Yulia Lipnitskaya

No matter what, I'll always be behind her supporting her! If this is what she feels the most right thing to do then by all means, go for it! :agree:
I can only hope for her continuous improvement and success. I hope the split is amicable and while idk much about Eteri, she seemed like she has tried to give it her all before. When it's clear that nothing else she can do to help, then a change must take place. I think it should be ok.

Looking forward to see her skating again.. (such a shame that we didn't get the chance to see her free in TEB)

How i wish she went to Rukavicin i like him as a coach and maybe yulia could work with alisa fedichkina's choreographer look at alisa's SP and FP it is soo nice to look at it made Alisa a star.😁😁

I think there will be warmer so in direct and figuratively in Sochi for Yulia. But it will be difficult to rescue this season - there is little time left before the Nationals and a coach swap is the serious step demanding additional efforts, so and additional time. But anyway I wish all the best for Yulia, I hope it will be good for her generally!

I'm among those fans who were shocked to read this news. Of course, she knows best, and I'll always be rooting for her, and it'll be interesting to see how her skating career develops under Urmanov. I thought Gosviani had beautiful programs and costumes, and was very graceful, so Urmanov does have some experience of working with a skater whose style is somewhat similar to Yulia's, although seems interested in diversifying her skating style. Personalities-wise it's hard for me to say how it'll work out, since I don't really know that much about him as a person and probably not enough about Yulia either. Still, I think that if he gives her creative freedom and helps make her jumps more consistent, they'll get along. And, yes, of course, him having as much time as she might want for her is a huge plus for any top skater. Besides, he'll be fully focused on her and make her success his uncontested number one priority. That's, of course, good for any skater.

I only wish to point out that Vaitsehovskaya hates Tutberidze ever since T said publicly that V didn't describe correctly the situation with the selection of the Russian skaters to be on the team event in Sochi (something V mentions in this article yet again). So I don't trust anything V writes about T. Certainly the assertion that Yulia was of no use to Tutberidze after the Olympics is a lie, plain and simple. When the Rus Fed bigwigs said the following season that they might send Sotnikova to Euros even if she doesn't compete at Nationals, Tutberidze went so far as to publicly express her disagreement with that decision, arguing quite forcefully. It cost her considerably. I've a read an eyewitness account that Tutberidze was ostracized at the last Russian nationals - all the other coaches there totally ignored her, when they spoke and socialized with each other. I've also never encountered a statement by Tutberidze when she called Yulia lazy or criticized her personality. Lack of motivation she did mention once, but that's a different matter. But it's nice that at least V has started to write about Yulia well, now that she has left Tutberidze. In this article V didn't repeat her favorite fib about Yulia (the one about her mother fully controlling her fs career), and even, miracle of miracles, puts her above Sotnikova!

Personally, I wish both Tutberidze and Lipnitskaya the best. I hope Eteri is not too upset by Yulia's decision, and that they parted amicably, in the full sense of this word. The fact that Yulia looked happy at TEB is not indication of what work with Urmanov will be like - they hadn't started working together yet - but I do hope that once the main changes brought by puberty are over and she doesn't have to keep adjusting her jumping technique all the time, Yulia will regain her confidence and consistency, and that she'll continue blossoming in the years to come, both artistically and technically.

I'm surprised, though, that the Rus Fed publicly announced Yulia's change of coach mid-season. I thought the transfer window was in May.

Even though there hasn't been a response from Eteri yet, I hope they keep their professionalism towards each other as a sign of respect for their previous relationship. Yulia's statement was very brief, but it was to the point: "Much gratitude to Eteri for their collaboration that has lead to much success. But time does not stand still, we must move on. I wish Eteri much success in the future. She has taught me so much." I hope the respect is mutual, and that they parted on good terms. Yulia seems at peace with it, I hope Eteri is too.

That sport-express article.....Vaytsekhovskaya just could not wait to sink her teeth into Eteri could she? Especially now that Yulia has left. That woman has had it out for Eteri and her students (namely Yulia) for a long time. I would be very cautious if I was part of Team Tutberidze when speaking/dealing with her.

Yulia was at pre-RC15 setup today/yesterday with some members of the national team getting ID/accreditation (maybe she'll be in the audience again like last year) and signing posters. It's nice to see her out and about after all the hoopla.:) She also posted an instagram pic of her and Liza from TEB.

I just hope that Yulia's move is not a part of some effort to promote figure skating in Sochi. I mean Urmanov is working in that new school in Sochi, that city now has everything a skater could possibly need and the only thing it's currently missing is star athletes. So I hope Urmanov was chosen because he actually is best for her, not because Yulia will boost the popularity of the new school.

Now you know, why I created the thread for Nastya on this forum. ;)

They both have similarly beautiful and graceful hands. But I think it's innate.

witcher, I didn't know about Gubanova until moviebuff mentioned her yesterday. Thanks to moviebuff and to you for the thread, I will now have two destinations on golden skate. You are right, it is innate, and not just the style but some important personal characteristics evident from her performances that she shares with Yulia. Which is why it is really important for Yulia to eventually coach--and that's a big topic for future discussion.

The most important reason Yulia went to another coach is an attempt to break the pattern of failure consistent since last season began. Almost as important is that the coach have enough time for Yulia. Insufficient access to coaching has been a complaint we have heard from Yulia for more than two years. I am all but certain that Yulia and Eteri decided on the change together, partly out of their mutual affection and partly because Eteri has spoken of the great potential she sees in Yulia. In the following interview excerpts, Eteri describes the advantages of the environment at ArcticEdge. The germ for the coaching change may date from ArcticEge, if not earlier. Judging from these quotes from Eteri's interview, it seems reasonable that she and Yulia agreed that Yulia needs to take a different course, and Urmanov was the obvious solution. Yulia's coach plays a vital role in guiding her through periods of change, Eteri is spread thin. Eteri may not be the best choice for crises, including puberty, which I believe she accepts. It would take strong evidence to convince me that Eteri is a negative factor in the decision to change coaches.

excerpts: ET: First of all the general mood (at ArcticEdge) which is filled with creativity. I even told Marina they are `bitten' by creativity. Secondly how things are organized. Once a week Zueva makes a schedule for the whole team. It's written down to a minute: who are the skaters, when, with who, when they switch to whom and what do they work on. They start training at 6-7am and finish around 5pm. There is one 10 minutes zamboni break during the whole day. Otherwise it's a non stop work, and not just something you do without thinking, it is a creative process when you forget the time.
Zueva is an amazing administrator. She formed a great team, professionals who are as inspired as she is, who want to see results. Oleg Epstein is pure gold, a great technical specialist. Massimo Scali is an explosion of ideas. The others are the same. Zueva herself controls all the process. She sees where they need to add things or take them off and the result is a `quality product'. I can't really tell much about the ice dance programmes since I wasn't witnessing the whole process from the scratch, but Yulia's and Adian's programmes were coming to life in front of my eyes like a puzzle. Different specialists were working on different things which created a whole new living thing.

We have a different system. We are more focused on a group work. The skaters in the USA pay themselves for the ice and the coach time, hence can demand private lessons. There are pros and cons. For example I think the competition and communication in the group is important. When Yulia was practicing for Sochi our whole group practiced with her. We had practice competitions so she would see everyone is doing it and it's hard for everyone. The guys understood it was needed. But now after the Olympics everyone works for themselves, otherwise why do figure skating?
On the other hand sometimes our system is harder on the coach - there is a kind of jealousy - you gave someone else more time than me, why?

ET: Marina gave Yulia a lot of compliments. Well deserved one. Yulia had changed a lot, she became an adult and overlooked a lot of things. It influenced the programmes of course. Every day she went through changes and was more open. She showed a new personality in the SP. She is playful, just like she wanted to be and it suits her. In her LP we went for a safe bet and picked a serious music. We had to integrate all the elements in a way that would be comfortable for her.

Urmanov interview with team-russia:

"- When moving from one coach to another first desire comes from the athlete - said Alexei Urmanov. - Julia have already encountered such a desire at the beginning of this year. At that time the leaders of Figure Skating Federation of Russia and the Ministry of Sports have made a tremendous effort to keep things as they are. Now, it seems to me, it is not necessary to discuss whether it was the right step. Today, the transition to a group Urmanova Lipnitskaya - a fait accompli. Consequently, and athlete, and her former coach understood that further cooperation is impossible. Our joint work with Julia has not yet begun. I have an understanding of the direction in which to move. I will not disclose the details. This is an internal kitchen, you need to know the coach and his pupil.

Lipnitskaya moved to Sochi?
- At the moment - yes. From Monday we begin to work on the rink that Julia familiar.

In the championship of Russia, it will already represent the Krasnodar region?
- This issue was not discussed. Today it is not a problem to which you want to focus on.

Develop new programs to start in Ekaterinburg, which in many ways will be decisive for your student to catch difficult. Do you see any need to make adjustments in the statement of the season?
- I see some things that need to be adjusted. Talk about some specifics is not quite appropriate. We're just not yet begun to work with Julia. We need to start somewhere, and in the process of working to determine what can be improved.

Over the last few years you have been in the shadows: without star students and media attention. We are ready for that now everything will turn 180 degrees?
- I have always been open to dialogue. I would like the reasons for it were positive. I would like to discuss the pleasant moments in working together, and not some associated negative factors.

Mom of your student Daniela Lipnitskaya plays a big role in the life of Julia, and in the Olympic season, even the number one of its coaches. Have you met her?
- This theme I even do not want to raise. With her mother Julia I am unfamiliar, but brought up in the tradition of St. Petersburg. To people used to be treated like human beings, and I hope that we will find common language with all who are interested in the success of the Olympic champion. Coach - is, first and foremost, a teacher. He works with the athlete, and all the rest should be his allies.

After the triumph in Sochi 15-year-old girl announced not just a hero of the country, but also some of its brand. Somehow, will collaborate with managers to untwist this image?
- We live in the XXI century, and the need to take its realities. Concepts such as "brand" and "public relations" have become part of our lives. Julia is not the first nor the last who have to pass the test of copper pipes and then be faced with psychological problems. Someone able to get out of this state and to move forward, someone this process is delayed for many years.

I think that Yulia needs help of a professional psychologist?
- I like the phrase: "Every person - himself a psychologist." On this basis, and try to solve problems. As they become available.

With the advent of the stellar student you will be able to pay attention to the rest of the skaters of the group or have assistants to invite?
- I have today have assistants. Neither coach is not able to work with a large number of students. Now we are working hard to make the team become even greater. Specific names is too early to call. "

Urmanov, coach and protector. Another plus.

So the notorious fed strikes again?

No. What he was referring to was that there were reports of Yulia wanting to switch coaches in January but the Fed mediated between Eteri and Yulia and ultimately Yulia stayed.

Edit:
Not just the Fed but the Minister of Sports, Mutko.

It's been more than ten months since the beginning of the year, the time she supposedly wanted to change coaches, so I could see how training almost an entire year with someone she didn't want to work with anymore might have affected her - or training in an environement that was not good for her. It's seemes clear to me that Yulia and Eteri parted on friendly-ish terms, but I think it also became obvious for the fed and the ministry, at last, that she was not really succeeding with Eteri anymore.

I think this change will be beneficial for her, unless she clashes with Urmanov badly, because she's been talking about doing her own choices from here onwards, so maybe her mom will become a non-issue. Ish. I just hope Yulia gets to shine her own star and find someone that can really help her do that.

Well, I have no idea if Urmanov is the best choice. I don't know him very well as a coach but I'm glad she moved.
