Yulia Lipnitskaya

Thank you for posting her practice video!!
I don't think double axel-triple toe-double toe is a good combination for her... She was going so fast and smoothly until that combination. It looks very laboured.
She looks much more confident now though. Go Yulia!! :yay:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pXKM61INBo Watch this from about 0:35 to about 0:55. This shows where that three-jump combination is choreographed. In the practice skate she slipped on the first jump of the combination, so she didn't continue into the combination as planned. She then arbitrarily placed it later for practice purposes, where it had nothing to do the music.

I agree with you, this combination interrupts the flow of the music. But there are times when the music breaks its momentum and rests.

I praise Yulia for many reasons, but for me her ability to integrate complex jumps without disrupting music is unique. Play the video again, this time from the beginning (0:11), and listen to what happens in the music going into that three-jump sequence. The music starts with the introduction of two phrases (the second where she "awakens" lifting arms and head), and next we hear a melody that hesitates like first love (0:20 where the announcer starts talking). Coming into 0:45, the melodic flow is interrupted with a new melody that sounds more determined (0:35) and then gently rests. So she chooses to accompany this with those obligatory jumps which interrupt and slow momentum, thus bringing us gently to rest visually. Once again, Yulia is the music. If you go a bit further in the linked video (from 0:49 to 1:24), you will hear the hesitating melody repeat and flower, it gathers strength and momentum. The planned salchow at 1:05 (here failed) is a quick jump that doesn't interrupt this flow, so it is choreographed into the middle of the section where there is no break in momentum and where feeling builds. As the music slows toward the cadence, again with the melody of determination (at beginning about 1:11) Yulia once again slows visually with the spin, the visual equivalent of the music coming to rest. Then begins the magic flickering section of great beauty, which she interprets exquisitely as footwork. But really, who could seriously describe her total body involvement as mere footwork?

Yulia is always faithful to the music. She choreographs any spin or jump that will disrupt musical flow into sections where the music also slows and rests. In this way she draws attention to the structure of the music by marking off its sections, while at the same time shaping the sound we hear with her body. She always wants to tell us something important about what we hear, and does that whatever the physical challenge. She is great.

Alba! How was the event? You had chance to see Yulia? Take a picture? Was it you who threw that stuffed kitty in striped shirt in the ice? :)

Yep I saw her because I was sitting next to where the skaters were coming. I saw myself on eurosport too. she's so fast and light. Perfect ballerina body too. I met Ksenia :cheer: my gift for Yulia is for tomorrow. :) The event was great. I left now because I had a long day and need to eat.

It's a scarf, silk. Couldn't find the one I wanted with stripes but this is cute also. It's white with kisses in blue, red and yellow. I made a picture with my phone but I can't put it now because I'm with ipad

New interview:
She said she's feeling better than in China. New boots is still not comfortable enough. She practiced less than a week between France and China, that's why jumped 3T-3T again. But it looks like she wants to go back to 3Lz-3T. That's a good sign.
And she also said she hasn't control herself before FS at China. Now she's more confident.

She looked perfect today. She's fast, covers the whole ice and she really is so light. Like flying.

I always get this 'airy' feeling when I see her skating. She's like a little fairy.

what were you saying about me, bad things? I'm the one with red hair next to my friend in red and white jacket, after Stolbova/ Klimov, from 3:43 in front of two Russian girls.

Yulia is very fast and light, that's where the PCS comes from. I'd love to see her skate to fairy music one day. Some Enya perhaps?
