Yulia Lipnitskaya

@moviebuff, I totally agree. I adore Yulia but also feel that she is very vulnerable. I am glad she seems physically okay and we will make sure of that in the exhibition.
I believe she will come back strong on her own schedule. :)

Don't understand your emphasis/outrage re an "official" Facebook page. It is an independent website/magazine's FB page -- unaffiliated with the ISU or any federation.

It "officially" belongs to International Figure Skating, but so what? This thread "officially" belongs to GS.
It is only natural that a range of opinions would be represented in the comments in both places.

My thing is that if YL is not old enough to be a gracious loser, I wish that she had waited to become a Senior lady. If she wants to enjoy the higher highs of Senior competition, then she needs to accept the lower lows as well.

I meant that it became "official" among FS fans. They go there to check for updates and this page is considered to be credible and decent. I guess it's not the case.

Personally, I don't like the whole attitude of "she should accept the lower scores too". I bet she does so that's why she's so upset about it.
I don't know her, her family or what she's been through in her short life- so that's why I don't judge. I don't think it's fair of adults to sit behind a keyboard and write nasty things. even if she was mistaken (and I'm not saying she isn't)- what about some compassion?

Why are you in this thread golden411? You do realize we can talk to you in Free Skate thread right?

And it's obvious that she is distraught about putting on an embarrassing performance, not about losing. Yes she should have been at the ceremony but people are trying to turn it into something it isn't.

I purposely had stayed out of this thread previously. And the truth is that I forgot that I was in the fan thread this time.

I will remember next time. But I don't think my comments above were inappropriate for the fan thread -- and IMO, a "gracious loser" puts on a brave face no matter how embarrassed.

I didn't say, "lower scores."

I said, "lower lows" -- as in emotional highs and lows ... highs and lows of prestige ... highs and lows of prize money, etc. -- as a Senior competitor vs. a Junior competitor.

I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you were not lumping me under "nasty" or lacking compassion.

Leaving this thread now.

I know this is a very weird time for a first post, but I would just like to add that I absolutely ADORE this kid!

I know that last night was shocking to say the least, and that yes, she definitely should've gone to the ceremony if she physical could have. The excuse was poor and beneath an athlete of her calibre. This is pure speculation and over-worrying on my part...But honestly, last night after all the CoC chaos, I saw a jptv video of Yulia crying, followed by a twitter pic of only Liza and Kanako on the podium, and I was severely worried something serious had happened (or god-forbid were to happen), I hoped that either Eteri or her mother was keeping an eye out for (/on) her. She's one tough introverted kid, but she is also soooo vulnerable to something as public and scrutinised as this. I read on another forum that Tarasova she said both 'the athlete, and the coach is to blame' (or something along those lines) for the lack of decorum and respect, I agree yet there is ONE huge exception. Under certain circumstances, "saving face" should be put strictly aside for the well-being of an athlete, which is second to none. If that was the case, then I commend and am grateful to Eteri. Again, I am purely speculating.

For me, Yulia's magnetism extends beyond just skating. Her blunt, fiery, unpredictable, impulsive personality is one of her greatest qualities, yet it can also be her achilles heal, and can be an extremely easy and vulnerable target for folks and critics to attack. I am Chinese-by-birth, and I do believe Yulia was born in the year of the Tiger. So forgive me if I go off on a little tangent here.
'Tiger people are daring fighters, they are capable of standing up to the better end for what they think is right. Although they could be selfish from time to time in the little things, they are capable of great generosity. Tigers are unpredictable, always tense. and like to be in a hurry. Tiger people are difficult to resist, for they are magnetic characters and their natural air of authority confers a certain prestige on them. They are tempestuous yet calm, warm-hearted yet fearsome, courageous in the face of danger yet yielding and soft in mysterious, unexpected places. Tigers are very confident, perhaps too confident sometimes.'

I adore her, and hope above all else she mentally recovers from all this, and learns from this. I love her skating (she reminds me of younger, less refined version of S.Cohen, whom I use to watch as a kid), but her health and well-being should be put first.

Welcome. :)
Not a weird time at all, and a beautiful post.
Post often.

No need to stay away golden.

Yes, a "gracious loser" puts on a brave face. It might happen though that the "brave face" get lost. Stuff do happen.
So my point is, there really is no need to bash somebody who's already down.
By bashing, I mean by turning this into something which isn't. Like for example, she didn't want to partecipate because she lost to Lisa.
That's low. It is a prejudice and it's bias. It tells me more about the person who's saying it, and frankly, I don't think that kind of person is qualified to speak about sportsmanship or graciousness.

I am NOT speaking about you here. I want to clarify this. :)
The person I'm speaking about knows very well.

She still has one more chance for redemption in Shanghai....after which I could care less if she never returns to China...

I love her short program music! Epic film music is my favorite genre, although I'm not sure if "Megapolis" is actually from a film.

I am still in shock about what happened yesterday. For some reason I thought Cup of China might be not the place for Juliet.
Now I am convinced Shanghai are not for her. Sometimes it's just their off day, you can't expect it or prevent it.
I hope Yulia will never com back to Cup of China.
(I hope the same for Yuzuru, that was painful to watch).

Yes, not showing up at the medal ceremony was unprofessional. Yes, the organizers have every right to dock her prize money for it. But Yulia is human, not a robot. I don't expect my athletes to be perfectly professional all the time. There are many athletes who've done much worse things than this--violent or immoral things that actually hurt people.

Yulia is a perfectionist and maybe too headstrong. Those qualities are partially why I love her. But those same qualities could sometimes lead to PR disasters like this one. I just hope she comes out stronger and isn't feeling too badly right now.

Smiling again :) Hope things get back to normal soon. Wow did Yulia get really big or has Elizaveta always been so dainty? Beautiful smiles all around to lighten the mood over that horrendous competition.
Liza is actually very petite. Because she has more, er, curves than most skaters, her height isn't apparent.

Personally I don't mind that she skipped the ceremony. When I was her age I did more serious action when I upset. I almost skipped my father's funeral when I was 17. I did skip a lot of other serious meetings. I don't think it's a right thing to do. But that was a difficult time.
Yulia's still a child after all. If anything I blame the coach.

I don't blame anyone because
I couldn't blame Yulia for anything. But apart from that she is a child who has to play an adult.
And on top of that one of the most headstrong skaters in this sport, just like Yuzuru.
Do you guys think anybody advised Yuzuru to skate after that crash? No way. But he wanted to, so he did, even if it was a bad idea of course.
I'm convinced nobody advised Yulia to stay away from the medal ceremony? No way. But she didn't want to go as it seems and they can't make her.

You know, Eteri can't drag her there on her ponytail!
She is not the skater and not the mother, she is the coach. She doesn't decide, she advises.
And if her advices are ignored, she can't change it.
Sometimes this goes for the best, like Yulia's SL program and sometimes for the 'worst' like this situation.

But is it really that important? Let's just get over it, there was enough drama at this GP :slink: :)

Eteri and Yulia seem to be a solid team...and I only wish for them to stay that way for many many years to come....

I just often find myself wondering though...about the interesting directions Yulia might develop in if she ever sees a coaching change...

Here´s a quote from the facebook page mentioned earlier:
"Wow what a SORE loser. And she should never have medalled anyways. That PCS was a JOKE."

You just can´t deal with these people... Insulting Julia for not showing up at the medal ceremony and, at the same time, claiming that she didn´t deserve it anyway. Pick one or the other, dude... :disapp: Would he praise her if she stood there with a medal she doesn´t deserve? Fake smile - is that the right and graceful thing to do when you feel over-graded nowadays?

If I may add my opinion, I personally think that she didn´t show up at the medal ceremeony because she felt that it wasn´t deserved. We all know she´s a strong personality, she knows better than anybody else how she did on the ice and she doesn´t need these "favors" from the judges. She didn´t lose it to the others, she lost it to herself. Now if it was painful for us to see her fall, imagine how hard it must have been for her. And then she receives scores that are higher than what she would have expected for her performance. A little schoolgirl cheating at exams would have been happy for getting away with it, but as Julia looked at the scores she nod her head disapprovingly - not even a sign of relief. That´s not a teenager behavior - she´s adult. To me, staying away from the medal ceremony was her way to save face.

Not sure she should have gone to the Gala either...

We'll never hear the end of it...how she went the way of Britney and attacked everyone and their cats with an umbrella. *Sigh*...she's just been so out of line these few days.

I can totally see why some might not be too happy about this gala, but I reallt enjoyed it.

This wac actually the first.time.ever. that I've seen her act girly and like a teenager, instead of cute and like a child.

She is 16 now after all and even though she plays more towards child than towards woman in her competitive programs (which is a very smart choice! ) I don't see why she can't skate like a young woman in a Gala.
She looked relaxed here and most importantly she tries sth new!
She has the serious-astounishing-little- girl look down perfectly, this is sth new and maybe even challenging :agree:
