Vanessa James & Morgan Cipres

French TV segment about the World championships

Morgan revealed that they almost did not go to World because of his injury and the short training but they are glad they did.

Translation.

Morgan Ciprès: It's happiness. It's a dream. Like I said, I didn't think I could get a World medal this season. We thought about the Olympic Games, we thought especially about Europeans. We didn't get anything at Europeans. We don't care today. We got a World medal. It's been eighteen years since it happened in France, for France for pairs. It's all happiness. We fought. It was really hard last week. We almost didn't come here. It's a dream today. We are happy.

Vanessa James and Morgan Ciprès explain their [Morgan's] Kiss & Cry moment.

All these pictures of Vanessa kinda crying and Morgan with the French flag. I'm so happy

I've been lurking for weeks and just joined today, so I can't post any links yet. But I found (on Twitter) a series of stills of Morgan at the Medal Ceremony, had his back turned to the photogs and was crying, Vanessa tried to help him and he eventually turned back around, bent over grabbing his knees, then straightened up and held Vanessa. I teared up because I can only imagine just how emotional this moment was for him and Vanessa. As soon as I'm permitted I'll share links to the photos.

Ooh look forward to those!

Tonight I watched a French TV News interview with Vanessa and Morgan. Below is my amateur translation - sorry French is not my first language.

Journalist: Will you skate for another season?
Morgan trying to avoid the question talks about his neck injury and how they almost withdrew from Worlds because it.
Vanessa answers the question "in all honesty, we'll make (it may have been -the Team will make) an overall assessment of our achievements, have holidays and then we'll see!
Morgan chimes back in and says "we'll take some holidays first" looks at Vanessa and grins.
Then the interview shows more video of their FS to Sound of Silence, and goes to back the news.

I know this is a "Vanessa and Morgan" thread but in another segment on how great France did at Worlds 2018, they interviewed P/C "we'll do ice shows across the world so there won't only be Team France ice show tour... and they will be back for Beijing 2022 Olympics"

I'm hoping :fingers-crossed: that Vanessa and Morgan joins P/C on those worldwide ice shows...

In an American TV interview right before the Olympics, Vanessa said she thought it was "worth at least one more year" for them to skate. But who knows if things have changed since they have medaled at Worlds. I really hope they continue!!

Ooh was that a new EX? loved it!
Heard they're staying for the new season :hap10:
When does it start??

Revealing article about Morgan and Vanessa's relationship on the ice. Will translate when I get the chance.

Olympic Games 2018 - Figure Skating: Vanessa James and Morgan Ciprès, the French pair could create an upset

Olympic Games - The pair is brilliantly placed in the mix to win a medal in figure skating, this Wednesday February 14th in Pyeongchang. Vanessa James and Morgan Ciprès will perform the free program, this Thursday. Who are those two "Frenchies" figure skating stars?

Febuary 14th 2018 4:36 am - Editorial Staff of LCI

They were at the brink of quitting in 2016, but they decided to carry on and now dream of Olympic medals. Vanessa James and Morgan Ciprès were not far from dejection. At the end of the winter in 2016, James (30 years old) and Ciprès (26 years old), partner on the ice since 2010, were on the same wavelength. Like three years earlier, they finished just off the podium at the European Championships. Barely better than in 2014 and 2015, two instances were they ended up in fifth place. They became fed up.

"We received an email about the results of our season and the goals for the next, and it was exactly the same thing", recounted Vanessa to AFP [Agence France-Presse, the French press]. I told myself: "It's not possible. If it's for being fourth, fifth or eighth, it's for nothing, our lives are the same if we quit because there are no rewards."
"I told Vanessa: "It does not interest me anymore, I do not skate to be fourth". It's too much sacrifice, too many hours training, physical pain too... The enjoyment, we have it when we succeed, but for everything to go well, there is also a lot of suffering" clarifies Morgan Ciprès.

In a last-ditch effort, they decide to move abroad to Florida to join the 2002 World bronze medal winner, John Zimmerman. The latter tells them that they will both be his "priority." A speech that our French skaters liked. Under the Florida sun, the pair works with a team dedicated to them: three coaches, Jeremy Barrett and Silvia Fontana in addition of Zimmerman, a choreographer [John Kerr] and a sport psychologist for her.

The real change came from correcting the pairs' relationship. The first task of their new coach became a priority. Between the fierce competitor and perfectionist [Morgan] and the oversensitive lacking confidence [Vanessa], things were far from being easy. "Morgan put a lot of pressure on everybody, also on himself. He wants everything immediately and he wants everything to be perfect, so he wasn't so nice when I would mess up sometimes," explains Vanessa James to AFP. This coaching change seems to be beneficial: "Little by little, we corrected the way we worked, the way we talked. Morgan understood that I needed support. Our relationship is stronger", she adds.

Turned out very well for them, since last year, it was fortuitous. They won their first international medal, a bronze at the European Championships, and placed on the podium at two Grand Prix (3rd in Canada and 2nd at Grenoble). Something to give them wings on the ice of Gangneung with dream of medals more realistic than ever. However, they need to fight hard and be perfect to climb on the podium. Between the Canadians and the Russians, the competition is very dense. But they say it themselves: "Everything is up for grabs". "We can beat teams when they commit some errors, but we also can beat them when they skate cleanly," Vanessa assesses. Verdict, tonight, at 2:30 am during their free program.

Vanessa, Morgan, Gabriella and Guillaume will appear in "Quotidien", one of France's best show ! Tonight at 7:20 p.m. French time ! :agree:

Thank you! It's strange that I can't watch it "En direct" [Live] because of where I am located. But I can watch the episode from Tuesday today. No geographic restriction. Hopefully, it's going to work tomorrow.

Vanessa James and Morgan Ciprès interviewed by the one and only Nelson Monfort where Morgan confirms: "At least one more year."

Nelson Monfort: What a pleasure, before we conclude this broadcast by welcoming the very happy Bronze medal winners in pairs, Vanessa James and Morgan Ciprès. We have the feeling two days later, you're still floating because you're so happy.

Vanessa James: Yes, it's true we are very happy. And we don't realize that we have succeeded in winning this beautiful medal. It's going to take a little while to sink in. But it's a nice feeling.

Nelson Monfort: It's true that you yearned for one, for a long time. But it was the right moment, the right time, and I would add the right place at these World Championships, more popular than ever.

Morgan Ciprès: It's really a little dream that we achieved this week. We are really happy. It's the best moment of our career. When we think about it, our best placement was eighth at the World Championships. Today, we are World medal winners. It's a dream, we are happy.

Nelson Monfort: It was. While we see some footage of your performance, it was also an incredible fight against notably your friends Savchenko-Massot. They won the Gold medal. The competition was very tight [Nelson Monfort tends to exaggerate for the benefit of French athletes]. The sport is for this sort of confrontation.

Vanessa James: Yes, it's true. It was an amazing competition like the Olympic Games. We are very proud of Aliona and Bruno too, especially after a great performance at the Olympic Games. It wasn't easy for them with being tired. And for us too, despite Morgan being a little bit injured, we fought really hard. Even after the salchow too, we are really proud of that.

Nelson Monfort: We are really proud of you. A great satisfaction among our viewers, you can be sure of that. I can't wait to ask the last question: what are your future plans, Morgan?

Morgan Ciprès: First thing, a little bit of rest. Because we really need to rest after this Olympic season, which was very long and very intense. Then we are going to ask ourselves some little questions for down the road. Think about what we want, what our bodies can do. And then, let's face it, I think we're going to skate for at least one more year. And I want to add that we are going on tour with the French National team. In one week, it's going to start. So if you want to see all of the French National team, come.

Nelson Monfort: Rest assured, we will give them the dates. We'll give them the dates tomorrow, because you'll be back here, naturally, for this closing Exhibition Gala, which promises to be great. It's going to be tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 pm on France 3. Thank you Vanessa, thank you Morgan, for joining us. You are the pride of French figure skating. We'll see you again tomorrow. Goodnight everybody.
