Yuma skated to Sounds of Silence at the Japanese Dream ice show. He's changed the final spin from a change of direction to a change of foot in sit position to immediate upright camel - still extremely difficult but I miss the change of direction. Yuma plans to open his season at Lombardia Trophy - I could see him spending the next month in Italy working with Carolina. He shared that he took some time off the ice in July because he was dealing with "pain" in his body, but is healing up nicely now and has regained stability with his quads. It's so refreshing to see a skater listening to their body and taking time off when they need it, amd it obviously hasn't set him back any.

Again, contrary to popular opinion, I really like Sounds of Silence in all its iterations. But - the instrumental version and Yuma's skating was masterful. It's a great piece of music for him and he was a joy to watch. The competition between him and Ilia is going to be a pleasure to watch over the next few years.

The best skaters can go off the rails in a program and still take a title or get on the podium. Yuma will be fine again in no time.

Afterwards, he said the issues were mainly psychological - he felt very nervous before the program even started, and once he made the mistake on the flip, an error which he never makes in practice, and then had an issue on the sal, he started to spiral a bit. He was really hard on himself afterwards, apparently he cried a lot backstage and apologized profusely to the Helsinki audience for giving them a bad performance. I just want to give him a big hug. :( However, he does seem positive moving forwards and just wants to do his best at the Final, so hopefully he can turn it around and show us his Olympic medallist quality.

Love his FS step sequence. I wish someone could explain the scoring of this to me, so I understand how this was a Level 2.
