Vincent Zhou

FWIW, for off-ice training and injury rehab/prevention, Vincent has worked with Brandon Siakel in the past. I imagine that the same continues to be true now.

(Nathan especially and other Team USA skaters also have worked with Brandon.)

So Vincent missed the podium again by less than half a point this time. If only he didn't pop the first lutz. Sigh. But he fought hard and did a good job despite the pitfalls. Very proud of him.

In the interest of accuracy:

Vincent would have needed 1.3 more points to make the NHK podium.

0.20 more points to place third in the free skate.

Onward and upward, Vincent. :)

oh, almost forget,
Vincent if you see this, please post some of your Banquet photos from NHK if you have any (if it is too much to ask, instastory would be fine:laugh:).
you may not know, but this is one of the best "thank you for your support" gift (second to "I love you too") to your fans.

Hi, yyyskate, even though Vincent was extremely happy to have had the opportunity to be in Japan and compete under the circumstances, and he did pose with other skaters and for fans, he probably wouldn't be in the frame of mind to think of taking photos to upload for fans, other than the one pic with his Instagram message. His shoulder is probably still bothering him, and who knows what else (he fell a few times during the exhibit number). But here is a nice video message for his Japanese fans and some "then and now" photos for comparison:

Video of Vincent thanking his Japanese fans for their message book, with his cute Japanese at the end. :luv17::laugh:

Then and now pictures for comparison:

2013: little Vincent with Domokun at 2013 US Nationals Junior Men competition
Now: Vincent posing with his childhood mascot Domokun, per the request of the Japanese fan club

2015 :Vincent with Nathan & Michael Parsons at JGPF Barcelona
Now: with Michael Parsons as part of NHK Team USA

2017: with Eunsoo Lim at Junior Worlds Banquet (4th & 5th pics)
Now: Waiting with Eunsoo and Michael to get onto the rink to meet Domokun

I am just so thankful that the disappointing scores did not prevent him from enjoying his time at NHK.

Thanks for your always informative input, ice coverage. And apologies for the error in the score. I originally did write 1 and a half points but then another fan's tweet (in Japanese) misdirected my attention and I clearly was looking at the FS scores, not the total. The info has been corrected.

To me Vincent's biggest problem is his constant injuries. Take it for what it's worth, but in the latest TSL Dave said Vincent is prone to training himself into the ground. I believe Vincent has the talent and drive to be a World medalist but he will get nowhere if he does not take care of his body. Does anyone know what his off ice training regimen consists of? I feel like all I hear about are his visits to his doctor.

Speaking of injuries, Andrew Torgashev, Karen Chen, Chock & Bates are all out. So Vincent isn't the only one prone to injuries. And that gossipmonger and his sycophantic sidekick love to piss on Vincent and his coaching team. They take pleasure in the demise of those skaters whom they actively disdain (Vincent being their favorite target) and would say anything to support their biased view. I will stop now before my post gets deleted for .... :furious: :dev2:

Vincent has mentioned in a few articles after Worlds that his health is an utmost priority. This season just started in the wrong foot. First, he needed to train extra hard to come back after the back injury and the disappointing showing at US Intl Classic, then the shock of having all his jumps scrutinized & downgraded at Skate America. It's not surprising he would want to go the extra mile to be remotely competitive at NHK, and probably the most important thing for him, to give his fans 2 good programs. So now that his GP assignments are over, he should be able to ease up a bit and go back to focusing on rehab and regular training.

Judging by the list of Tallinn entries, I'd say Vincent has a very good chance of medaling.
https://data.tallinntrophy.eu/2018/TallinnTrophy/CSEST2018/CAT001EN.HTM

Yes, as long as he recuperates and remain injury free. Please be well, Vincent!

I think Vincent is extremely determined and will not let these setbacks deter him from pursuing his dream.

But yeah, the injuries are worrying :(. Dave from TSL said that both Tom and Tammy would let him train himself into the ground.

He needs to be careful with his health if he wants to make it to Beijing 2022!

Totally agree, oatmella. But I wouldn't take anything Mr. Gossipmonger says about Vincent's coaching team as truth, not even with a grain of salt. He and his pathetic sycophant sidekick love to spread rumors about skaters they don't like and especially enjoy smearing you-know-what to disparage & insult their target.

I have faith that Vincent is going to be extra careful now that the GP season is over. If only he would put on some extra weight and do some strength training, after the completion of his rehab.

Thank you for being too polite to point out my typo (sorry :hopelessness:) re NHK … even after I was nitpicky about the (small) NHK score gap.

BTW, sorry also that I cannot remember where exactly I heard and/or read about Vincent working with Brandon.
IIRC, I think TZ and/or Vincent mentioned Brandon by name in a video interview and/or social media. (Last season or earlier.)
I have looked around for an article link, but cannot find one. (Maybe it had been referenced in an IN article too???)

Hope Team Vincent can quickly get him past his shoulder issue before Tallinn.

@Zenchio63 I agree with your summary and opinion.
As for TSL(specifically these 2 individuals), just about a year ago, their attitude to Nathan is exactly like to Vincent right now. Yet they had a 180 turn this season regarding Nathan since Nathan started to win and become more and more successful. They do not have credibility/integrity and cares heavily about traffic(especially recently). thus their opinions changes accordingly and the typical maneuver to get internet traffic(if they can stick to their bias, I may even gave them more credit )...
Unfortunately, TSL seems is the most prominent fan-based platform of figure skating at the moment in the US, Figure skating is such a niche sport... Thus, the saying "any exposure is better than none" even up and coming skaters somewhat need to work with them for publicity, even if they have spread vile remarks about them before.... I guess the only remedy is to have other fan-based figure skating outlet that holds different and diverse opinions to appear. I still watch TSL although they really infuriates me sometimes(I totally feel and understand your anger), just to keep my perspective regarding figure skating community open, but I have own judgement and sources other then this 2 individuals. (but this is just me, TSL still has their level of influences)

but @Zenchio63 your clever description about these 2 individual gave me a laugh today:biggrin:. hopefully, your posts won't be deleted.

as for injury.
There is an article in 2017 form Skate China https://skatingchina.com/2017/03/vincent-zhou-a-highest-possible-goal/
written in Chinese, i first saw this link through VincentJPfanclub twitter account, they linked and translated(into Japanese) this article recently.
this part they mentioned injury prevention (based in Colorado Springs) Vincent's personal and team doctor is based in Cali.
"另一方面,在科罗拉多,有专门的指导为他定制训练计划来治愈肌肉,使髋部更健康。"
In Colorado, there are specialist to designed specific plans for him to rehab muscles, to make (his) hip more healthy.
I guess the specialist maybe Brandon. since he is very well-known among Nathan fans that he is Nathan's PT. and Nathan's rehab is heavily around hip area.

maybe Vincent can have more upper body strength, flexibility and range of motion training. his recently injuries are back injury, shoulder dislocation, (not just before 2018 NHK, Vincent dislocated his shoulder 2 weeks before 2018 US Nationals as well) . repetitive shoulder dislocation, reminds me the suffering of Chinese skater Han Yan, eventually, he has to resort to very painful surgery and because of that, he is off-ice for seasons, and his career almost ended, and now he is slowly come back, may try to compete next season.
Hope this will never happy to Vincent.

I am not a doctor, but I heard local injection of anti_inflammatory sth or maybe growth factor etc. stuff may help with injury recovery. Vincent is from high-tech palo alto area. I suppose they must have more input in terms of these stuff.

ETA, also in this article, Vincent talk about his knee injury as well, during those years, every time, he bend his knees, it hurts.... Reading this again, my heart really aches. Only admire and love.

Found a few more photos of Vincent from NHK:

From pair skater Audrey Lu's Instagram:

4th pic: Audrey with with Vincent, who looks like a big brother here
5th pic: unusual to see Vincent in the front, taking the group selfie

Thanks for translating part of the Chinese article yyyskate. I did see the link on the JP fanclub Twitter account but knew it would be hopeless to read the English translation. It takes me forever to convert simplified Chinese to traditional Chinese, so I skipped it.

From this Chinese documentary video, the lady doctor whom Vincent is talking to (8:30 - 9:30) must be the one he went back to visit in California. Poor Vincent. :sad21: I wonder if she practices any acupuncture or cupping. There are many alternative healing modalities such as infrared light therapy, low level laser therapy and TENS. I hope he is able to utilize all therapies for a speedy recuperation.

The part in the video that really concerns me is what Vincent's mom said from 9:34 to 10:02. I won't bother to translate but yyyskate, you know what I'm talking about. :sad4: Thank goodness he has thousands of supportive fans to give him the strength to carry on. The pain and suffering he continues to endure in pursuit of his dream is no small feat.

To end on a positive note: I would love to have some of the postickers made by Vincent's dad

Glad you enjoyed my "toned down" description of the "INSUFFERABLE DUO". I understand completely about their popularity & the audience they are catering to. Out of respect for Vincent, I don't want to take up too much space in his FF to explain why the current duo are widely despised by serious figure skating fans. There are plenty of posts and a good thread dedicated to that discussion on another FS forum. In fact, Skate Talk Online, the newly launched webcast, was created in response to that. I will acknowledge that I enjoy Gossipmonger's interviews, such as the latest ones with Benoit* and Eunsoo**. This may not be to your liking, yyyskate, but I also like the interviews he did with Raf ;)and Doug Haw.

I do like their older videos, such as the 2015 one, TomZ: Planning for Success where Vincent was featured from 8:24 - 14:37. Tom talked about his training plan and how he prepares the skaters. Vincent was training and trying quad salchows for JGP Slovakia, and went on to win a silver medal there and in Austria.

Tom's coaching style, which is constantly mocked by the "Gossipmonger", clearly shows why it is suited to Vincent's personality and how his mind works. 8:50 Zakrajsek was asked just how many quads was too many. 11:58 He should do (quads) no more than six. Later in the session, TomZ asked Vincent to leave the ice and Vincent bowed. TomZ went on to explain why he did that and the concept of Commitment Day.

That does not sound like the type of coach who would let his student train himself into the ground. He has a very systematic approach. As mentioned previously, TomZ may have let Vincent train more than usual before NHK since there was a change in jump layout for the FS, not to mention the UR calls. And more than anything, I am absolutely sure that Vincent insisted on delivering 2 great performances for his Japanese fans. Thus the blank look on the coaches' faces when the scores were announced and Vincent's sweet smile and wave to his fans, despite the disappointing scores.

*I will write about Benoit later on and explain why I think he would be a great choreographer for Vincent, due to the great SP he did for Bradie.
**I don't usually like to meddle in the private lives of skaters, but will make an exception this time. Eunsoo is a lovely skater and would make a wonderful girlfriend for Vincent.

@Zenchio63
you are too cute (;) maybe Raf's fav emoji)

In order to avoid getting infractions. I would just say, lots of Vincent's fans hoped to see the photo of Eunsoo and Vincent together at 2018 NHK Banquet (thus I subtly hinted in my previous post), unfortunately, none of them post any...
I think Eunsoo is not very familiar with Vincent, they train in different camps, and Eunsoo is a very demure and elegant girl(maybe even a bit indifferent) and Vincent as we all know, he is very shy, so ..... and Marin maybe a good friend with Vincent (just friend, she is also one of the fan favorite;))

Facebook Live with Vincent

Connections Academy, the online school where Vincent graduated from, will host a Facebook Live event next Tuesday where Vincent will be answering pre-submitted questions.

Remember Vincent Zhou? He is a Connections Academy grad and an Olympic figure skater! He will be answering pre-submitted questions on a Facebook Live event on Nov. 20th! If you want to know more about Vincent and his path to success (and his virtual school experience), post your questions in the comments below!

The Facebook Live with Vincent will begin at 8:30pm ET on Tuesday, Nov. 20. You can post your questions on IG or on the Connections Academy Facebook page!

Instagram video: "And now I hope to attend a top college in the US." Sounds like Vincent's parents have persuaded him to pursue academic excellence. How will he balance skating and school, one of the questions that have already been submitted.

The Facebook page has a different video: "I'm ready to begin looking towards the horizon and the sun is rising."

As a fan, I hope to continue seeing him compete at the top level, all the while working on his jump technique and progressing as an all around skater. He still has ample time to improve and get ready for Beijing. I am rooting for Vincent all the way to the next Olympics. Wishing him all the best in whatever he pursues in life! He will make a great spokesperson & writer one day.

Too bad I wasn't able to watch the livestream of the SP due to time but glad to see Vincent is in 3rd place. :hap85:

Good luck with the FS tomorrow and hope to see you on the podium! Go Vincent! :agree:

That would be a nice confidence booster if he could get on the podium here. All the best in the free!
