Who's Going to Worlds?

Does anyone know the best quality/price hotel near the TD garden which still has rooms available? I would like to get to the TD garden by public transportation from the hotel! Thanks :)

Are you flying? The hotels are all pretty expensive ($250-$300 at this point), but you can shave a little bit of the cost if you buy one of those flight/hotel packages form Expedia and Orbitz.

There seems to be plenty of rooms available. You might want to see if you can negotiate a price with Priceline too.

I agree with Mrs. P. I saw that all the "cheap" hotels were booked (like $176 plus the 15% tax) so I am at the Royal Sonesta which is going to run me over $2000 for 8 days. If you are comfortable with priceline, Expedia and Orbitz, use them. I have no idea how they can get rooms at booked up hotels but they seem to.

Public transportation is very convenient in Boston, mainly the T (subway). I would stay any where near the Green line (doesn't matter B, C, D or E) and take the T to the TD garden. Orange line also goes to North Station (where TD Garden is), but I feel some of the places it goes through aren't as nice. Skaters are staying at the Boston Marriott Copley Place, if the price is about the same, why not stay there? It's also very close to the T (Prudential Station, Green line E), which is about 6 stops from North Station.

Thanks CoyoteChris and Shyne! When you say that the places Orange line goes through aren't as nice, do you mean it is a little less safe? Because I've been looking at the AC Hotel Boston Medford which is kind of the cheapest hotel left. http://www.marriott.fr/hotels/travel/bosac-ac-hotel-boston-north/
I could get to the TD Garden via the Wellington Station (Orange Line). I just want to be sure that it is safe to walk around this area. Thank you :)

To the person (Tammi?) who suggested I walk to the Science Park "T" station instead of to the Lechmere, thanks! I "walked" it on google street view and The distance is about the same from the Royal Sonesta Hotel but the "neighborhood" looks much safer for those 11PM walks.....
(cant wait to see the chain of events that lead to the run-a-way T train today....the mayor is very skeptical about this "event" and I dont blame him. Engineers just dont walk off of trains and then the trains accelerate with out them. Thankfully there was a remote control override.)

My bad. Many use the Orange line to commute to Boston, but it passes through places like Malden, which I heard the crime rate is high (not all of it, but I'm not sure what parts of it, but from what I heard I don't feel comfortable walking around there after 11PM).
I have not heard anything bad about Medford. Maybe someone from that area can tell you more about it. Sorry I'm not that much of help.

It's Friday where I am and I've been madly refreshing the gala ticketmaster site for the past week without seeing any new lower level releases. :scratch2: hoping it is still happening!

Thanks Maggierose! I would like to try that cluster of Italian eateries for sure....for something alittle closer to the arena (I walk fast but sometimes there isnt much time) what do you think about the Boston Beer Works, McGann's Irish pub, and West End Johnnies?... (Mrs P, where did we eat the last time we were in Boston for our group?)
Don't drive like my Brother....

I've been to other locations of Boston Beer Works, and it's pretty decent. Food is fine, beer is decent, good selection but nothing special. It's a reasonably solid choice but nothing spectacular.

Medford is pretty safe, from what I hear. If I take the subway to work, I'm taking the orange line, but from the south part of the city so I'm not as familiar with the north side.

Chris, the area around the Science Park t-stop is very safe, I often walk through that way at night. In fact, I'll be walking from the Garden to the Museum of Science after each event because I work at the museum and can park there for free whenever I want.

A quick note for those taking the subway from TD Garden- the entrance to the green and orange lines that is connected to the Garden is going to be closed starting in January so if you need to take the subway you will have to use the entrance that is across Causeway Street. Not too far away, but a little bit of extra walking and crossing a busy street.

I worked in a building across from Wellington Station for a couple of years. That area has a lot of traffic but is generally safe. Someone I know lived at one of the apartments at Station Landing and hasn't had any problems. Also, it looks like your hotel is about 3-5 minutes from the station by foot, so I wouldn't worry too much about walking late at night. There's a few restaurants and plenty of shops in that block alone.

Use Airbnb.

Just bought my ticket to Worlds! It will be my first skating competition - super excited! I'm in Section 2, row 17 (behind judges)

I think I posted this before, but I lived in Boston (actually Somerville) for 6 years so if people have general questions, ask away!

In terms of lodging, I think VRBO has nicer places than AirBnB (just my opinion). I will be staying with a friend.

I booked a hotel in Somerville since it seems cheaper than other options and close enough to go to TD Garden by public transportation. I think Assembly is the closest station? How's the safety around that area?

Somerville is fine in general. I took a look and Assembly is next to Legoland (which wasn't there when I lived there) so I'm not familiar with that area. I lived near Porter Sq. Davis Sq is nice too (next to Tufts U).

Hope we get a chance to meet up!

I think we're going to try to do a few GS meetups. :)

Interesting new hotel, opening in March? at $171 plus tax, its pretty inexpensive. The area looks a bit industrial on one side but you are saving over $50 a day so you could even take a cab to the T if you didnt want to walk it at night.....Also will have a Euro Breakfast which is a step above the continental breakfast, which would save you money.....and you get Marriott rewards points....I thought about switching but with my luck, the place wouldnt open on time! LOL! Well, on Jan 27, my hotel bills me the full amount of my stay cause its an "official" hotel so I have time to think about it....the skywalk to the trains is an interesting feature.....and the T ride is only 16 minutes.....

Just checked with Hotels.com. Price is a steal at $550 a night...plus 15 percent.....but only during the skating event....

Thanks, charmblade....all good to know for sure....and I will see if I can find that Causeway street entrance right now....OK, I see a big "T" on a grey building right next to the CVS pharmacy on the south side of Causeway? Will that be the entrance?
