Victoria Sinitsina & Nikita Katsalapov

I must say, looking at the field in Russian ice dance now? It really drives home how rapidly S/K have improved this season. I was hoping and relatively certain that they would be better at the start of this season, but it seemed that there was no way they could come even close to I/Z and B/S. Last year the gap was so big IMO. But they're up there now, they're absolutely comparable and that is such an achievement itself! :hap10:

B/S have maturity and experience going for them, which might give them a bit of an edge, but they're not miles away (they're better in the SD than S/K, the FD isn't totally working for me, perhaps a minority opinion...). I/Z are better at some things, worse at others in comparison (I won't go into the face plant, it happens...Here I'm not convinced about the SD, the FD is interesting but if they don't hit it out of the park performance-wise it runs the risk of falling flat. I like it, though IMO it's clearly inferior to the D/S interpretation of the theme, which was a masterpiece.). S/K need to work on RW and steps in the SD, so the technique doesn't let them down there (which I'm sure they're doing). The FD is exactly right for where they are in their development now and they seem so comfortable and engaged when performing it, they clearly love it. I don't know, it just struck me how extraordinary their development has been when you compare to where they were last year. :)

I would have to agree.

  • No S/K in the GPF is a pity = need more work
  • They are used to new training environment & new group/country
  • They go step by step
  • No prblems for this team in her big group of sportsmen
  • She will attend US & Rus nats, C/L will go to Italian on their own

Good luck at Nationals! The pressure cooker situation can't be easy on any of the top teams, but it is what it is. OTOH if you want to be competitve, you need to learn how to deal with stress and with difficult circumstances. I thought CoR showed that S/K have more resilience now when it comes to these things, keeping it together in the SD even though they were so nervous was very impressive. And then they skated lights out in the FD. :luv17: I hope they kill it!

he shaved!:luv17::agree:

This was unacceptable!:eeking:

On a completely shallow note: Man, they are really, really pretty!
Zueva knew what she was talking about blue eyes & all

So they're skating 3rd. At least it's not 1st:biggrin: and B/S and I/Z are in the same group, so I don't think starting order will be a big deal. I think I've heard in one of the videos floating around that Samokhin is the TS. Does anyone know anything about him? I've read somewhere on the forum here that he's got connections to Zhulin, which would be good for B/S, I guess. But I don't know that I want to believe rumours like that anyway and that things like that strongly influence judging.

He was assistant specialist at COR, where their TES in the SD weren't great. But to be fair, they were shaky and nervous, so it's not like they were undermarked there. And they got great TES for the FD. :)

Funny thing: It`s the first time in their career as a team that they don`t have the start number 1 in the SD. :)

It doesn't really matter. Just skate cleanish and they'll make it to Euros, where the real competition for those two Worlds spots will be at.

Wow, what a great performance! :hap10: They've improved so much and they keep on improving from competition to competition, it's just stunning to watch! Congratulations on their skate here and good luck tomorrow in the FD!

Twizzles are scary. Kinda want to see the scoring sheet to see if the judges give them positive GOE for it :drama:
Still, their programs are beautiful this year. They have been doing clean FDs in competition now so hopefully they knock it out of the park this time too.
