).

You know, I often wondered how the name of the son of a Spanish guy and a Russian lady would work. And I don't think anybody knows the answer. Because the Entries / Results page here has the female version of his Mum's surname, but his ISU Bio has the male version of his Mum's surname. :drama:

(Well, if I am totally honest, it was the son of a Spanish guy and a Czech lady that I often wondered about. But, it's the same principle).

Anyway, I'm eating now, so I won't be commenting as much.

Mmmmm. I thought we got through the first two groups of boys very quickly. We've had two withdrawals:

#3 Mario MARTÍNEZ-IÑIGUEZ (MAD) from Group 1
#6 Alain MATILLA JUEZ (EUS) from Group 2.

Since we're at the Warm-Up now, I want to say a few things about the Group 2 skaters.

The first of what was supposed to be back-to-back Basque boys, skater #5 Gonzalo VALLEJO GARCÍA (EUS), is another team-mate of my girl Janire Idiakez. He is currently in 4th position.

Skater #7 David ESCRIBANO SALVADOR (MAD) was skating to a cover of Radiohead's "Creep". I absolutely love that song, but I wasn't keen on this version. He is currently in 3rd position.

Skater #8 Aidan HUESTIS VIÑAS (CAT) was skating to a medley of songs that I didn't know, but I could tell it was Måneskin. Including one in English! He is currently in 6th and last position.

Group 3 stars and ends with Basque skaters. First up is Asier GÓMEZ SERTUTXA (EUS), who was wearing a white shirt, striped tie, and black suit. And skating to "Harry Potter" music.

I wonder if the girl and the guy sitting with him are Senior skaters from his club. Because they look very young to be his coaches.

He goes intlo 6th position.

CaroLiza_fan

Sergio BERMEJO GARCIA-ROMERAL (MAD) wearing traditional Spanish dress.

Oh my goodness! A guy using what I call the Zagitova edit of "Don Quixote"!

He had a fall. And there were a few other issues.

He is sitting on his own, so I wonder if the next skater, André ZAPATA CASARES (MAD), is his team-mate.

He goes into 6th position.

CaroLiza_fan

André ZAPATA CASARES (MAD) was wearing a black suit with white T-shirt underneath.

Now that was a bundle of fun! No idea what the music was, but it was lively!

I enjoyed that. We need more programmes like this!

Such a pity about the fall not long into the second song.

Yep, Sergio BERMEJO GARCIA-ROMERAL (MAD) has stayed on.

André goes into 3rd position.

CaroLiza_fan

Ángel SEARA RODRÍGUEZ (AND) was wearing all black, and skating to a song I didn't know. But I looked up some lyrics, and it is "My Tears Ricochet" by Taylor Swift.

This may have been my first time hearing that song, but I hope it is not the last. It makes a good skating programme.

I enjoyed that.

Ha! As well as his coach, the other Andorran skaters are sitting with him. Raul GARCÍA SHIBINSKAYA and Enola POULAIN.

Ángel goes into 9th position. Raul is still in 2nd position.

CaroLiza_fan

And we finish off the Junior Men's SP with another Basque boy skating to Aerosmith. But this time Pablo AZURMENDI GALICIA (EUS) is skating to "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing".

He is another wearing all black.

Boys but this song always produces great programmes!

He goes into 5th position.
