Victoria Sinitsina & Nikita Katsalapov

I thought they looked good, much improved from test skates, though not yet ready for the big stage. ;) Twizzles seem more stable in general now, or am I getting delusional (watch them crash and burn in the FD now...)? Choreo is safe but suitable, them trying hip hop (Vika in particular...) would have been a cringeworthy trainwreck. Costumes are good. Scores seem "low" for such a puffer event, OTOH if there are still issues with tech I'd prefer it if they actually get real feedback and not overinflated vanity scores that only mask problems the program still has...only for those problems to then be ruthlessly exposed in bigger events.

ETA: I'm curious how Nikita will perform in the FD. He looked rough in the SD in the test skates, and has sharpened up now (still not to the point he needs to reach, but it's much, much better now). He was an unholy mess in the FD in the test skate, though, frankly speaking. So I'm half excited, half dreading how he will look there now. Hopefully miles better, the program seems to have so much potential.

Awwwww Vika is shining here! Lol + she looks like Navka )))))))
They did pretty pretty good for such low scores! Yep they will have training camp in Sochi & then will compete in Perm

Ha some ppl attribute the scores to Gurreiro's mom in the tech panel)))))

I need a video of this now! The score is pretty good, so presumably it wasn't a trainwreck and I want a decent version of that FD since it looked so promising even in its terrible form at the test skates. They need to work on those TES, I don't care if it's Guerreiro's mama on the tech panel. The ice dance world is incestuous, every tech panel will have conflict of interest and bias and since the ISU won't ever do anything about it, they just need to deal. Okay, probably not "mommy of direct rival on the panel" level of conflict of interest in bigger comps (), but it can always happen that you get a strict and nitpicky panel. And then it's about not giving them excuses to dock points and execute elements as precisely as possible. They've had problems with this from the start, it was better in their second season. Hopefully they will improve on this even more. In this sense this comp will probably be useful, since they actually got "real world" feedback on their levels etc. and not level four on everything for the heck of it.

ETA: I have been open about my fundamental critique of how technical panels are set up in ice dance in many posts and for a long time. I stand by that. What happened here IMO is a conflict of interest, there's just no way around that. I know it's a small comp and it happens all over the place in ice dance and here it doesn't really matter, but it's a grave flaw in the judging system. And I will certainly continue saying so.

I don't think it is appropriate to be casting aspersions on the credibility & impartiality of the technical panel, especially suggesting that they are keeping a team down on purpose for personal reasons, even if it is just joking... I'd also remind people that there are two members of the panel other than Jonathan's mother, and that calls require a majority decision.

Quite tentative and a bit of a mess especially on the second half of the program.
The twizzles won the battle here this time. Marina needs to skype with them to talk about that mess of a twizzle ending. LOL why put it there in the first place??

Yeah, it's taking shape now but still needs work. That whole ending still looks unfinished tbh, the last lift still feels like a place holder lift randomly plopped in there until they have time to put in something else. The program flows quite well and then that last lift has nothing to do with anything, isn't integrated at all, it' s just...there. I hope they change that (and I think they will). I'm not sure I'd even mind the rest of the ending, the awkward lift makes the rest of it look wonky, if it came out of a more coherent set-up I wouldn't even mind the little twizzles. The second step sequence is also a bit of a question mark IMO. I know it's choreographed that way, but that moment where they're going backwards looks awkward and makes it lose momentum, perhaps there's a way to make that smoother?

It's not yet ready for prime time, but I'm glad that there's a better skated version of it around now. :) It's enjoyable, even at that early stage, and the better they skate it the more impressive it will look. It's a good program for them and definitely a step in the right direction, they just need to work at it and it'll grow. On a superficial note, I'm assuming these are the costumes Nikita will be wearing? If so, I approve. It's a clean and elegant look in both SD and FD, and there's certainly no need to repeat last season's ruffled shirt nonsense. ;)

Agree with everything you wrote!!:agree:
The costumes for the FD aren`t final! They will have new ones at CoC! And they say it`s worth to wait! So I expect a cream dome!:luv17:

That dress of Vika's which she wore in the FD is two years old so I most definitely hope new ones will be made.

Many good teams are coming to the fore. Whether they can make a noise this season, we will have to wait and see.

Imo Nick won this time he seems much much better @ twizzles in general!
Maybe it's just me tho
