My predictions
Worlds the easiest ( just pick top finishers at Canadians)
Men ; Buttle, Chan
Women : Rochette , Leung
Dance: Virtue/Moir , Weaver/Poje , Mccurdy/Coreno
Pairs: Langlois/Hay , Dube/Davison , Duhamel/Buntin
4CC - assume top Canadians unless Skate Canada wants to give a few skaters an ISU ranking boost so they can get GP assignments next year. Remember a skater can only count the highest point total from one of Worlds, 4CC or Junior Worlds towards the ISU ranking so spreading these assignments out somewhat is preferred.
Men: Buttle,Chan,Sawyer - Will Skate Canada rest Buttle and/or Chan for Chipheur and/or Mabee? Unlikely.
Ladies: Rochette, Leung , Phaneuf - Rochette needs to tune her 3-3 here and Leung and Phaneuf aren't in the top 24 in ISU rankings so they need the points. Unfortunately that means Hawker's ranking will drop as her 4CC points get reduced.
Dance: Virtue/Moir , Weaver/Poje , McCurdy/Coreno
It is very likely that Skate Canada will rest Virtue/Moir for GIrard/Dougherty as G/D need to build an ISU ranking to get GP assignments ( other than Skate Canada ) next year.
Pairs: Dube/Davison , Langlois/Hay , Duhamel/Buntin - no resting of top guns as Kirkland and Kyra are too young to go.
Junior Worlds
Men: Reynolds, Martinez , Balde

In the past, Leung has not wanted to do 4CC so that might play a part in the ladies decision. I think Rochette needs the competition before worlds. Ditto Buttle. Not sure about Chan — he's had a really busy season so far, doing the GPF — he may choose a rest — then again, he's young and energetic.
As for dance and pairs, I think all three of the pairs teams could benefit from 4CC, where they could do very well (particularly, depending on who China sends). D/D could use another competition before Worlds to tune up, Langlois/Hay could use an interim comp. as Canadian champions, and D/B, as new as they are, can use all the competitive experience and exposure with international judges they can get.
In dance V/M may want to skip it, but if the U.S. sends their top teams, they may want to try to beat B/A before worlds, which would give them a boost. All of the other dance teams could use the international experience and exposure.

With 4CC, it also depends on how US nationals play out. If US is sending their top dogs, Skate Canada are more likely to send our podium finishers.
It would be nice if we could reinstate North American Competitions - not the cheesefest that we remember- so that the Canadian skaters can measure up against US counterparts, who are normally very strong, before the Worlds. This would be good enough preparation for the Worlds. I mean traveling to Far East is something you wouldn't want to do, especially a month before the most important competitions of the year.

Last year Skate Canada wanted to give Phaneuf a chance to build an ISU ranking and have her score on the top 24 on the season best list so she could get GP assignments. It didn't work ( Phaneuf bombed 4CC's last year) but had she done well there she would have received 2 GP assignments instead of just Skate Canada.
This year I think SC will try to do the same with Girard/Dougherty.
Wanting to get Phaneuf back on the GP had something to do with the choice, but Leung has made no bones about not wanting to do 4CC in the past. I believe in the past in Canada that the top nationals finishers have always been given a choice whether or not to attend 4CC.

Too bad Martinez is not getting a ticket for Junior Worlds.

Maxime-Billy Fortin needs a little more polish. Once he finds his "it" factor, then he is ready for international competitions.
Pairs and dance teams are all strong. It must have been a tough call on judges' part at the nationals.

Although Ian Martinez did beat Jeremy Ten at Canadians I think they made the right decision in sending Jeremy instead of Ian to Junior Worlds. Jerremy has been consistently better internationally and it is not like Ian beat Jeremy by a large amount.
It is nice to see some skaters ( Chipheur , Miller/Moram ) get a chance to boost their ISU rankings.
I am shocked that they didn't do the same in dance and give Girard/Dougherty a chance to build their ISU rankings at 4CC's. Although it allows gives a chance for Virtue/Moir to score one over Belbin/Agosto , I would love to see as many Canadian entries on the GP as possible.

:yes:I think Skate Canada might want to give V&M a chance to solidfy their position as a "major" team on the world stage. They've been doing that all season, but I think this Worlds is really important for them. If they can get a spot on the podium, or come really, really close to one, then they'll definitely be in the mix for a gold medal in 2010. I think that of all the disciplines, dance is still the most open to politics and manipulation, so anything V&M can do to get it in the judges' mind that they should be the next Olympic gold medalists should be done. This means giving them a chance to put their programs in front of international judges one more time before Worlds, to get valuable feedback.

In April of 2006, I attended the Champions on Ice show in Hartford, Connecticut. I took pictures of the whole cast. My mother was on vacation in Aruba at the time, so I emailed her a shot of Michelle Kwan.
She replied back, "Oh, that's Nancy Quan!"
I can see why Chan and D/D might want to skip 4CC. They all recently did the GPF, and so already have a good international profile, so some time to work on their programs for worlds might be time better spent. I'm sure they also want the rest. It's not like them not going slaughters the quality of the Canadian team for 4CC anyway — we're still sending a strong bunch of skaters.

I'm not surprised about the picks for 4cc Chan did the GPF so he doesn't need another event, and DD did the same plus with the horrible accident last year I don't blame them for not coming! But wow 4cc for the ladies will have Mao, Miki, Yuna and Joannie too bad CBC isn't planning on covering it!
