Victoria Sinitsina & Nikita Katsalapov

Here's the British Eurosport version of their SD:

I just always really, really appreciate what they do. Particularly Nicky Slater here. He explains what makes S/K great, what their strong points are and why they score well. He's spot on about Viktoria getting the feel for the ballet theme right, about Nikita being a strong, "flamboyant" (heh!) partner, about their chemistry and how that chemistry is achieved. About their skating skills and flow over the ice. And they do this for everybody! They are constructive, they point out positive things and even when they criticize they don't tear down. It's such a breath of fresh air listening to them and such a contrast to the "all the rivals of my faves can't skate" mentality sometimes prevalent on forums.

You voiced such a spot-on point, katha!

Nikita is always a great dancer, and Vika looks much more beautiful and confident alongside him on ice.

The Russian fed account trolling : https://www.instagram.com/p/BBHsHWrCk-6/?taken-by=ruskating

I kinda love the social media team for this tbh, at this point they probably figure the people who resent S/K won't be deterred no matter what, might as well have fun with it. What would have made it perfect is if they had captioned it "Haters gonna hate". IMO that would have been a supreme final touch.

I see S/K are also fraternizing with the enemy camp (Tobias/Tkachenko). ;) Joking aside, the skaters in the various training camps around Detroit seem to be on good terms and hang out with each other, so that's nice.

And most importantly: Good luck in the FD! :cheer::cheer::cheer:

The little poodle that sometimes features in Nikita's and Vika's instagram photos, that's Tkachenko's dog.

Good job for SK, I think. They didn't medal, but their scores are at the top, with the other 3 teams. They should see this as a great success, especially in comparison to last year. BS are still BS, with the experience and the reputation and SB were not really that close. So, they are doing very well. With BS and SK, it will still be difficult at Worlds for Russia to recover the three spots, but it is not impossible I guess.

They skated last, after the reigning WC (who got big scores) and Nikita didn't collapse. I consider that an achievement in itself.

Yeah, I think we should throw a bit of a party anyway LOL! I think they did fabulous. Skating after P/C and their massive scores must have been stressful and they did good. The super audience, I'm sure, helped. Bratislava really did itself proud this week, I think. That they're not quite up to the level of the top pairs, that they aren't as mature and sophisticated yet, all of that is quite understandable after skating together for such a short time. But they're close and you saw that as well. They wildly outscored S/B and got a personal best for both SD and FD. IMO S/K were roughly at the level of the other three pairs or at least quite close, while S/B looked like they belonged more to the group before them.

Massive achievement and incredible progress from last year. Also, as adelia said, the pressure here was immense and they didn't collapse, they put in two strong performances in their biggest competition so far. They really delivered here and established themselves further IMO

haha I love ur positivity!!!!!!!!

But Im gonna throw tantrum anyway:tantrum::tantrum::tantrum:

The bottom line is dont count on a medal before competition! YOu may jinx it! I never learn

I think the bottom line is this: This comp showed that they aren't quite at the level of B/S yet. It's not a great margin, but B/S have experience and maturity that translates into their performances. IMO S/K wouldn't be able to interpret something like Anna Karenina right now, it's a bit beyond them. They close in on B/S when B/S aren't up to par (like in the SD at Nats and frankly, the SD here) and deliver a shaky skate, but if B/S perform full out, S/K can't yet quite match them. It's a work in progress, they're constantly improving. :) And tbh, I think I'm not upset because I thought 4th was the most likely result here anyway.

well to be honest I dont want such a programm for SinKats anyway:slink:
That high drama wont suit them (well maybe in 7 years )
Like I dont want them to have smth like Frida either

They're this romantic, light as a feather pair, thats why their FD & SD worked so well this year
Both are rather sunny, pop'py & accessible
Yes boring for some viewers who like high art, P/C, or high drama but I like when I can have a rest watching FS from time to time & SinKats provide this tenfold:agree:

That said they will never get high tech marks if they never learn
Time deduction again:bang: & probable neverending twizzle problem

No, I didn't mean "programs just like Anna Karenina". I mean programs that suit them but that are more detailed and sophisticated than what they do now. The FD is great for them right now and I love it, but it's constructed to be a bit open and has a general "we're against the world romance" theme going that doesn't demand super complex and nuanced interpretation (IMO this is to accomodate Viktoria. She's much better now as a performer, but something more ambitious on that front might still be beyond her). And their tech is constantly improving, it's much better than it was last year and they've tackled the TES issues in the SD that were following them around in the GP. That everything isn't yet perfect and shiny is also quite normal. That will take long-term commitment, we're talking years here, not months.

oh yeah its totally constructed to point out their strenghts & hide flaws
But I'm happy its not super difficult b/c more often than not it means more movements per second & it gives the feeling of too much going on

Like last years blues was great but they're not able technically (that lift was sooo beautiful tho:luv17:)

& I dont have anything against romance programms:yay: they're against the world now!
Especially with Zueva I dont expect SK to solve 1st world problems anyway:laugh:
She's the queen of mushy mushy & found her perfect couple now (well she cant do it with the Shibs obv:biggrin:)

+ love is the eternal topic of art anyway. I doubt people will ever get tired of portraying it.

Good for the Fed that we have B/S. They're obviously more reliable that all the new/young pairs so it was the right decision.

They were so cute and I love them being a couple as well. They look beautiful 😍 I love their programs, too.Congrats to them ☺

They tried it last season. And failed miserably. They don't need detailed and sophisticated yet, IMO. They need simple, light and beautiful. Zoueva learned her lessons obviously, and did just what was necessary to do. Next season we'll see more complex programm, I'm ready to bet my money on it. But at this moment, they still gel with each other, they focus on elements. And in my opininon this is the most right approach for them.

Yeah, absolutely. What they have now is perfect for them at this point in time. I was basically spelling out for myself why I'm totally happy with the result: B/S have that sophistication IMO and if they perform like today they are a bit better. S/K will progress and gain strength, I'm optimistic about that as well now since IMO Zoueva and her team have now shown that they know what they are doing. And S/K have shown that they're committed and ready to put in the work to achieve their goals. Well done all around.
