Wakaba Higuchi

wakabond is in place XD this girl will kill me, we know where her inspiration comes from when she walks in FS.

it's true that it's a pity that she does not remove her 3F And instead puts her beautiful 3Lo, but hey has already shown wisdom when a she remove his 3lo / 3lutz combination although it is sublime

The first half of this is about Waka.

At around 2:00, she says last season she was satisfied merely being chosen for 4CC and worlds and such complacency showed in her results. She had never been so angry with herself as she was afterwards and never wanted to lose like that again.
She started practicing with the sense of "beyond satisfaction." If she feels satisfied with 3 jumps then she goes for 5. It's a good feeling and has given her confidence.

I can't wait for the return of the shoulder shimmy in the SP! :yahoo:

I love her LP to pieces, but sometimes I think her SP is kind of underrated. It's an amazing program too!

I agree, Wakaba IMO has the best set of Olympic programs. Unique, creative, and dynamic. Her programs in the past haven't showed off her skillset that much in my opinion, but these programs really do!

It also shows in the big number of new fans she's gotten this season. This thread has never been as popular as it is this year. She has become a top Olympic contender and a fan favorite two in one! Way to go Wakababy!

I agree! :yahoo: I've been a fan since she debuted on the junior circuit and she got her fair share of criticism, even up until last season. Most people were just not taken by her skating or her programs. This season, however, I see so many people cheering for her which makes me happy. It even shocked me to see how popular she was :) Shows what a solid set of programs can really do for a skater.

For me both her programs scream Olympic gold medalist!
And to think I actually hated her FS first time I watched it... It has really grown on me during the season. [emoji1]

Honestly I remember seeing her first when she was 13 at one of the JGP or JWC or something, and I thought that it was impossible that she was only 13 by the quality of her skating. And then I saw some of her EX at the same age and I was like :eeking: I don't know what Hamada does with them, but maybe she picks out students that already have an incredible skating style/maturity and she sees that and knows exactly what to do with it.

Agreed! And I think what I like most about her two programs this year is that they’re very different from each other. Gypsy Dance is energetic in a fun, entertaining way, while Bond is also energetic but instead in a serious, suspenseful way. The programs perfectly show how talented she is in interpreting different genres of music.

Waka lives in Tokyo and her coach is Koji Okajima.

Me too!! She was only 13 but already a star for me. I also remember the criticism she used to get especially in regards to her presentation but I always thought she never got the programs to help her show that hidden talent. But she did now and right on time! I feel like a proud aunt.

I’ve been a fan since I saw her SP at Trophee de France last season. I thought that SP was amazing and her interpretation was so beautifully sophisticated and mature. I couldn’t believe she was only 15! I didn’t think her LP was as good when I saw it, but it grew on me throughout the season. This year, she has two phenomenal programs and she skates with a confidence and fire that is undeniable.

Go WakaGypsy and WakaBond! Slay GPF! :cheer:

That was an amazing short program by Wakaba! She was so lively and expressive, I felt such joy watching her.
