What if Cohen does not win a top 3 spot at Nat's?

Well- I'm not so sure about MK. I agree with you about SC having much more Cop experience, but MK usually brings her A-game to Nats. But if Cohen can skate lights out, and Kwan has a performance similar to the one she had at 05 Nats, then opportunity suddenly starts knocking...

Yes- The future generation of skaters (and some of the current ones too) will be more in tuned with the system than a past generation (MK). I just don't feel as if she wants to continue with it at this point (could be wrong, of course)

I think you're holding Michelle with way too much regard. Sasha will make the team because she is proven under COP and is comfortable with the new scoring system. Michelle is not and keeps on b!tching about how she can't just skate and she has to keep counting. Well she can count at home if she doesn't skate well at Nats. .

Not only her b!tching, Johnny b!tched, Tim b!thed, even TT b!tched, Frank b!tched, Witt b!tched, list goes on and on.

Am I the only one to think that Alissa's appearance in the GP has little to do with the battle for the US Olympic team? Nationals is what counts. If she doesn't deliver there, it's all for naught. It wouldn't matter what she did in the GP at that point.

If Meissner gets a reality dose in the GP events, as opposed to the ridiculously inflated scores she received at the U.S cheesefest, as I expect she will, and with Czisny's great early season showings at the GP events; it could sway the USTA to have Czisny "set up" for the 3rd spot on the U.S team instead of Meissner, or atleast give her a fair shot at it going into the event, which would not have been the case about a month ago.

OT: Isn't the USTA a tennis organization? Don't you mean the USFS?

Back On topic: Inflated? I'll wait until Meissner's GP events to determine that. I won't jump to conclusions...Also, as with most skaters that come out with a bang, there are many opportunities for her [Alissa] to fizzle...Maybe she'll prove me wrong at the GPF and Nationals, but...still don't get the fan hype. Maybe it's just the excitement in the air but to me it means almost nothing.

To me, it means everything. If you're not bouncing off the ceiling when your fave nails that triple flip, what's the point?

Changing yourself to fit in the new system shoudn't be too hard, if you really want to do it. Irina simply put her one leg up all the time, biellman spin, biellman spiral. But she still does not have the extention. She is only bendy. If Michelle is willing to hold her one leg up through her both programs, I'm should CoP will be friendly to her.

The thought of Michelle doing a Biellman makes me   . There are other ways to get high value elements other than the Biellman, and I am sure she can find something if she is willing to endure the work and the pain. That is a big if however. If Kwan could do a Biellman like Czisny she would be in great shape however.

The USFSA adopted a rule about 6 years ago that requires the Worlds team to be made up of the 3 medalists at US Nats, if they are age elegible. I assume that this also applies to thje Olympic team. They wanted to have the skaters win the spots so that the process would be out in the open. This was in responce to criticism of the old invitation system which was done secretly by a commitee. The placings at US Nats are now the ONLY factor in choosing the team.

So if Sasha misses the podium at Nats, and the three medalists are old enough to go, then Sasha's only chance would be a withdrawal by one of the medalists.

Biellman spin really takes tolls out of you body. Many skaters could do it beautifully when they were young. By the time they reach 13 or 14, the flexibily decrease and not much time to exercise the backs, beillman spin and position can cause back pain and serious injury. If Michelle has not practiced the spin much while she was a young girl, I don't think she can get it now. Maybe a Y position inside ourside spiral can get her more points since Michelle can do forward and backward Y spins.

Not everyone has the flexibility to do a Bielman, but may be more flexible in other parts of the body to do higher level moves more readily.

I'd be stunned if Sasha & Michelle aren't on the Nationals podium. They are seasoned veterans who are proven World competitors. They would both have to do zamboni imitations to not be on the podium IMHO.

Kimmie, Alissa and others have competed at the international level in various events, but so far in either weak fields or at non-senior events.

I remember thinking how much Surya's artistry improved during a GP event. Then I saw her in competition with other top skaters and could then see that she still wasn't as good as the top, but improved for her.

I think Alissa is a very good skater, but none of the skaters at Skate America have been on the World podium for at least a couple of years if ever. Sokolova had her one medal and hasn't given a medal performance since in a full field. Alissa skated great compared to the rest of the field, but I think we have to see her with the other top skaters to really see the differences.

Kwan finished 4th at Worlds 2005, missing the podium by .3 with a truly non-CoP friendly FS and no CoP experience. No one can tell me that Alissa Czisny, Emily Hughes, Beatrisa Liang or Kimmie Meissner can match such a finish with their present skills.

Even with many mistakes, both Sasha and Michelle will get high enough PCS scores to ensure they make the Olympic team. Bank on it. They are the ones with REAL World standings (no relation to ISU rankings) and the ones who have the best chance to medal at Torino.

In other words, ITA.

110% here, too.

Not Gonna Happen....

Not gonna happen you all. Michelle or Sasha will be 1 or 2 at Nationals. I also think Kimmie is a sure bet for third, regardless of how well Alissa spins or competes in the Grand Prix Series. Michelle and Sasha are light years ahead of their closest national competitors. The other ladies are still juniorish in their presentation skills. Emily isn't even on the radar.

U.S. Figure Skating Olympic Team Selection Process
The United States Olympic Figure Skating Team shall include the current U.S. Figure Skating Champion in each
discipline. The remaining selections in each discipline for the U.S. Olympic Team will be selected by U.S.
Figure Skating’s International Committee, taking into consideration the results of events in the following order
of importance:
1. Current U.S. Figure Skating Championships
2. Most recent Senior Grand Prix Final
3. Most recent World Figure Skating Championships
4. Most recent Four Continents Figure Skating Championships
5. Most recent World Junior Figure Skating Championships and Junior Grand Prix Final
Skaters meeting the above criteria who did not compete or complete competition in the current U.S. Figure
Skating Championships due to injury or illness, verified by U.S. Figure Skating or United States Olympic
Committee (USOC) personnel, may be considered for selection. In addition, U.S. Figure Skating or USOC
medical personnel must verify that the athlete(s) will be physically ready to compete at the Olympic Games.

In the unlikely event that Sasha (or Michelle) skate so badly at Nats that they cannot legitimately be placed on the podium, I think the USFSA can (and should) give a great deal of weight to the reason for the poor skate. For example, if it is due to a new illness, or $peedy has had one of them whacked (and is trying to frame the other, to generate more interest) -- a bye can legitimately be given

Michelle and Sasha will be #1 and/or #2- in any order at USN. They are at a different level than a lot of talented young skaters that could give them a run for their money. Barring injury, I don't expect either one to drop to 3 or lower. They are the USA's best hopes for OGM. The USFSA will not leave them off the team.

At Campbells Kimmie had more jump combinations than Sasha, but lower scores. That was perfectly justified. I doubt that even a triple axel would push Kimmie over Sasha or Michelle unless either one bombs. I doubt that will happen, given the experience these two have.

Vash

What if.....

I don't know what the USFSA will do,but for myself personally,I would stand on my roof and yell "BORTAHUCKA!!" at the top of my lungs(Translation,I would be disappointed).
