^ Sota is doing his best to increase his tech to match the often younger quadsters to stay relevant, is hopefully rebounding after a couple of years of struggles in terms of coaching and I suspect also mental and health issues, and unlike all other top (and sometimes much lower-ranked) Japanese men, no show deigned to invite him this summer so he hasn't had it easy financially. I'm sure he'd be working with world class choreographers if he could, and would have had his quads stabilized enough by now to pay attention to developing his choreo more if not for the various setbacks he's had to overcome. It's not like he's been gifted any PCS or GOE to save his score when his tech isn't working out. No surprise he's choosing to focus on TES in competition.

Whatever.

Well done to Sota, and I look forward to watching everyone's programs.

Well I think the music choice is maybe not helping.. perhaps something more "creative" could go very well with the increased TES? You know him better, is there (FS) music you'd wish for him to skate to? :D

I just opened both scoring pages. As the numbers pop out (without translation), I compared them a bit.
The boys are closer together (40+ to 66+ with the leader the exepction , 73+).
The women range from 36+ to 66+, leader 69+.
So the best junior man would have won the SP at the senior womens competition. -> :jaw:?
And not really close! Is that ususal these (TES focused) days? :scratch2:

I mean, most of the junior men are doing a 3A and 3-3 combo, whereas the women only have a 2A and the top-most skaters are doing a 3-3. Plus, the men's PCS is factored to max out at 50 and the women max out at 40, so the scores are going to be less

Ibuki Ogahara drilling that 3Lo during 6min warmup. He really wants that jump~

Ritsu Ikeda's jumps are easy and pretty. He's like a chill Seigo Tauchi

Yusei Yoshioka seriously needs a different choreographer

Need to check if Kazuna Sato is still competing Novice A this season (edit: nope, debuting as Junior)
He's a nice jumper too

Thanks for providing updates! Hopefully, Nana Araki redeems herself tonight after that dreadful short program.

Edit: she did even worse 😭; I guess this won’t be a good year for Nana.

Waiting for the third group to start soon. I hope Rion does good.

Thanks heaps for all the updates and videos @tsuyoboogie 🥰

I managed to get JSports stream working now so I'm watching the senior women FS live 😆

Does anyone know why Rino withdrew btw? I hope she's alright 😢

That is stingy for Mana... interesting that her new coaches aren't having her go for the 3A but it's a good strategy. Her other triples weren't that consistent last year, and they seem a lot better now.

Wasn't recording for Ayumi, Yuhana, Miyabi and Rinka :palmf:
I'll get their performances after the episode is archived
Fortunately, I got Mana and Mai

I'll start posting video of the the Jr Men while working on the girls I have

Gensan Summer Cup Day 4, video

Junior Men FS
1st Nozomu Yoshioka 131.0 5 /197.73
2nd Shunsuke Nakamura121.05 / 194.94
3rd Haru Kakiuchi 122.68 / 183.47

4th Seigo Tauchi 116.95 / 177.71
That "hand shaking" thingy he does before jumping is new
Also, that really tight, rushed Axel entry
Likely nervous habits he picked up while trying to stabilize his jumps after a growth spurt
Hoping these quirks will resolve or subside as he regains confidence

5th Haruya Sasaki 122.89 / 173.71
6th Rio Nakata 113.58 / 166.59

Senior Women FS
1st Mai Mihara 138.45 / 207.61
2nd Mana Kawabe 113.09 / 179.67
3rd Rion Sumiyoshi 121.04 / 176.29
4th Yuhana Yokoi 113.89 / 170.96
5th Miyabi Oba 109.31 / 166.69

6th Ayumi Kagotani 107.87 / 164.61
She kept this FS from last season but updated the jump layout
Her skating can definitely use some polish but this program features some really interesting elements; 3F2Lo2T, 2A2Lo+SEQ,
backward arabesque spiral, and she spins both ways during her CCoSP
Ernest Martinez, who performed with Mao Asada's Thanks Tour did the choreo

7th Chiyono Nagami 102.05 / 157.16
8th Kinayu Yokoi 102.39 / 156.54
9th Mako Yamashita 103.3 / 155.16

Going to have a nap before work
Video of Mai, Mana and Rion's performances processing
If they're available before I leave (in less than 2 hours) I'll post links

Thank you to everyone thanking me:thank: 😁

Thanks heaps for all the updates and videos @tsuyoboogie 🥰

I managed to get JSports stream working now so I'm watching the senior women FS live 😆

Does anyone know why Rino withdrew btw? I hope she's alright 😢
It's my pleasure 😊
Glad you got your stream working
Watching in real time is always more exciting (and usually better quality than the video I'm able to put out)

Sorry, haven't heard any news about Rino's WD yet
I hope she's doing okay too 🙏

Thank you so much @tsuyoboogie for all the links! I hope you have a wonderful time at Skate Canada 🥰

About the Men event, I think both Kao and Kazuki have a strong set of programmes this year, they are just out of shape for different reasons - Kao has been sick and Kazuki has been very busy with shows.

Sota totally deserved the 🍖 prize this time as he was way more prepared for the rest of the field, despite the mistakes in the free his jumps were very sharp. I do agree with some commenters that his free feels empty and the music cut feels a bit flat (lovely step and choreo sequences though), but as surimi says it's a strategy and it's clearly paying off so far. I reckon his biggest challenge will be to ensure he doesn't peak too early in the season:pray:
