Skate Helena Junior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Stefania finished 8th out of 34 in the SP, with a score of 46.40.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch Skate Helena, as I was concentrating on the European Championships.

Looking at the Protocols, she had an iffy start, but then recovered for the rest of the programme. The opening element was supposed to be a Triple Lutz done in combination, but something happened that meant she wasn't able to attach the second jump. It got a massive GOE hit of -2.95, and -5 from all the Judges.

The second element, the Triple Flip, was under-rotated. It got -0.99 in GOE; -3 from two Judges; and -2 from three Judges.

But, everything seemed to go fine after that. Apart from a couple of -1's and a solitary -2, it was all positive or neutral numbers.

Stefania is currently 0.86 points behind 7th position, Cayetana GONZÁLEZ (MEX), and 2.12 points ahead of 9th position, Zoja KRAMAR (SVN). Zoja Kramar is at the head of a group where 8 skaters are covered by 3.44 points, stretching down to Krista GEORGIEVA (BUL) in 16th position, 5.56 points behind Stefania.

Being realistic, moving up one position is probably the best that Stefania could hope for. The 5.00 point gap ahead of González to Arina VOROBEVA (GBR) in 6th position is probably too big to jump. However, the more pressing issue is the group behind her. If Stefania were to drop behind Kramar, she could easily tumble down the order, potentially even out of the Top 15.

So, Stefania really needs to have a good Feee Skate to make sure that she avoids getting eaten up by the group.

:cheer: WELL DONE STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

The Junior Ladies FS is due to start at 09:30:00 CET (08:30:00 GMT / 10:30:00 EET / 11:30:00 MSK). So 2 hours from now.

Stefania will be the 17th skater to start. So, fifth and penultimate skater to go in Group 3 (and fifth skater afer the resurfacing).

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 11:05:10 CET (10:05:10 GMT / 12:05:10 EET / 13:05:10 MSK). So 3h 35m from now.

Stefania is due to start at 11:37:00 CET (10:37:00 GMT / 12:37:00 EET / 13:37:00 MSK). So 4h 7m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.

Stefania finished 8th out of 23 in the FS, with a score of 87.60. This meant that she climbed to 7th position overall, with a score of 134.00.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch Skate Helena, as I was concentrating on the European Championships.

Looking at the Protocols, they are not pretty. The first four rows of the table were wall to wall negative numbers. Later on in the second half of the programmme, the Triple Loop-Double Toe had something that I have not seen too often - a row that was completely neutral. 0.00 in GOE and 0 from all the Judges. Unfortunately, this was followed by two more elements with wall to wall negative numbers.

In total, she had four under-rotated jumps. And the Triple Loop she did on it's own in the first half of the programme was under-rotated.

Stefania finished the Free Skate 5.50 points behind 7th position, Simona TKACHMAN (ISR), and 7.97 points ahead of 9th position, Cayetana GONZÁLEZ (MEX).

Overall, Stefania finished 2.21 points behind 7th position, Krista GEORGIEVA (BUL), and 2.35 points ahead of 9th position, Sayra BESSIRE (CHE).

Well, Stefania did finish behind the girl that was at the bottom of that big group behind her after the SP, Georgieva. But that was purely because Georgieva had such a good FS that she advanced 10 positions!

Stefania was in the surreal situation where she finished in the same position in each segment, but then moved up a position in the overall standings.

There is no getting around it: Stefania had a nightmare Free Skate. But the thing that saved her was the high Base Value of her programme. All the skaters below Stefania had programmes whose Base Value was considerably lower than her's. Of the skaters below her, the programme whose Base Value was nearest to that of Stefania's programme was 4.19 points lower. But that skater, Arina VOROBEVA (GBR), also had a nightmare skate, with 4 falls!

Apart from Georgieva, everybody ahead of Stefania in the FS had a programme with a higher Base Value.

I don't know if Stefania has any competitions in her sight between now and Junior Worlds. But, I really hope she does. Because if this is the last programme she does before Junior Worlds, it could affect her confidence. But if she does another competition, it would displace this from the front of her mind.

But anyway, all things considered, a 7th position is a great result. So...

:cheer: WELL DONE STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

Well, we didn't have to wait long for Stefania to expunge Skate Helena from the front of her mind.

Given that she lives in the UAE, I was expecting Stefania to be taking part in this week's Union Figure Skating Trophy in Abu Dhabi, the UAE. And indeed she is!

The Junior Ladies SP is due to start today at 20:21:00 GST (16:21:00 GMT / 18:21:00 EET / 19:21:00 MSK). So 10 hours from now.

Stefania will be the 1st skater to start. So, first skater to go in Group 1.

The Group 1 Warm-Up is due to start at 20:21:00 GST (16:21:00 GMT / 18:21:00 EET / 19:21:00 MSK). So 10 hours from now.

And that is as much as I can tell you, because the Time Schedule PDF's don't work.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.

Union Figure Skating Trophy Junior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Stefania finished 1st out of 16 in the SP, with a score of 55.17.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch Union Figure Skating Trophy.

Looking at the Protocols, they are beautiful. There was only one negative number in the whole table: a -1 that Judge 2 gave for her opening Triple Flip. Actually, apart from that solitary -1, the first two elements were completely neutral. But after that, all the elements had completely postive rows of numbers. In terms of Judges marks, there were a few +1's, but it was mostly +2's

Stefania is currently 5.54 points ahead of 2nd position, Darja TRUBITSON (FIN), and 8.05 points ahead of 3rd position, Zere SARBALINA (KAZ).

I don't like counting my chickens. Especially after what happened in the Free Skate last week. But, let's just say that it is looking very good for Stefania to be going back up the road to Dubai with yellowish metalware in her pocket.

:cheer: WELL DONE STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

The Junior Ladies FS is due to start at 11:30:00 GST (07:30:00 GMT / 09:30:00 EET / 10:30:00 MSK). So 2 hours from now.

Stefania will be the 16th and final skater to start.

And that is as much as I can tell you, because the Time Schedule PDF's don't work, and the start order hasn't been added to the livescoring page yet either. :drama:

Union Figure Skating Trophy Junior Ladies FS: Results; Protocols
Union Figure Skating Trophy Junior Ladies: Results

No video uploaded yet 😞

Stefania finished 1st out of 16 in the FS, with a score of 104.15. This meant that remained in 1st position overall, with a score of 159.32.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch Union Figure Skating Trophy.

Looking at the Protocols, Stefania did have a few issues. The Triple Lutz that she did on it's own as her third element wass landed on the quarter. It got -1.18 in GOE, and -2 from all the Judges. In the second half of the programme, she fell on the Triple Loop. It was also under-rotated. It got -1.96 in GOE, and -5 from all the Judges. The was also some sort of issue with the following element, the Triple Toe, as it got -0.42 in GOE and -1 from all the Judges. But, the Protocols don't tell us what the issue was.

Fortunately, these were the only elements that had any negative numbers beside them. Everything else went well for Stefania.

Stefania finished the Free Skate 4.54 points ahead of 2nd position, Darja TRUBITSON (FIN), and 22.37 points ahead of 3rd position, Zere SARBALINA (KAZ).

Overall, Stefania finished 10.08 points ahead of 2nd position, Trubitson, and 30.42 points ahead of 3rd position, Sarbalina.

I should point out that the Top 2 were miles ahead of everybody else on TES, because their programmes had Base Values that were considerably higher than the rest of the field. But, there wasn't much to separate them from each other. Stefania's Base Value was 58.06, which dropped down to a TES of 57.75 when GOE was applied. Trubitson's Base Value was 56.11, which rose to a TES of 57.10 when GOE was applied.

Weronika FERLIN (POL) had the third highest Base Value, 46.20, which became the third highest TES, 46.59, when GOE was applied. But her PCS was only 27.33, which meant she finished in 5th in the FS.

And on that note, it was the PCS that won Stefania the Free Skate. Stefania's PCS was 47.40. Trubitson's PCS was 42.51.

Oh, and after getting her 3rd highest ever SP score here, she also got her 2nd highest ever FS score and her Absolute PB overall score!

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

After what happened last week at Skate Helena, this was just what Stefania needed. It would have been a real cloud hanging over her if she had gone to Junior Worlds with a nightmare skate in the FS at Skate Helena as her most recent competitive outing. Now she can go to Debrecen feeling confident having won both segments and the title here.

:cheer: WELL DONE STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

Hot on the heels of her victory in Abu Dhabi, Stefania is back in action today at the Junior Junior World Championships in Debrecen, Hungary.

The Junior Ladies SP is due to start at 11:30:00 CET (10:30:00 GMT / 12:30:00 EET / 13:30:00 MSK). So 5 hours from now.

Stefania will be the 22nd skater to start. So, fourth and antepenultimate skater to go in Group 4 (and antepenultimate skater to go before the second resurfacing).

The Group 4 Warm-Up is due to start at 13:52:30 CET (12:52:30 GMT / 14:52:30 EET / 15:52:30 MSK). So 6h 22m from now.

Stefania is due to start at 14:17:00 CET (13:17:00 GMT / 15:17:00 EET / 16:17:00 MSK). So 6h 47m from now.

Junior World Championships Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Stefania finished 19th out of 48 in the SP, with a score of 55.45.

Here is what I wrote about her in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

Ooooh. Ted attempted to say Stefania's name in a Russian accent at the start of the Warm-Up.

Eeek!   Scary moment when we switched to a camera high in the stands to change focus from Petra LAHTI (NZL) to Amanda GHEZZO (ITA). Stefania was doing a jump, and when she was high up in the air when Venla SINISALO (FIN) arrived on the scene. Venla had to change direction very quickly to avoid what could have been a masive collision.

Here is my little Gladiatrix. She did a beautiful combination jump just after we joined her. And then she circled around and did an individual jump. Although, she didn't have the best of landings, and nearly had a hand down.

Next time we saw her was when she was coming off the ice. And she was met by Sergei, who was carrying Simone the Sloth 🦥

Right, back to dinner. I'll return for Stefania's programme.

CaroLiza_fan

Here is what I wrote when she was being introduced:

Time for another break from the F1 and my dinner.

And now, as the filling in our Italian sandwich, we have a Gladiatrix. My baby girl!!!

And given that my other kid is in last position, my last hope of having a kid in the Free.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about her programme:

Close up of Sergei before the start.

Stefania is concentrating intensely when they showed a close up of the starting position.

Beautiful Triple Flip to start with.

Just about landed both parts of the combination.

Beautiful flying Camel Spin. And the Combination Spin that followed was beautiful too.

I liked the way she finished the Double Axel.

Was that a fall or choreograaphy?

I think the latter, because it was followed by a cartwheel. 🤸‍♀️

Step Sequence went good.

And a lovely Layback Spin to finish the programme.

She's got a massive smile coming off the ice. And so do I!

Stefania's getting very tall. Looks taller than Sergei now. But she'll aways be my baby girl.

She goes into 2nd position. 1.59 points behind current leader Arina KALUGINA (AZE).

And she is delighted!!! And so is Sergei!!! And so is CaroLiza_fan!!!

I am so proud of her.

:cheer: WELL DONE STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

In terms of other members, the first to comment was my good friend in Sicily, @elektra blue. She maintains that she is Auntie to all my kids, so she was posting this as some family advice to her niece:

Stefania i get the theme, but that naked illusion is not a great choice

The next commen came from one of our members in Poland, @cocteautwin:

All green lights for Stefania 👏 Really nice program.

I have to admit, I was enjoying the moment so much that I didn't even notice the green lights. :p

And to round it up, our bastion of positivity, @Jeanie19:

Stefania. Nice outfit. Great program, great skate and a fantastic cartwheel. :dance3::bsplit:

Yep. I agree on all points! Even if I'm not a fan of cartwheels in figure skating!

Looking at the Protocols, if you ignore Judge 9's column, there were no negative numbers next to any of the elements. Apart from the Step Sequence (where he gave +3 when most of the other Judges gave +2), Judge 9 was consistently scoring lower than the other Judges. He gave -2 for three elements in a row: the second element (Triple Lutz-Double Toe); the third element (Flying Camel Spin); and fourth element (Change Foot Combination Spin).

All of the GOE's were positive.

Stefania is currently 0.85 points behind 18th position, Angel DELEVAQUE (NED), and 0.32 points ahead of 20th position, Sofya TITOVA (ARM). All three of them are part of a group where 29 skaters are covered by 14.98 points, stretching from Inga GURGENIDZE (GEO) in 2nd position, 12.02 points ahead of Stefania, down to Gabrielė JUŠKAITĖ (LTU) in 30th position, 2.96 points behind Stefania.

Of course, Junior Worlds has a cut off where only 24 Ladies Singles skaters go through to the Free Skate segment. So, Stefania actually only has 5 skaters to worry about being behind her. The skater in 24th position, Kira BARANOVSKA (LAT) is 2.01 points behind Stefania.

When you have the whole of the Free Skate field apart from the leader covered by just 14.03 points, anything can happen. SO, to make sure she moves up rather than down, Stefania needs to have a good Free Skate.

But after seeing how well her Short Programme went, I am sure that she will have a good Free Skate!

:cheer: WELL DONE STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

The Junior Ladies FS is due to start at 13:00:00 CET (12:00:00 GMT / 14:00:00 EET / 15:00:00 MSK). So 6 hours from now.

Stefania will be the 6th skater to start. So sixth and final skater to go in Group 1.

The Group 1 Warm-Up is due to start at 13:00:00 CET (12:00:00 GMT / 14:00:00 EET / 15:00:00 MSK). So 6 hours from now.

Stefania is due to start at 13:41:30 CET (12:41:30 GMT / 14:41:30 EET / 15:41:30 MSK). So 6h 41m from now.

Stefania finished 21st out of 24 in the FS, with a score of 102.67. This meant that she dropped to 22nd position overall, with a score of 158.12.

Here is what I wrote about her in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

Stefania jumped the queue! She was supposed to be the last in line, but she was actually the penultimate skater to go onto the ice!

When the camera started focussing on the first skater, Kira BARANOVSKA (LAT), we got a good view of Stefania lining up a jump in the foreground, before going out of shot.

Just before the camera started focussing on KIM Yujae (KOR), it went to a high up shot and we saw Stefania doing a really good and long jump.

She crept into shot when at the start of Sofya TITOVA (ARM) being focussed on.

When we came to Stefania, we saw her circling around, and then doing a jump right in front of Sergei. It was very nearly a hand down, and she went immediately over to him.

We saw her again towards the end of the Warm-Up, rotating alongside the boards. And then the camera cut to Sergei, who was looking very serious.

There have been 2 withdrawals from the Open De Logroño, so Janire should be finished her FS before Stefania starts her FS.

Looking forward to seeing both of my kids!

CaroLiza_fan

Here is what I wrote when she was being introduced:

One kid down, one to go.

My Basque kid had a good skate in Logroño. So hopefully my baby girl will in Debrecen too!

:cheer: ALL THE BEST STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about her programme:

Shot of Sergei looking serious holding a sloth.

This dress is blending into the ice too well. But it is beautiful, so I won't complain too much.

I like the music for this new programme.

Beautiful combination to start with.

And another.

Not sure about this lying on the ice.

Triple Lutz good.

She's enjoying this.

Next combination was a bit iffy.

But the camel spin was beautiful.

Choregraphic sequence good.

Oh. Not a great landing on Tripel Loop

But she made up for it n the Triple Toe.

Double Salchow good too!

Last few spins were rerally good too

They showed Sergei again as soon as she finished, and I haven't seen him with a bigger smile!

Stefania is delighted too - she gave us a big smile and a double wave when she came off the ice.

They are both happy sitting waiting for the scores.

She foes into 4th position in both the FS and overall.

But she's still happy. And so am I!

:cheer: WELL DONE STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

The first comment about her programme came from Canada, when @RatedPG replied to my good luck message with this:

She was so good!!!! 😝
Such big jumps!!

Auntie @elektra blue was not dressing anything up:

started strong, then she messed a lot.

But was a bit more positive:

I will always have a soft spot for Singin in the Rain. I like this program conceptually a lot and she is very charismatic. I dont know how she got plus for the first 3-2 though I thought the Lutz looked rough.

Well spotted. The protocols say the Lutz in the combination was landed on the quarter.

My friend in Norway, @norwegianfairytale, commented:

Stefania did well :clap: Will this be the best placement for Cyprus at women junior wolrds?

To which I replied (rather later, because I was writing my post):

Best scores - yes.

Best position - Probably not. Stefania is the only skater from Cyprus that has been to Junior Worlds. And her best finish was 17th in 2023.

So, we'll just have to wait and see.

By the way, my other kid in action today, Janire IDIAKEZ (ESP), won the 🥉 Bronze Medal in Senior A Ladies at the Open De Logroño!!!

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

Right, I'm away to have my dinner now.

All the best to those still to skate.

CaroLiza_fan

Apart from that reply, the final post about Stefania came from @Jumping_Bean, who was doing Play-By-Plays during the Ladies FS:

Fun program, and some good jumping passes. Great picking technique on the toe jumps, and what a deep Lutz edge. Stefania looks so tall now, she used to be tiny two or so years ago.

She is definitely a lot taller! I am really curious to know what height she actually is now, because that line on her ISU Bio is blank (and has always been).

After that comprehensive PBP post, this would probably be a good time to look at the Protocols. She had six elements with negative GOE and no positive marks from the Judges. Of these, the most costly were the two Triple-Double combination jumps in the first half of the programme. Her second element, the aforementioned Triple Lutz-Double Toe where the Lutz was landed on the quarter, got -1.10 in GOE; and -3 from Judge 7; -2 from six Juges; and -2 from two Judges. The fourth element, the Triple Loop-Double Toe, got -1.12 in GOE; and -4 from Judge 7; -3 from three Judges; -2 from three Judges; and -1 from two Judges.

The individual Triple Lutz that she did in between them as her third element went slightly better, with GOE of -0.59; and -2 from Judge 7; -1 from seven Judges; and 0 from Judge 1.

Yes, you guessed it, Judge 7 was the same guy from South Africa that was Judge 9 in the SP.

Despite three of them having no positive numbers beside them, the first four elements were the four highest scoring elements of the programme, due to their high Base Values. Which just goes to show that elements with high Base Values can still be high scoring even if they are not perfect.

I'll not go through the rest of the elements, except to say that the Triple Toe that she did in the second half of the programme was also landed on the quarter. It had the third biggest GOE hit at -0.84; and it got -2 from all nine Judges.

Stefania finished the Free Skate 1.99 points behind 20th position, Sofya TITOVA (ARM), and 2.32 points ahead of 22nd position, Polina DZSUMANYIJAZOVA (HUN).

Overall, Stefania finished 1.27 points behind 21st position, Dzsumanyijazova, and 9.09 points ahead of 23rd position, Kira BARANOVSKA (LAT). Stefania was the bottom skater in a group of 3 skaters covered by 1.67 points, which was headed by Titova in 20th position.

Well, the FS didn't go as well as it did in Abu Dhabi a couple of weeks earlier, and Stefania ended up dropping positions. But, as I pointed out in the competition thread, these are the highest scores achieved at Junior Worlds by a skater representing Cyprus. Even higher than she achieved a couple of years ago when she finished in a higher position.

Frankly, positions don't show how somebody is progressing. Scores do. So, things are heading in the right direction in that respect.

And on that note, her SP score was her highest of the season, surpassing what she got in Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile her FS and overall scores were her second highest of the season, and not that far behind what she achieved in Abu Dhabi.

All in all, since the disaster of Skate Helena, Stefania has been in the best form that she has for years. And it is happening at the right time of the season, for Junior Worlds and Nationals (not that I know when Nationals are this season. But, they are always towards the end of the season).

We won't have long to wait to see Stefania again. Because she is down to compete in the Maria Olszewska Memorial in Łódź, Poland, this coming weekend.

:cheer: WELL DONE STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

Sorry to disappoint all Stefa-fans out there, but I'm afraid that she is giving this a miss.

Well, it's been a busy few weeks for Stefania, competing in Belgrade (SRB), Abu Dhabi (UAE), and Debrecen (HUN). I think she has more than earned a well deserved break.

Looking forward to when we see her again.

Triglav Trophy Junior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Stefania finished 1st out of 38 in the SP, with a score of 57.26.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Triglav Trophy, as there was Formula 1, MotoGP and World Superbikes all on this weekend.

That said, at the end of the day, I checked the results for the SP segments from all the categories, and put up a post in the competition thread. The first part of the post was complaining about them still going ahead with having a cut-off for Junior Ladies despite there being time for everybody to do their FS on Sunday due to the sheer number of withdrawals from the four SP competitions. But the second part was about Stefania:

But there is something that is making up for this...

:cheer: MY BABY GIRL WON THE JUNIOR LADIES SHORT PROGRAMME!!! :cheer:

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

And by a good margin too!

Oh, I hope Stefania has a great Free Skate tomorrow! After everything she went through last season, she deserves it.

CaroLiza_fan

Looking at the Protocols, Stefania had no issues whatsoever. There was only one negative number on the whole table, and that was a -1 from Judge 4 for the Layback Spin at the end of the programme. Hey, for that matter, there were only three 0's. Apart from a +3 from Judge 3 for the Step Sequence, all the remaining Judges marks were +1 or +2.

The lowest GOE was +0.18 for the Layback Spin. But, this was an outlier. The rest of the elements ranged from +0.32 for the Flying Camel Spin to +1.06 for the opening Triple Flip.

Stefania is currently 4.30 points ahead of 2nd position, Chiara MINIGHINI (ITA), and 4.43 points ahead of 3rd position, Hannah FRANK (AUT).

Minighini is at the head of a group where 6 skaters are covered by 2.06 points, stretching down to Nicole de ROSA (ITA) in 7th position, 6.36 points behind Stefania.

I don't want to count chickens, but Stefania is in a very strong position. If she can put in a good Free Skate, she should be able to hold on to the lead.

And boys but I hope she does!

:cheer: WELL DONE STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

The Junior Ladies FS is due to start at 09:00:00 CEST (07:00:00 GMT / 08:00:00 BST / 10:00:00 EEST / 10:00:00 MSK / 11:00:00 GST). So 3 hours from now.

Stefania will be the 30th and final skater to start. So sixth and final skater to go in Group 5.

The Group 5 Warm-Up is due to start at 12:23:00 CEST (10:23:00 GMT / 11:23:00 BST / 13:23:00 EEST / 13:23:00 MSK / 14:23:00 GST). So 6h 23m from now.

Stefania is due to start at 13:01:10 CEST (11:01:10 GMT / 12:01:10 BST / 14:01:10 EEST / 14:01:10 MSK / 15:01:10 GST). So 7h 1m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.

Triglav Trophy Junior Ladies: Results

Stefania finished 2nd out of 24 in the FS, with a score of 100.25. This meant that she remained in 1st position overall, with a score of 157.51.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Triglav Trophy, as there was Formula 1, MotoGP and World Superbikes all on this weekend.

That said, the stars did align so that I was able to watch the livescoring page when it was Steffania's turn to skate. Here is what I wrote in the competition thread when the scores came through (it was directly after my comment about the SP):

:cheer: SHE DID!!! STEFANIA WON!!!!!! :cheer:

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

The podium ceremony for the Supersport 300 race had just finished, so I popped over to check the live scoring for the Junior Ladies, and found that Stefania was doing her programme.

So I waited for the page to update, with fingers crossed on both hands, and at the same time the hands together in a praying position. 🤞

Exactly the same scenario as with Marilena last week. Stefania won the Short and was 2nd in the Free, which was enough to win the overall title. 🥇

So, both of my favourite skaters win on consecutive weeks.

:cheer: WELL DONE STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

Looking at the Protocols, it was not a perfect skate by any means. That said, she had a very strong start.

The first element, the Triple Flip-Double Axel-Double Axel done in sequence not only had the highest Base Value of the programme, at 11.90; but also the highest GOE, at +1.24. It also had the best Judges marks of the programme, with +1 from Judge 1; +2 from two Judges; and +3 from two Judges. The second element, the Triple Lutz-Double Toe, had the second highest Base Value of the programme, at 7.20; and the fourth highest GOE, at +0.59. For Judges marks, it got 0 from Judge 1; +1 from three Judges; and +2 from Judge 5.

But then it fell apart in the next two elements. The Triple Lutz was landed on the quarter, getting the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.97; as well as Judges marks of two -4's; and three -3's. The Triple Loop that followed was under-rotated, and then she fell. It got the second biggest GOE hit of the prgramme, at -1.96; and -5 from all five Judges.

She recovered in the next three elements. But then the last two individual jumps in the programme didn't go too well. The Triple Toe was under-rotated, and got GOE of -0.34; along with -2 from Judge 1; and -1 from the remaining four Judges. Then she fell on the Double Salchow, which got the third biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.65; and -5 from all five Judges.

Thankfully, she finished the programme on a positive note with two spins that had positive GOE. The Judges marks were nearly all 0 or +1, although the Flying Change Foot Combination Spin that ended the programme got -1 from Judge 1 and +2 from Judge 2.

It is worth noting that although Stefania's FS programme had the highest Base Value of the entire field, it was not by much - it was only 0.51 points higher than the FS winner's programme. Indeed, everything between the two programmes was very close. Minighini's TES was only 0.83 points higher than Stefania's TES; and Minighini's PCS was only 1.32 points higher than Stefania's. All of which meant that although Minighini won the FS, it was not enough to overtake Stefania in the overall standings.

Stefania finished the Free Skate 3.15 points behind 1st position, Chiara MINIGHINI (ITA), and 3.35 points ahead of 3rd position, Hannah FRANK (AUT).

Overall, Stefania finished 1.15 points ahead of 2nd position, Minighini, and 7.78 points ahead of 3rd position, Frank.

To say I am delighted would be an understatement. Stefania and Marilena have had a rollercoaster ride the past couple of seasons with their injury issues, and now they both win international competitions within days of each other.

And now I can't wait for Nationals, to find out what happens when they go up against each other for the first time. (I am assuming Stefania will be making her Senior debut at Nationals). Going in having each won a Gold Medal on the international circuit in the past few days will give both of them confidence, which will make for a very exciting battle.

:cheer: WELL DONE STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

The day we have all been waiting for has arrived. Stefania is kicking off her season at the Robin Cousins Cup in Sheffield, England

Not only is this Stefania's debut at Senior level, but it is the first head-to-head between her and former house-mate Marilena.

The Senior Ladies SP is due to start today at 15:11:00 BST (14:11:00 GMT / 17:11:00 EEST / 17:11:00 MSK / 18:11:00 GST). So 9 hours from now.

Stefania will be the 10th and penultimate skater to start. So, fifth and penultimate skater to go in Group 2.

And that is as much as I can tell you, as there are no Time Schedule PDF's for this event.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.

Stefania finished 2nd out of 11 in the SP, with a score of 58.28.

Here is what I wrote about the Warm-Up in the competition thread:

Here is what I wrote when she was being introduced:

And here is what I wrote about her programme:

I am not ashamed to admit, I was feeling quite emotional after Stefania's scores came through. To the extent that I couldn't concentrate on the final skater, and had to watch her again during the resurfacing to find out what had happened. I was just so proud of my baby girl.

In my report about the Triglav Trophy SP at the end of last season, I said "Looking at the Protocols, Stefania had no issues whatsoever. There was only one negative number on the whole table". Well, this time it was even better. No negative numbers at all, and only two neutral Judges marks. Indeed, nearly all the Judges marks were +1's and +2's. But she also got two +3's, both of which were for the Step Sequence.

Stefania is currently 1.34 points behind 1st position, Sarina JOOS (ITA), and 8.07 points ahead of 3rd position, Michelle LEE (USA).

Seeing Stefania so close to the leader after the SP, and guaranteed a podium finish, I am even more heartbroken now that my plans to attend didn't work out.

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but it is very possible that Stefania could win her debut competition at Senior level. It's definitely a two horse race between her and the older of the Joos sisters.

Oh, I hope my baby girl has a great Free Skate and can do this!

:cheer: WELL DONE STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

The Senior Ladies FS is due to start today at 14:59:00 BST (13:59:00 GMT / 16:59:00 EEST / 16:59:00 MSK / 17:59:00 GST). So 8 hours from now.

Stefania will be the 10th and penultimate skater to start. So, fifth and penultimate skater to go in Group 2.

Stefania finished 2nd out of 12 in the FS, with a score of 119.71. This meant that she remained in 2nd position overall, with a score of 177.99.

Here is what I wrote about the Warm-Up in the competition thread:

Here is what I wrote when she was being introduced:

And here is what I wrote about her programme:

Before I go on, I should explain something. There were problems getting the music to play for the first skater to go in Group 2, Alex EVANS (USA). And it resulted in a big long delay before she finally got doing her programme. And, consequently, everybody after her had longer to wait between doing the Warm-Up and doing their programme. But by the time it was Stefania's turn, the extended wait wasn't having an effect any more.

Looking at the Protocols, it was fautless. Not a single negative number to be seen. And not even any neutral GOE's - every single GOE was positive. The GOE ranged from +0.14 for the seventh element, the Triple Salchow, to +1.06 for the opening element, the Triple Flip-Double Axel-Double Axel done in sequence. As well as having the highest GOE, this element also had by miles the highest Base Value of the programme, making it the highest scoring element of the programme. It also got +2 from all the Judges.

Speaking of Judges marks, the vast majority were +1 or +2. As well as these, there were five 0's, and two +3's. The two +3's were for the penultimate element, the Step Sequence, which also got +1 from Judge 1; and +2 from two Judges.

Stefania finished the Free Skate 7.66 points behind 1st position, Sarina JOOS (ITA), and 26.24 points ahead of 3rd position, Alex EVANS (USA).

Overall, Stefania finished 9.00 points behind of 1st position, Joos, and 41.16 points ahead of 3rd position, Evans.

And at her first attempt, Stefania has achieved the minimums for all the Senior Majors in one fell swoop.

What can I say?! My baby girl took the competition by storm!

You know, when it was announced that the minimum age for Seniors was being raised, I felt so frustrated that it was going to hold Stefania back. But, I think Stefania is an example of a skater that the age change has worked for.

Stefania has had a torrid time the past couple of seasons. She was having to deal with recovering from her injury and with going through puberty at the same time. Imagine if she had moved up to Seniors just before all this happened. It would have added so much pressure onto her. The struggles would have been even more demoralising for her as an inexperienced skater at Senior level than they were as an experienced skater at Junior level.

But, she has fought back, and is now skating the best she has ever been.

And I am so proud of her.

:cheer: WELL DONE STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

We have good news, and bad news.

The bad news is that Stefania has withdrawn from the Kinoshita Group Cup later this week. Which means that we will have to wait a bit longer for her to make her Challenger Event debut.

The good news is the reason. Stefania is now being sent to the Olympic Qualifying Event in Beijing two weeks later to try to earn Cyprus a Ladies slot at the 2026 Olympics in Assago.

For those that have been following Stefania's progress lately, this comes as no surprise. Stefania has been on a great run of form recently, and finished significantly ahead of Marilena when they came up against each other directly for the first time at the Robin Cousins Cup.

The priority at the moment is to claim the slot. And right now, Stefania is the more likely of the two skaters to do that.

After how much she enjoyed her time in Osaka two years ago for a Junior Grand Prix, I'm sure Stefania was looking forward to returning to the same arena for her first Challenger Event. But, after doing the Robin Cousins Cup last week, it would have been 3 competitions in 5 weeks. That's too many competitions in too short a space of time. She needs to be fresh for Beijing.

Oh, I hope she has a great time in Beijing!

On the eve of Stefania doing her SP at the Olympic Qualifying Event in Beijing, I wanted to take the opportunity of sharing a couple of things that other members have found recently.

A week or so ago, @Jumping_Bean found a couple of posts on Weibo with Bio cards for the skaters taking part, and posted the links in the Pre-Game thread. Unfortunately, you can't link directly to the individual cards, so I am instead attaching Stefania's to this post:

006p758bly1i5ayxxiyvsj31jk1xgqv6-jpg.9858

And last night, @ladyjane very kindly posted in the Cyprus thread about an interview that Stefania did with Anything GOE's:

https://anythinggoe.com/stefania-yakovlevas-silver-start/

I love my baby girl!!!

And I see that the article confirmed something for me that I had long suspected. I was nearly sure that that was Stefania's mother with her in Sheffield, but I didn't want to commit on here. You see, I had seen that lady before in a team photo from the 2024 Youth Olympics (which Stefania was not able to actually compete in due to injury, but attended anyway since everything was already arranged). My first thought when I saw her back then was that this has to be Stefania's mother, because you could see there was a likeness between them. But, then the doubts started creeping in.

It was lovely to hear Stefania's views on what happened in Sheffield. It really was an amazing result. You could tell by her reaction when the scores were announced after the FS that she didn't expect it at all. So, it was nice to hear her actually say so.

I didn't realise that she had started skating due to health issues. I hope that whatever the reason was is no longer a problem. And I want to extend my haeartfelt thanks to that doctor that advised her to try skating. Your advice has made not just a young girl happy, but a lot of other people as well. Not least myself.

I bet that doctor never imagined that all those years later, that little girl would be going to Beijing to try to qualify for the Olympics. Or that she would have a good chance of doing so!
