Looking at current scores from Skate Canada, its pretty indicative that some Canadians at least seem to enjoy a spike in PCS marks.

Now lets put this in perspective even if someone like Suzuki or Flatt who didn't make a mistake in Cup of China, and Skate America would still have lost to Rochette in Skate Canada. Even Rochette in Cup of China got 111 in the FS, she got 113 in Skate Canada... So Rochette even beats Rochette.

Even if Csizny skate perfectly in FS i don't believe she could have overtaken Rochette in the overall marks cause combined there was a 15 point differential in PCS marks between her and Rochette and 20+ point differential between Rochette and the rest of her competitiors. Rochette isn't the only one benefiting from the home crowd advantage

Now in Vancuover how do you think the general public who do not watch skating regularly would react if say Cziny, Nakano, or any other skater without an olympic medal skates clean in both programs and gets beat by a subpar program because of the PCS? Do you think this will cause a major controversy if this happens?

I think it would cause a major controversy if Alissa skated two clean programs in the same competition ;)

As long as the best skaters appear on the podium in the right order there will be no controversy. People at GS might argue about the numbers but casual fans and the public who only watch skating every four years won't care. They won't understand the numbers either and won't particularly care what they mean except to know that 200 beats 195.

If we see an LP with several popped jumps and a fall and that skater still wins based on a good SP score and then some generous pcs the casual fans and even the public might feel something is fishy.

But they are used to it and nobody would be too surprised if there was another controversial decision or even a scandal.

Actually my latest theory is that the scandals are part of ISU's master plan. The sport of figure skating has such limited appeal it can't survive without new scandals every four years. Look for the Dance to provide the fireworks this season as North America has the best teams but they will probably not be judged any more failry than they have at past Olympics.

Tears from Tessa, Merle or Tanith over another cheat would not go over well - but could provide the spark ISU needs to keep people watching and complaining for a few years.

But beware of the Canadians who are even bigger and louder crybabies than the Americans. Better to rob an American Dance Team because if the Canadians get robbed there could be as much whining as there was at SLC. ;)

Then again that might be just what skating needs

Well, I would say it depends on who is being robbed.

If a skater is from an obscure country, or from (lying, cheating, eeeeeevil) Russia, there may be some boos. Perhaps a few sympathetic comments from the press after the event.

But if it's a Canadian skater with those two clean programs? Or perhaps a popular American? Well, bring on the media circus and get ready to rumble like it's SLC 2002.

Let's hope so. A major controversy leading to CoP being taken out behind the shed and shot is about all the hope skating has left.
