Mexican figure skater Donovan Carrillo spoke about working with Russian coaches Sergei Dudakov and Daniil Gleichengauz.
Today he took 19th place in the short program at the Beijing Olympics.
– I worked at seminars with Sergey and Daniil when they came to Mexico. I learned a lot, and their training system is excellent, they are one of the best coaches in the world. It's always cool to learn from someone you admire.
What's the secret? There is no secret. They make you work. That's why their girls and guys are some of the best in the world. They do not take time for a break, for rest - you have to work every minute on the ice. I was very exhausted. It's not tough, no. If you want, you do. They don't force you. But they make you work.
– What have you learned?
“They focused on the ability to jump when tired. Because every skater can jump when he is fresh, and with them you can learn how to jump when tired. When you flip can't even jump, haha. It was a challenge and fun at the same time.
Would I like to go to Moscow to Tutberidze's school? Certainly! I hope I have time. The technique suits me, I did it the way Sergey and Daniil wanted, I felt comfortable in their system.
And I admire the Tutberidze girls. They are the best in the world. If I have the opportunity to train with them, it will be very inspiring. I even spoke with Sasha Trusova in the Olympic Village. She didn’t give advice on quads, but she’s very nice,” Carrillo said.
