Yulia Lipnitskaya

Yesterday I've for an occasion turn on TV on a Russian cable channel, where they showed the record of last year lady's free programm at the Rostelecom Cup. And this young lady during her performance for a few minutes wasn't able to do anything with her leg. She understood that she failed her FP. She had to chose what to do: to finish everything right now and go to check what's wrong with her leg, or skate last fourty seconds, though it could make her leg worse. And when her coach asked her - Will you continue? - then she said without any doubt in her voice - I will. And she did it. She tried last jump, fell from it but did her best to finish it.

Of course, you've all must had saw those perfomance. I just want to say - that's so pity that her body is so hurted at this young age. She is so talanted. I hope that she recovered a bit during these months. And if her health is more or less OK, I think she will not give up.

It doesn't do any good to us to keep rehashing what ifs about Eteri, really. If she wants to stir this old stuff, let her. I think Yulia has moved on, and maybe is in the process of doing more than that. I think all of us in here have some idea about how much she paid for her success, and in the end it was her demise. Perhaps it's frustrating that she might never compete again, but if it's to actually live the life in a way she wants to, I want her to move away from all of this.

How do you know? I looked all over but haven't found any sources, what did I miss?

Nothing is official. I thought her and Alexei were supposed to meet last week for the first time since the hospitalization to discuss the next move. Hoping for the best :ghug:

Are Yulia and Evgenia friends?

Probably they don't care too much about each other but they had some friendly moments in past : https://www.instagram.com/p/BTj2WNUlJ0v/

Polina Shelepen and Yulia (after Polina left Eteri's group) both mentored Evgenia. Eteri promotes intra-group competition, which creates a positive environment as long as the competition is aimed at mastering something external that each competing member is trying to achieve. They challenge and help each other to accomplish a goal (e.g. some element) , they are not trying determine who is superior. In Yulia's case healthy competition became rivalry for many reasons, friendship was no longer possible.

Sam, I am actually encouraged that we have heard nothing. Yulia's is a very complex issue that has defied the conventinal brute-force solution, experience shows that just more training and improved skills aren't enough. It will take time for Y&A to formulate a comprehensive strategy, no doubt with the advice of others. I regard Alexei as an excellent partner for this challenge, he is intelligent, cool, caring and respects Yulia. They have had months to reflect and plenty to discuss. I think the longer we wait, within limits, the more promising the outcome.

I think her best performance ever was Euro's FS 2014. I remember live streaming it and actually jumping and running around the ice rink I was at when the scores came in :o:

I also think it's the happiest I recall seeing Eteri who always seems so reserved. I think Eteri always had a soft spot for Julia but who could blame her?

It's SP though. ;)
But yes, I've watched and listened to all Eteri's interviews very closely and I'm under impression that despite some harsh words, deep inside Eteri is hurt by departure of her beloved student.

It was truly great performance! I was watching with my dad, and he still asks me from time to time if Julia is skating, because he liked her so much then. He obviosuly has good taste in skaters
