I think they are meant to cover up what she may perceive as her "problem areas" (or camouflage her shape as a whole if she is not comfortable with it) and show off her assets.

As should all good clothing. Dressing to emphasis your strengths and hide any perceived weaknesses is only logical. I really like the LP costume. The SP one is ugly. I have no problem with sleeves for both costumes but the SP one looks poorly cut and the colour is very dull compared to the LP one.

But it's not like all her rivals have perfect skating dresses either. Most of them have areas they could improve on.

I am SO impressed with her! She's tiny but, wow!, she packed a punch: nice edges, great Julia-esque spins, a clean looking 3L-3L, a Rippon 3S, decent relation to the music and nice presentation. Who is she? :cheer2:

That's Russian junior nationals. It is their qualifying competition for junior worlds.

No, she didn't win. Not sure why she is holding the trophy, but she placed 5th. Could the photo with the trophy be from a different competition?

ETA: Well at least she got top 5.

I recognized 3 skaters (Sakhanovich, Sotskova and Iushenko I think...) but the two who really caught my eye were Nugumanova and whoever this is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BH0aQMCKpA4 I'll admit I spent the first two minutes criticizing that horrible outfit she was wearing but then I started paying attention to how big, airy and light her jumps were. Very nice.

I assumed (based on rep) that Serafima might have won. I like the speed, power and "voidy-ness" of Serafima's skating but she's SO rough around the edges. I really like her personality on the ice but her skating is just not that pleasant to watch IMO.

That's Tsurskaya. She will be junior eligible next season. She is taught by Tutberidze (same as Medvedeva and Sakhanovich) and she is the strongest skater of the next season newly eligible juniors.

Some remarks after the Russian junior nationals.

Being both a Russian and an overall FS fan I have a split consiousness on the topic which is discussed in another thread - the number of spots for main events. As a Russian I would not say that the talent is going to be wasted - no there are still chances to prove themselves but I would press with the idea to let them all compete where they want because they are so good. As an FS fan I understand that it might further hit the sport. The first 6 ladies in the junior Russian nationals all could compete for getting into top 10 in the senior Worlds including the 12 year old Nugumanova with 3Lo-3Lo combo and almost Lipnitskaya quality spins and 12 year old Gubanova with 3Lz-3Lo and 3Lz-3T-2T combos in 1 LP. It would be both humiliating and uninteresting for many including long time FS followers to watch how 10 Russians compete with one another and about 5 skaters from other countries.

Medvedeva is in the top shape now, she is way ahead of anyone and the sure #1 contender for the junior world gold. One could argue about some national inflation. But based on her senior national scores vs. Radionova and Tuktamysheva's Europe results this inflation is not more than 5 points. And she had 204 at seniors and 205 at juniors. Hence, if she skates the way she did today her score will be around 200 - there is no one who can do the same.

Sotskova managed for the first time this season to win over Sakhanovich. She had some shaky landings and a popped axel. Otherwise, her skating was very gracious and mature. If she stays clean she is a sure podium contender and a good promise for the future because she offers what a lot of people are missing - beautiful skating.

Sima is struggling. I was shocked by her very first skating at jgp this season. Since then it has been a rough road. There are rumors about growth issues. I still hope that she will deliver and we will have yet another sweep.

Tsurskaya was a small letdown this time. Her primary feauture is big stable jumps with a lot of areas for improvements in other departments. This time her first lutz failed her and there were some other minor issues. As she is quite tall at 13 already next season when she enters the jgp circle might be a challenge for her. But she is a talent without doubt.

Gubanova and Nugumanova are 2 super bright youngsters. It is impossible to predict their future now. But it looks like they are already big competitors with each other having taken 5th and 6th places letting only "the prominent grands" and Tsurskaya ahead.

That horrific outfit is absolutely awesome and it made the whole program work a lot better than beforehand.
 
Evgenia is my favorite Junior of the Russians. Her skating and performance seems more polished and more nuanced than Radionova and Tuktumashiva...whom I also really enjoy watching.
How do others feel about how Evgenia matches up to the current Top 2 Russian Ladies?

Clearly she seems to be the best Junior at this point in time. Still appears too junior-ish to me for a direct comparison to Liza or Elena, who both have strengths that far exceed Evgenia right now. But if she were able to compete on a Senior level this year, I would bet she would have no problem landing a position right behind Liza/Elena (sorry Anna)...

IMO there was way too much going on in her FS outfit. If you liked it then fine, but IMO that was overdone and kinda tacky. Less is more and she had way more than she needed in that one. :disapp:

I've been a fan of Evgenia for a while. I've said it before but last year when so many posters were kinda trashing her (including people on here) I just didn't get where they were coming from. She was my favorite junior last year too. I'm glad she's improved and really pulled herself up this year.

Compared to the other top 2 Russians I think she's a match, but not an even match. She's got a great base but next to Elena and Liza T, I don't think she has a big enough presence on the ice yet. Those two really know how to sell their programs and bring the judges in. I don't think Evgenia's completely blank out there, but she doesn't project/perform as much as she needs to in order to compete with those two in PE and IN. I agree that with Julia and Adelina as question marks right now Evgenia would be a solid #3 over Anna. Poor Anna, bless her heart, she just doesn't have much of an "IT" factor compared to Liza T, Elena, Evgenia, Julia or Adelina. She'll need to make some changes to her skating soon or she may end up being the one to get bumped out next year. She'd have been bumped out this year had Adelina come back or Julia not had a such a terrible season.
