State of Russian Ladies in skating: 2014-15 Season

Elena is so gorgeous in those photos. I hope she stops growing taller soon. Considering how much she has grown, she has accomplished so much.
From what you reported about Yulia, I somehow feel it's the end of her career: especially the gained weight part. She does not have the best technique to start with, and now weight...
Some updates.

Liza tried 3A in SP in Obersdorf. She fully rotated it but fell. She received 66 anyway but cancelled the FP. Mishin says that the fall happened because she overrotated the jump. He claimed that her 3a gets more and more stable and they plan to try it at the worlds.

Radionova gave an interview to Sovsport which was published with very stylish pictures of her. http://www.sovsport.ru/gazeta/article-item/778145 She said that she grew 9 cm since the last year and continues to grow. But so far there is no toll on her coordination and jumps. She also contradicted Liza's earlier statement that there are no friends among skaters having said that she is a friend with Adelina. Finally she denied the rumors that she was going to change the coach.

Yulia did not skate a month and apparently gained some weight. She also gave a detailed interview. She shared for the first time multiple health issues she had, admitted that after the Olympics everything became worse - she could not easily cope with the growth. She also has to be on a strict diet. She is not sure if the next season is going to be good. She will completely rework some of her jumps. But the key thing is that she is not going to quit at least that's the mood she professed during the interview.

Elena is so lucky that she is adapting very easy to her growth. I am worried for Satoko, she doesn´t look like she can get taller, but she definitly will gain weight, it is just natural, even Akiko being so thin and tiny looks bigger than Satoko, and I don´t know if Satoko can adapt to those changes.

Given how wonky some of her jumps have looked this seasons, I disagree on the 'no toll on her coordination and jumps'.

It's amazing how she's been able to do what she's done with the issues that she has had with her boots and thus her feet. Maybe the big key to her getting better with her jumps is getting some boots that work better for her feet.

Guess the stage is set for Worlds next month. Things are looking pretty good on the Russian ladies side of things. ;)

Yes, we will have to wait for the Russian ladies to save the day in ladies event.

Yeah seriously, 4CC was uninspiring, I'm looking forward to Elena and Elizaveta battling it out, they don't have all the skating qualities that I love but I love their tenacity and fight, that killer instinct is what I'm looking for

Wow Liza trying the triple axel really makes things interesting. It could bring her huge advantage in the SP but if she falls she'll be further behind Elena and have more ground to make up. I can't wait for worlds!!

Elena is still about 3 inches shorter than Anna, who has also grown a lot over the past couple of years and can still jump well. They both have the long legged slender build, so hopefully Elena will continue to jump well as she grows. I don't think it's out of the realms of possibility.

If she blows it at Worlds due to an errorant 3a then people will second guess her decision to include it. If she comes up short at worlds without the 3a people will then second guess her for not going for it in what may prove to be the best shot she will ever have at a world title. I'm not sure there will ever be a clear answer to this quandary. I think it comes down to what a skater and coach feel on the inside will be the best plan of attack. I think we can infer from this that Mishin and Liza are comfortable gambling and going for it all.

I can respect that but boy oh boy....

^Or she can just win Worlds. With or without 3A, just like she did Europeans.

Or she can prove in the coming years that this wasn't her best/only shot at a World title.

I don't think it's her only shot by any means but it is probably her best. Who knows? I would love to see her win Worlds.

It makes the most sense not to go for the 3A. She could really dig a hole for herself if she doesn't land it cleanly. It's better to set herself up for a victory and force Radionova to go clean and with quality than dig a hole.

If she comes up short at Worlds without including it that will get some criticism, but not as much criticism as she would face if she bombed her SP by investing in the 3A and had to play catch up and couldn't even do better than silver.

It would have been more ideal if Liza was attempting a 3A all season long instead of just chucking it out at Worlds after not doing it during the season when she was challenging for gold in every competition. Its a huge risk to do it that way. But if she's comfortable and confident with it then I say go for it!

Besides its 2015, 3 years from the Olympics, not one or even two. Might as well get comfortable with it in competition now when there is time then much closer to the Olympics when it could throw her off at a more important time. I think team Liza is really aiming for 2018 even though a World title in 2015 would be fantastic as well.

I think risking the 3A is a bigger gamble than it would be worth but I'm cool with her attempting it. Personally I think the smarter strategy would be swapping the 3T-3T for the 3Lz-3T. That will make up the points she loses to Elena right there. She can tie/surpass Elena in TES in the FS, and if she does the 3Lz-3T she'll likely go into the SP with the lead. I think the 3Lz-3T is a less risky gamble that has a higher probability of paying off. We'll just have to see what she does.

Anna Pogorilaya's interview of today:

''We have very tough competition within the team. Every day I come to practice knowing that if I don't put in 100%, I will be out and my spot on the team will be taken by someone else.

Right now the most important thing is to achieve consistency. Of course, it is possible to add some element that nobody yet had done e.g. a quad but it would not improve consistency''
