Transitioning from hockey

I played scrimmage hockey and have skated recreationally for 20 years. The biggest error I made was not starting out in figure skates. I was told by a pro if I was a figure skater I would do pretty well.

I am not transitioning to do "pretty well". I would like to transition as I had an accident and part of the push and balance of my right leg have been compromised. I can still hockey skate, but don't have the stamina nor the overall push to keep going on the ice.

I am not saying transitioning to figure skating will be easy as I am no fool. I do know that figure skates on the whole offer better balance than the blades of a hockey skate.

I am looking at Jackson Artiste as a beginning skate and want to try and be sure that it fits my body profile.

My stat's. 6 ft 2 inches my weight 225. Thank you for any advice you can offer. Greg

Hi and welcome! Jackson Artiste will not be stiff enough for you at 6'2" and 225. Artiste is rated 25 stiffness and would support a child less than 40 or so pounds.
You'd need separate boots and blades at the stiffness rating/level you would need. Jackson Premiere Fusion might work but I'd say you'd need a Supreme or Synergy Pro. And then you'd need a blade (we can go into that later)
That is, if your foot type works with Jackson in the first place.

What is your foot type? That and knowing about your arches...high/normal/low/flat? Will help me to determine what brand to suggest.

My foot type is Greek (D or M). My arch is high. I wear orthotics in my hockey skates to compensate for pronation. Thank you for responding and your support. Greg

If you have a Greek shaped foot you could wear Jackson, but you could also wear Risport or Graf.

In Graf you could probably get away with wearing a Richmond Special (they'd be black of course), or Edmonton V-Insert boot.

As far as blades to go with it, you could use a traditional style intermediate level blade: Either MK Pro or John Wilson Coronation Ace.

Good luck and if you have anymore questions feel free to ask!

ETA: Just wanted to let you know that figure skates feel very different than hockey skates and it will take you a bit to get used to the blades and having the toe picks on the front.
