Neither do I. But I'm not going to throw a tantrum, I already did that during the twizzle from h*ll at nationals. Took me awhile to get over that one :laugh:

Yeah, he knows. He did "okay" in the sense that the wobble didn't escalate into something worse and in the grand scheme of "Nikita's drunk twizzling history" it was a minor blip and didn't interrupt the flow of the program or do any major harm to their tech score. I also think that since it's becoming more and more obvious that this is something where he has ingrained wrong technique that he learned as a child, it sort of speaks to the fact that it's not lack of concentration or lack of work or lack of trying. If something's wonky, it's only ever the twizzles. They've been pretty consistent this season on everything else. And even with the twizzles it only turned into a major mistake at Nats. Hopefully there is a way to stabilize the twizzles for next season and their team find a way to do it. I don't know if a general overhaul should be attempted at his age or they might just try to make the ones he has now less scary, if possible. It's kinda like with Mao Asada and her wrong edge take-offs, even with the general tech overhaul she did (that took her forever), she still doesn't always do it correctly now. Or perhaps we as a fandom just have to accept that this particular element will always be a bit on the "say a prayer and hope for the best" side. :biggrin:

They and Marina talked about not skating the FD "full out" like they're capable of in interviews, but that's okay with me in their first Euros outing. Getting through it without major trainwrecks was a priority. Had they gone full risk and tried to attack it, they wouldn't have gotten bronze anyway IMO, and the possibilty of it all going horribly wrong would have been too big. So they skated well and posted a good score. 68 for the SD and 104 for the FD are strong numbers.

This is very, very difficult and if ever, something they may try way later in their career when they've got the maturity for it. Nick says that indeed he feels they have their own style but a lot of work & diff programms to widen the repertoir
He's happy that they have diff styles of SD & FD
They're looking forward to hip hop next year:laugh:
There should be harmnony between emotins on the ice, good tech & phisical abilities, power of skating
They really pay a lot of attn to phisical training, endurance
He thinks that the changes amde them look better but they had to improve programm in the span of 2 weekd before Euros. Will be even better at Worlds
They admire P/C but itys important to get that every couple has its own way
They do like B/S Their FD is polished & powerful. He prefers it to their SP b/c of the weird music cut.
The atmosphere with the rivals is laid back. They push each other for the better & not only SinKats & B/S but otehr strong guy partners like Cizeron, Tkachenko & Bukin.
As for copying they say they truy to see all the other pairs but copying lifts or stsq is a no no. Its for the lazy ones. Modifying something form the past is another thing. It becomes yours. Its not blind copying
They try to take from V/M & D/V, Nathalie & fabian, Sara & Adria.
US training its diff. Academy when you learn constantly & there's a stricks schedule. Marina is a wise woman. Vika lives with a lady coach from their Canton rink. Cooks herself but nothing difficult. Nick lives near Vika in a little 2 room apartment. Misses his mom's cooking. can cook a steak himself. his mom taught him over the phone to cook.:laugh:
They talk a bit about Semen Elistratov (short track). recalls the time he was trainign with Elena & short track ppl. He has huge admiration for them.
In Detroit they dont feel like in a training camp. They talk again about being friends with Ilia T.
They were at the Detroit car race & hockey game.
They like to go to the sauna. The best think they learned is discipline. Dont eat fastfood.
They dont mind the difference betw US & Euro rinks but they do have the preference of the Euro rink in the FS b/c they feel the freedom.
They dont have non skating friends. Home & ice, ice & home basically.
 
It's a great interview! Interesting to hear their take on their competitors, constructive and positive. Agree with Nikita about the weird music cut in B/S' SD, it's really jarring. I think being in Detroit has a few positive aspects for them: They're away from the Russian tabloid press and their nonsense. And though they're away from friends and family at home and that must be tough, they're also learning to live independently and they can focus on training without distractions. Had to crack up at that hip hop mention, I'm sure many of the dancers are interested in that option since it's probably closer to music they listen to in their private time than the usual classical heavy hitters. Nikita has a certain sharpness and edge to his performing style, I could see him pulling it off. Not so sure about Viktoria... Though at this point I trust Marina to help them make a good decision there, and only attempt risky things like that if she feels they can handle it.

And I gotta say, Nikita reads like a hoot, even in the translations. His riff on his bad cooking or when he told the story about his failed attempt at Zen Buddhism in some earlier interview, he seems pretty witty.
