Victoria Sinitsina & Nikita Katsalapov

It was obvious to me last night that Nikita is so much happier competing with Victoria. Which probably means that he also enjoys training with her as well. I would have had them in 8th place over Gilles and Poirier.

I greatly enjoyed watching this team - I am looking forward to watching them next season and improving their levels (and yes, Nikita, those twizzles too). If they keep working hard and compete well, I can't see them not moving up. But it wouldn't surprise me if there was a lot of shuffling next season in ice dance, anyway.

Don't be sad. :console: Their coaching team is highly professional, and with their help, Vika and Nikita will surely be strengthened and move up next season. You know, my prediction is right most of the time. Their spins were rated only 2nd level in the FD so that they lost some precious technical merits.
Im mostly sad b/c I thought their actual dances werent bad at all!
& IZ fans are probably gloating now & may have Shpilband bonus next year:(

anyway they're still supermodels :agree::luv17:

Why should IZ fans be gloating now? Nikita didn't fall on his twizzles in both SD and FD at Worlds and he looks much happier than before after partnering Vika, and those fans must be scowling at them secretly with green eyes. Zueva has cultivated two pairs of Olympic Champions so far, so Nikita and Vika should have nothing to fear now.

There is no need for either of you to insult other teams or fans of other teams in this thread. Grow up.

Well, they'll need to analyze this season and work out what needs to be done going forward. All in all, this season was a success. They improved a lot from last year. They got two GP medals. They got Nats silver. They skated well at both Euros and Worlds on the whole IMO and didn't implode (which wasn't a given, taking Nikita's comp history into account...).

The things that are still problematic need to be the next projects. I don't know if there's a way to stabilize those twizzles, but they need to try and make them as secure as possible. That Nikita is throwing himself into things makes him an interesting performer and exciting to watch, but don't let it spill over into messiness. The TES needs to rise further. They need to get more precise. He can't succumb to wildness and imprecision, and there's constant talk that Vika doesn't hit edges in step sequences and/or key points in the SD patterns. If Cappellini and Chock can do it, then Vika needs to figure it out as well. Same with performance range, I feel this year's programs were at least partly so safe to accomodate her limitations on that front. She needs to expand from princess stuff and fluffy romance stuff.

Which brings us to the programs: I think that the programs didn't look so shiny anymore by Worlds was expected. They're conservative programs that allowed them to gain ground as a dance pair, but they're not interesting enough to stay fresh for six months. So by Worlds it became more obvious that other pairs had more interesting choreography. That's what they need to do now that the foundation is laid, find something that suits them but which also challenges them and will allow them to grow as skaters and performers.

SinKats fans, do not be down! 9th is a very respectable placement for a first appearance at Worlds and their scores were great, it's just that the field was soooo DEEP. In other years, they would have placed much higher.

I must say that I really enjoyed seeing these two in person. They have great speed and when the twizzles aren't messed up, it actually looks really nice and there's decent ice coverage. I also think Vika has worked really hard to improve. Considering that they didn't even get out of Russia last year, a siliver medal at Russian nationals, a top 10 appearance in the World Championships and some GP medals is really good indeed.

Onward to next season!

Thank you everyone for the videos and photos! Here's some more recent photos:

One thing that's come up in recent interviews and in that doc as well...I do wish Marina would get over her idea that she needs to build everyone and their grandmother in the image of Gordeeva/Grinkov. It somewhat detracted from V/M for me and I hope she doesn't push S/K hard in that direction either. Take a bit of inspiration, sure, there's no way we're getting out of "young love" programs anyway , and I don't much mind, but hopefully not massive music recycling and going overboard on that front.

Any music ideas for next season? I always wanted someone to do "Four Last Songs" by Richard Strauss, you wouldn't have to go the super hardcore dramatic route and focus only on the morbid aspects of the songs. The orchestration is gentle and lovely:

What about Midsummer Night's Dream? That's light and airy.

They're back in Moscow. They did some social stuff like visiting friends, attending Righini's birthday party, Zakarian's birthday party etc. You can find those photos on their social media accounts.

Now this is where it gets more interesting, potentially...
Today they attended a performance by the Moiseyev Dance Company through an invitation from Ramil Mekhdiev (a dancer with the company). Is he in some way involved with next season's programs?

Vica and Nick are so beautiful. For me, they are perfect match. Wish them good luck in the next season.
And now can we say for sure, they are the couple off the ice? https://www.instagram.com/p/BFFM6Nptc_U/ https://www.instagram.com/p/BE_ZaKXxt7X/

As far as I know, Ramil is working as an ice dance choreographer. It could be very interesting. Some russian folk dance! We'll see...
Already can't wait to see VicNick next season!!
