Vincent Zhou

Yeah to me that would be too weird for Vincent to give up his US citizenship to skate for China. After all, his parents presumably came to the USA to give their kids a better life.

Vincent's dancing is pretty funny and endearing. He needs to loosen up and take some dance lessons!

I think the report was that Misha got food/lunch for Jackie, because Jackie was so busy reporting. I doubt it was b/c Jackie couldn't afford lunch-- he's a highly paid consultant with a Wharton MBA, who lives in NYC and is able to pay for trips to international skating competitions, as an uber fan-blogger turned reporter. :)

Jackie earns a good income :D. He tweeted a few times that he just didn't have time to eat.
He's said that he pays for his skating trips with airmiles and hotel points from his McKinsey business trips.

Thanks for the clarification. The post/tweet I read made it sound like it's Jackie's lack of funds. That's how misinformation spreads around, just like the rumor from Han Yan's FF :ohwell: :palmf:

I can't believe how anybody would even think that's possible. Vincent has mentioned so many times how proud he is to be representing the US at the Olympics. I bet he would tear up and sing along with the National Anthem if he was on the podium.

Yes, our dear boy definitely would benefit greatly by taking dancing lessons. Maybe the Shibs can give him some tips :dance3:.

Vincent is added to Junhwan Cha's Ice Show in South Korea:

Hey, thank you so much for the exciting announcement! Here is the roughly translated webpage from Google.

Bravonneu, a sports management company, said on December 30, "Kim Jin-seo and US figure skating male singles team Vincent Zhou have decided to appear on the ice show" Artificial Intelligence LG ThinQ Ice Fantasia 2018 "on Mokdong Ice Link from April 20th.

Sounds like a really exciting line up of FS stars. "
Yevgeny Flusshenko"

Here is a picture of fresh-faced Vincent with Peanut Butter Jelly Boy at the 2016 JGP in Yokohama.

Our boys sure have grown up. So proud of them! Can't wait to see their new programs and continued progression. Way to GO, Vincent! I hope you gain lots of new Korean fans. Your poor Japanese fans are trying really hard to buy tickets to see you!

Haven't been able to find any other English information other than from the SYWTWFS site:

Plushy, Medvedeva and Alina are keeping busy!

wow, this show has an amazing cast and it is a great opportunity for Vincent!

Haha, probably will make as much money doing this show as he will on his 6 SOI shows in the US.

Count me In as another happy fan. This is a great opportunity for Vincent to spread his international appeal and improve his presentation skills. Plus earn some money for his skating expenses and family!

:agree: Vincent will get a lot more experience out of this show, skating in the big leagues with Superstars like Plushy, Tatiana & Maxim , and Aliona & Bruno :luv17:, than he would ever get from SOI. Hope the star power will rub off on him.

It's interesting to note that the first Korean article translated "Bravonneu, a sports management company, said on December 30, "Kim Jin-seo and US figure skating male singles team Vincent Zhou have decided to appear on the ice show...". I don't read Korean and didn't see any Roman numerals around 30 so it must be a mistake and is supposed to be March. The second article from Naver Sports mentioned Vincent's name in the title "Kim Jin-seo - Vincent Zhou, Cha Jun-hwan confirmed in the ice show" so they must see his appeal to the Korean audience, after giving such an emotional performance at the Olympics. Just hope his back injury is completely recuperated by then.

Too bad Borser doesn't take American skaters. Yuzuru would make a wonderful and supportive big brother (like he is to Shoma) and PBJ Boy can show him how to dress up and have some fun. A fan is allowed to do some wishful dreaming, right?

Forgot to wish everyone a belated Happy Easter (where are the bunny emoticons) and April Fool's Day :)

By the way, can anyone tell who is the guy in this picture with little Vincent? Isn't it Adam? Vincent looks like he is around 12/13 years of age. Didn’t Adam have curly blond hair back then? But it could be this look from the 2012 NHK Adam Rippon SP video (skating to Nessum Dorma, what a drastic change). If it was Adam, they should have brought it up at the Olympics team interviews to show the progression and connection.

Yes, that looks like Adam Rippon to me. Happy Easter/April Fools!

Correct, it is Adam. The photo is from 2013.

... In case anyone hasn't seen this:

GIF of Vincent dancing with the rest of the Olympic FS team ...

No big whoop, but the video is from 2017 Champs Camp. It is not an Olympic team thing.

It's not Jeffrey Buttle; looks like Adam to me. I've seen both of them in person--Jeff at Worlds 2003 when I was a volunteer, and I even got to talk to Adam at the Ice House in NJ in 2007. :)

Thanks for the confirmation. I knew it was Adam! When you get a chance, can you tell us more about your encounters with Adam and any other famous figure skaters? Do you skate professionally yourself?

Thank you for the correction. Sorry about the error. I am not a FS aficionado who follows USFSA, but still, should have known better since I spotted Jason and Ashley in the background somewhere. Thanks also for the confirmation and link to Vincent's site. I noticed the AAC cast photo with Alexa and made a collage to show the progression (including Nathan). Hope you all enjoy.

First Team Dad, and now Team Mom

Adam: Look, little Vincent is all grown up but I still look as young as I was, just hotter and sassier!
Alexa: my little adopted Asian son has all grown up! I am so proud of him!

Oh, it wasn't much of an encounter but in 2007 I attended an adult skating weekend camp at the Ice House in NJ, headed by Craig Maurizi and Morosov. I had forgotten my blade guards and needed to get upstairs so I asked Adam in the lobby if there were an elevator. He was so nice and walked me over there. A couple of years later or so I wrote an email to Adam saying I was a fan of his skating and wished him the best; he wrote back and thanked me for the email-- before he became natl. champ and then famous! Also before that I used to see him compete at the Liberty Open in Aston, PA; even then you could see the kid had talent.

At the skating camp, there were a bunch of elite skaters there helping, like John Zimmerman, Silvia Fontana, the Reeds, Elene Gedevanishvili, Kyoko Ina. Oksana Baiul was on a session with the adults but she didn't really give us any tips; she just kept jumping big double jumps (salchow maybe) over and over again. Miki Ando and Daisuke Takahashi were also there. My friend spoke Japanese so she talked a little to them as well as the Reeds; they were all so nice and friendly. I thought it was a little weird that Morosov was giving Miki a shoulder massage right in front of everyone in the lobby/eating area, and Miki looked a little awkward. My friend made some comment that after talking to him, she didn't get the vibe that Takahashi was gay (but perhaps her gaydar isn't too good). She also said that Morosov looked at her in a suggestive way, staring directly at her a little too long during group instruction.

Anyway, I'm not a pro, just a former adult competitor who started skating at little too late at age 12. I've lived on the west and east coasts, skated at a bunch of different rinks (incl. Berkeley Iceland, Oakland US Ice, Lake Arrowhead for a camp, Fairfax Ice Arena when Michael Weiss trained there), and was the figure skating reporter for AsianAthlete.com, now defunct, for several years. It was lots of fun, but also exhausting running around getting interviews and writing up articles during competitions. Maybe I'll compete again in another year or so, but I have kids now and a real job. The adult skating community is very supportive and fun. Thanks for sharing in this interesting and entertaining forum for fellow skating fanatics.

Wow, livetoskate, thank you for sharing such interesting stories of your meeting with Adam and the other skaters. I love hearing personal anecdotes and impressions. Thanks for confirming what a nice and caring guy Adam truly is. That was so nice of him to email you back. I love when he went out of the way to hug Vincent and Boyang (who are not huggers) and thanked the knitting volunteers for the gifts in the 2017 Finlandia Trophy Victory Ceremony. Boyang is so funny, he looks like he works at a spa and Vincent looks like a hotel clerk/attendant in that old FS costume, LOL. Adam’s white top is really elegant. I have a lot to say about FS costumes ;), which I will save for another post.

Your impressions of Morozov are a bit too much  but funny nonetheless  Thanks for sharing your honest feedback. I’m sure it must have been really strange. Despite his scandalous rumors, I still tear up with his emotional reaction to Florent Amodio’s skate. And you met Daisuke ! My favorite skate of his is the 2013 NHK LP to Beatles Medley, which I have watched more times than I can count and can never get enough. The part starting from 4:30 with the spins and skate around the rink (to the Long and Winding Road) always give me goosebumps and tear me up. In fact, I have to credit Daisuke for making me a real FS fan. After Dai retired, I kind of got bored for a while when Yuzuru was winning everything (same with Medvedeva) and couldn’t get excited until Shoma came on the scene, and now Nathan and Vincent and Alina. It’s so good to have new blood to challenge the same winners and bring new excitement into the field.

It must have been really interesting working as a FS reporter. I can imagine how exhausting it must be. Was that before the age of cellphones and social media? I really have to take my hat off to the likes of Jackie Wong and all those photographers at Worlds constantly churning out information, tweets and pics. Too bad you are no longer reporting or this season would have been the best ever with all the Asian American skaters in the Olympic team and Nathan being the Golden Boy. When you get back to competing, be sure to let us know so we can cheer you on!

I am not a skating fanatic like the regular posters. My head swells just stepping foot into some of the other threads, with debates, term papers, attacks, theories, long-winded arguments and conjectures back and forth on skater's personal lives, etc. I have learned a lot but sometimes, it gets overwhelming, LOL. My other favorites all have hundreds of pages in their FF (well, Dima and Junhwan are not there yet but they are doing fine so far), they don't need me to add in my two cents. So I am doing all I can to help Vincent build up his FF. It's my nature to root for the underdog and I truly feel he is underappreciated, undervalued and dismissed. Case in point, the video of "On the Ice with the 2018 US Olympic Skating Team" hardly showed Vincent's face in his part (0:50-1:02). In the promo shoot video, Vincent is shown at the beginning and again at 2:29-3:33, but the final result only showed 12 seconds of his spins. I made a GIF out of his part. It would have been nice to showcase his spread eagle.

Thanks again for sharing and have a good night! :bed:
