Vincent Zhou | Page 20 | Golden Skate

Vincent Zhou

Thanks, el henry. I knew that he would not participate in the group numbers, but was expecting a little more than just one single exhibition number. I understand about the lack of time to change choreography to add another skater and time needed for rehearsals, but was still hoping for him to interact and skate a bit more during the finale. Here are a couple pics of group bow and group lineup found on Twitter. I will post in the SOI - US thread later. I know you are a Jason fan and he was absolutely stupendous! What a star he was!

Thank you for the kind words about Jason, and for posting in the general thread.

To stay on target in a Vincent fan fest, I would have been disappointed by only one number as well. IIRC, other “guests” in SOI have skated the same as the cast members: one comp program reworked for show, and one exhibition program. I am sorry you did not get to see more of Vincent.

Thanks for understanding. I hesitated to post at the SOI thread last night because it was really hard to put into words my mixed feelings: disappointment in not seeing more of Vincent and surprised at how much I enjoyed the cast performance, even without my favorite. Since Vincent skated "Take On Me" near the beginning, I pretty much spent the rest of the show anticipating and eagerly waiting for him to come out again. You can imagine my feeling when he finally came out after the finale. I bought the ticket because of him and ended up seeing less than 5 minutes of him. Maybe disappointment is not a good word, since I was genuinely impressed and entertained by the rest of the members. I was sad that I didn't get to see more of Vincent, but still very, very grateful that he came to Phoenix and I had the chance to see him skate live. And because of him, I got to enjoy my first SOI show and had a wonderful time. :)

I saw Vincent in today’s San Jose show and he was great!! The crowd really seemed to love it. Highlight was definitely when Vincent did the cantilever RIGHT IN FRONT OF US. Everyone was screaming! A super fun program and Vincent showed great performance quality and looked like he was having a lot of fun. He also looks quite tall!

Thanks for your wonderful review of Vincent from the San Jose show. Vincent definitely had a good time, he even posted a nice group photo on his Instagram:
San Jose❤️ what an incredible crowd. On behalf of the cast, we love all of you!

BTW, when you see Vincent and Nathan side by side, Vincent is slightly taller (not taking Nathan's curly hair into account, LOL). But Nathan looks much smaller to me, especially in group numbers, while Vincent looks taller in person.

Vincent was awarded the API (Asian Pacific Islander) Heritage Award on Monday for Excellence in Sports.

Humbled to be named one of the API Heritage Award honorees by the API Legislative Caucus for excellence in sports. Thank you to all involved for a great experience!

Tweet from the 14th Annual Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Awards on the California State Assembly showing Vincent in the last photo.

Found another video clip of "Take On Me" from Anaheim show, incomplete with some talking, but up close and very clear, with good view of Vincent's cantilever.

Great feature on Vincent - and the Bay Area is very proud of him :)

Vincent looks so tall in the video of him practicing at Stars on Ice! I wonder how tall he is now ?

NBC Bay Area had a segment on Vincent:
Palo Alto Skater Vincent Zhou Already Has Sights Set On Next Olympics

"You haven't seen anything yet."
"It's just hard when you focus that much on the quads, so this season, I'm trying to make a huge change artistically." (Yay, we are behind you all the way) :yay:

OMG, Vincent addressed the issue with meeting the POTUS in this interview, and with his humor. "surprised the POTUS pronounced his name Zhou right" and "it is all about representing your country and be an proud Olympian"
Thank you Vincent for backing me up in terms of your family name "Zhou" pronunciation, is it not "joe" :sad21::biggrin:

Great job Vincent, LOVE you so much.:luv17:

a little story during M&G shared in Nathan's FF
When a Japanese fan started to sing Happy Birthday Song to Nathan, Vincent and Jason on the other table started to sing along as well,
you see they maybe rivals on ice but off-ice they are cute brothers, #bromance :luv17:

Vincent posted the following message on his Instagram:

Thank you @starsonice for the incredible experiences--even though I only got to do 6 locations, I made the most of my performances and had lots of fun spending time with my Team USA peers and engaging with the audience. Every crowd was amazing and I'm so glad I got to meet my fans at the meet & greets. I feel the love and I hope you all know I love you guys back. Your support has a special place in my heart.

Seattle show fancam of "Take On Me", 2:20 in length, clear and front row view of Vincent's jumps

Portland show video clips, with photos:
First video clip shows part of finale group skate & lineup, Vincent shown between Karen and Maia
Second clip of introductions, shows Vincent and Adam hugging together after Bradie was introduced. Aww!

SOI was over so quickly! What's next for Vincent? Is he doing any more shows this summer? I wonder if he plans to apply to college or put it all off until after 2022?

One more clip from SOI: a closeup fancam of "Take On Me" from the Seattle show on May 19th.

Vincent is probably done performing for now. He needs to take a break and rest up. Hopefully, Vincent will get invited to Japanese ice shows in the near future from the popularity of Ice Fantasia.

Tammy is relocating to Colorado Springs on June 25th so Vincent most definitely will be spending extra time with her on his new programs.

I think Tammy’s move to the Springs will balance my training and increase the amount of time I’m able to spend on my choreography and spins for a more complete program,” said Zhou.

Really looking forward to Vincent's focus on the artistic side this season with Tammy around for a more balanced training. Cannot wait to see what Lori Nichol came up with for the SP. She did a great job with Boyang's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". I hope it's a unique, suitable program that will showcase Vincent's style, with good music and sophistication that's several grades above "Chasing Cars". And Jeffrey, please do a piece to balance out the jumps throughout the choreography, with more speed and power.

As for college, the May 3rd Mercury News article mentioned the following:

Zhou plans to take online college courses “so my brain doesn’t completely turn to mush,” he said. “I’m not going disregard my studies in any way while I’m still skating. I’m just going to tone it down so I don’t die from the overload of work.”

Sounds like a very smart plan. Looking forward to Vincent's new season!

Good to hear. Vincent's such a smart young guy. He'll certainly be able to handle some online courses in addition to his skating. He joked during the Olympics that he was the disappointment of the family since his sister's at MIT. Maybe after 2022 he will be off to MIT too. :) Oh and by the way, Karen should have taken advantage of free SAT/ACT tutors, Vincent and Nathan, during the Stars on Ice tour.

NBC LA uploaded their special on the Asian American SOI members:

'Stars on Ice' Led by Team USA's Asian Americans

https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Stars-on-Ice-Team-USA-483829121.html

The short (2:53) video features Mirai, Nathan, Vincent and Karen. The SOI footage was taken at the Anaheim show. Video ends with Vincent's splits at the end of "Take On Me".

I hope Vincent realizes what a role model he is, being honored at the White House as the youngest member of Team USA Olympians, landing the first quad lutz at OWG, and for his recent API Heritage Award for Excellence in Sports.

Great that they are being spotlighted, but I hope that the skaters can be role models to all youth. Did you notice the journalist's name is also Hetty, like Nathan's mom? That's funny because I've never heard of anyone else with that name before.

Yeah, maybe he's joining TCC. XD

(I did speculate about that based on how he was invited to Ice Fantasia -- though probably just for choreo here)

LOL, I did secretly hoped that he would talk to Brian when Ice Fantasia was first announced.... Even though Vincent and Boyang and Jun are buddies (Jason included, but he's buddies with everyone), it would never work with all these contenders. TCC is simply too over-crowded. It would be nice though to get some SS lessons from Tracy. But yeah, probably for choreo. Wonder if Jeffrey is still in Japan?
