But they are giving that through their test skates, aren't they? To be a national champion is one thing, to compete for a worlds title is not related to that, after all. The rules for the national tittle are just different, and people who are the most ready to compete for that title will be there.

We can agree to disagree.

What I don't like is how they are made to do the cups to qualify for nats without any exceptions being made. That's just setting yourself up for problems if exceptions need to be made.

If S/K are not prepared for the cups but are ready for Nationals, they should be given a bye. And I would do the same for anybody on the main team at least. That's my opinion.

Right and remember Stepanova/Bukin are also out and dealing with injuries. If one of S/K and S/B or worse both miss the Russian Cup then no Nationals for them that determines who goes to Euros/Worlds. Only one of them can get the "council vote spot". Russia can kiss goodbye 3 spots for the Olympics. These athletes shouldn't be force to compete TWICE at the Russian Cup Stages just to make nationals.

Also why no mention of the Rostelecom Cup as a qualifying event when usually GPs hold more weight than local competitions. Solely relying on the 2 results of the Russian Cup is just dumb.

I guess in this situation they can use the coaching council for one of them for Euros and when they place in the top 2 of 3 teams at Euros use the coaching council again for Worlds for the 2nd team? They may use the Cup final as a qualification for Worlds but how do you get there if you didn't compete in the Cups? In previous years, they could just invite you. This year, IDK.

And surely the Fed would be bummed not to get 2 medals from Euros.

So I wish both teams health and speedy recovery and if they can't compete at the Cups to get an exception to Nationals, if they are ready.

With Rostelecom, I think it has to do with the fact that there will be National judges there, so it's not exactly international, just Nationals with a few guess invites. Plus judging by what Piseev and Gorshkov said, they want to raise the level of the cups, to make them prestigious and of course sell the rights to Channel 1 and tickets to the public publicizing to us that the cups will be the most anticipated events of the season.

In previous years, the top skaters for the most part ignored the Cups and focused on their SeniorBs and GP events. Maybe they are afraid the top skaters would go that route if they added Rostelecom as a qualifier? Can't hype up interest for the cups if you don't force everyone there. They need headliners, no exceptions.

I guess we will just have to wait and see. Hopefully they can find out what's wrong with Nikita and start treatment if they haven't already done so.

I honestly have no doubt that they will make exceptions to the national team members come nationals if needed its just that the Feds will look like they are favoring skaters again when they can easily avoid that by just tweaking this dumb rule before sending it out.

Skaters Sinitsina and Katsalapov are preparing for the Russian Cup, despite the partner's injury

Earlier, athletes withdrew from the test skates of the Russian national team

European champions in ice dancing Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov are preparing to perform at the stages of the Russian Figure Skating Cup, despite their partner's health problems. This was reported to TASS by the coach of the duet, Alexander Zhulin.

The skaters withdrew from the test skates of the Russian national team, which took place on September 12-13, for medical reasons. It was noted that Katsalapov is experiencing back pain.

"Health is better, today we have already skated the rhythm dance with support, it is very joyful, because before we could not even think of supports," Zhulin said. "My back still worries, but less. We will prepare as we expected , for two stages of the Cup of Russia - the second and the third, and as soon as it goes, there is no talk of withdrawal yet."

Zhulin hopes that his players will be able to get in shape for the competition. “It's just that a back injury is such a thing that can come out at any second,” he noted. “In principle, the guys were well prepared, Nikita missed about two weeks. We hope we will be able to get some form by the Russian Cup stages.”

The specialist also clarified the nature of Katsalapov's injury. "These are established problems - he has sore ligaments, a hernia, we will fight with this," the agency's interlocutor said.

Victoria has a knee injury (right knee is taped). Just FYI. They may withdraw.

Figure skater Viktoria Sinitsina, performing in a duet with Nikita Katsalapov, may refuse to perform the free dance at the Russian Cup in Moscow. This was reported to TASS by the figure skating coach Alexander Zhulin.

"Viktoria Sinitsina skated in a rhythm dance with severe knee pain," Zhulin said.

It seems everything is alright. Maybe Zhulin exaggerated.

Victoria Sinitsina - Nikita Katsalapov: "We will catch up with time, we will catch up with the form and ourselves"

Victoria Sinitsina - Nikita Katsalapov lead after rhythm dance at the second stage of the Russian Cup - Rostelecom. After the performance, the skaters who missed the test skates, and actually went on the competitive ice for the first time this season, commented on their performance:

- My condition is normal, absolutely adequate. But, perhaps, the performance here for us is like the first skates of the national team. While we are a little late in form, - said Nikita.

“At the same time, we cannot force it, because after Nikita’s injury we need to gradually recover, do everything according to plan, do it with our heads,” added Victoria.

- I think if the season takes place, then in Sochi, in a few days, at our next start we will try to improve in comparison with what we will show at these competitions. We will train hard to catch up with time, to catch up with form and ourselves.

Due to injury, we only work in pairs for two and a half weeks. Supports began to be made two weeks ago. They seem to work out, but the problem has not gone anywhere, although I feel quite good. My back still bothers me, but I'm working on this, I'm working on this, we are all working on this,'' summed up Nikita Katsalapov.

OMG. This two injuried just after S/B?!
Hope for a good recover. Best wishes.

A board that will exclude S/B or S/K from intarnational selection because they could not compete in a local competition deserve to be fired and replaced asap.

If the guys were so injured, why drag them here? What is he talking about Sochi? Perhaps health is more important than cup events :palmf:

Figure skater Sinitsina, performing in tandem with Nikita Katsalapov , could not continue the rental of an arbitrary dance at the stage of the Russian Cup in Moscow due to pain shock, the pair's coach Alexander Zhulin told RIA Novosti .
Sinitsina and Katsalapov on Sunday withdrew from the Russian Cup stage right during the skating of a free dance. On Saturday, the couple became the best in rhythm dance.

"Of course, we will try to perform. We are not going to miss anything, if we can recover in a week, we will go to Sochi. Vika skated on injections, it was just that in the end there was a painful shock, because of this we stopped. The knee failed. Otherwise, we would have finished the program. We drove fine today," Zhulin said over the phone.

Zhulin is my least favorite person at the moment :bang:

Zhulin spoke about the details of Sinitsina's injury

Figure skater Victoria Sinitsina, paired with Nikita Katsalapov, will not go to the hospital, she has severe tendon inflammation, the couple's coach Alexander Zhulin told RIA Novosti.

The guys get two days off, now let's see how Victoria will recover. She has severe inflammation of the tendon, her leg can't even hold up. Of course, I'm very upset. You don't need to go to the hospital, you need to do procedures and injections. You need to understand how to deal with this is the most difficult thing for a coach. We will watch, "Zhulin said over the phone.

My dear ones, thank you for so many kind words!
Injuries are an integral part of an athlete's life, and we all go through it!
I want to thank you for your understanding and words of support! I will try to recover faster and we will see you again on the ice :)
Thanks to @nikita_katsalapov and the entire coaching staff for their support. @aleksandr_zhulin @petrdurnev @ionov_dmitry Sergey Petukhov.
I am very sorry that we could not show our new free dance (to the end) and I am very sorry that the pain was already intolerable. We fought and didn't get used to giving up.
