What will 2010-11 bring for Caroline Zhang?

Yeah, thanks for the link, Bob!

Caroline sounds optimistic, excited, and more mature. This might be the most substantive interview I've seen from her yet. I really hope that all her hard work pays off in the coming season, and that if she makes some jump mistakes, as she probably will after reworking all her technique, that she won't be discouraged by the low scores/placements.

Goooo Caroline!

She also confessed a deeply-held secret: she likes Domos. They cute yet scary looking!

So I had to google "Domo" to find out what it is. Official mascot of NHK, apparently, which also just happens to be sponsor of the Japanese GP event. I'm *sure* NHK would love to supply Caroline with a giant Domo and show it in K&C if her wishes were made known to them? ;)

But did you notice that it has a huge mouth with sharp teeth? I like to think of it as a cute mini-monster, which would actually look charming in Caroline's hands in the kiss and cry.

Sorry for the double post. Here is a nice Caroline article. She sounds eager to show off her improvements at the Grand Prix.

Sounds promising! Interesting her comment on how she was afraid to change her technique last year because she was afraid it it was too risky in an Olympic year. I wondered if that was the case. It's honest of her, and you can't really blame her. It WOULD have been risky. Course, not fixing things ruined her chances anyway but it's understandable that she would have wanted to stay in her comfort zone in an Olympic year.

I do hope she gets her act together. You know it was painful to watch her struggling every year.

She says she is working to fix her problems. So the question is, ..... how is she doing? I figure if she was falling on her butt in her training sessions, she would dread the thought of competing in actual events. But she seems very eager to compete. This indicates her training is coming along very well.
On the other hand, so many knowledgable posters on different message boards have indicated that it is not possible to fix such issues in a single season. Are they correct? Well, we will all find out in 2 weeks.

Yes, this is indeed the question. And no, it isn't possible at this age to fix all of her (serious technical) issues in a single season...and she hasn't even had that long. However, I don't think in her first competitive showing, she needs to have EVERY problem cleanly fixed in order to show improvement. Just skating with speed and getting rid of the worst of the mule-kick, and landing most jumps cleanly, would be enough for most people to nod with encouragement and say "OK, great start." However, if she shows little sign of improvement on any front, you should expect some rather merciless comments on the forums.

FWIW, Richard Dornbush decisively won the Men's gold at JGP Dresden, and I think Tammy Gambill is his coach. So, she obviously knows something on the technical side. Hopefully she has found a way to successfully handle both Caroline and Mama Zhang.

I would be content with Caroline just skating faster-- and that I think is doable within the time frame she's had.

She was skating at a reasonable speed much of last year, so I am not as concerned with that as I am

1.) fixing her double axel--she needs this to go anywhere in the SP

2.) fully rotating all her jumps

3.) bringing back the 3/3

if she does that this year, that will be a success. Eventually I would have to see the mule kick gone and her to get a true lutz, but just a few things at a time here.

Actually, there is one crucial thing that you've left out:

Choreography, transitions, and interpretation. Last season she was so focused on speed and jumps that the "artistic" aspects of her skating really suffered.
