Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Nice interview with Brian. It just shows how he know understand Yuzuru even if Yuzuru don't understand Brian :laugh2:

He knows when Yuzu responds with his “Yeah”, that is the sign that he did not understand what he said

Just came back from the practices. I only went to the Ladies and Men Senior SP. Kovtun wasn't there, the others all were, though. Yuzuru Hanyu looked incredible, sigh. My mother remarked he did look a bit thin, well, I dunno, but definitely noticeable in comparison to the others. ;-) But he made some gorgeous jumps, and I am not an expert, but he seemed fine to me. Actually everybody seemed fine to me, grin. But Hanyu, lovely to see in real life!

I'm so jealous!!! Lucky you! Great to hear that he's fine :)

I want to be in Barcelona too :( Just one more day... :D :D

ahhhh so jealous of you and everyone else who are gonna watch him live, hope you will have the best time and i will go to the corner and cry

At last, he used three times of “God telling me” to present his mindset in different phases.
“When the accident of CoC happened, it was God telling me to take a rest.“
“If I did not qualify to GPF, it was God telling me to take more rest and prepare for Japan Nationals until late of December.”
“Now I can go to GPF, it is God telling me to overcome the challenges ahead me.”

thanks for link and translation:bow:

Yuzuru never fails to amaze me! :)

Sometimes I think the "it was God telling me to...." thinking is dangerous. To me, it's more about you have choices and you need to use your judgement and take the responsibility for your decision and action. But I am glad I can see Yuzuru compete at GPF, and I wish him have a satisfying competition.

@Meoima

Yes, that article was interesting to read.

My first thought was "Why, Weekly Gendai !? Exclusive!?" though. Honestly. Why not "NUMBER" or "Sportiva" ?

Anyway, it's nice the summarized translation has come out so quickly.

Mah I guess maybe Brian didn't know and think much about the magazine that interviewed him. After all he is not Japanese so he might not know which magazine has better reputation. ;) I don't think there's something misinformed in the article.

Still maybe the interview was done right after NHK and while Brian was still in Japan, so Brian and Yuzuru might talk cautiously. I guess Yuzuru's condition is much better now. We should worry less and stay positive (well actually I am talking to myself). :cheer: Let's try our best to enjoy Yuzuru's performances without thinking of the placement.

Aaaahhhh, lucky! Thank you so much for the updates, and do enjoy the competition! It's nice to hear that he seems fine, though honestly, he has been looking thinner lately.

Also, I really don't think he'll be in fine form at the GPF, and that's not really a bad thing since he has to conserve energy for Nationals. It would be nice to see him on the podium, but I think the most important thing is for him to get back into the rhythm of competitions and regain confidence on the ice, however imperfect his performances may be. It's a long shot for him to have excellent performances at this point (but in no way am I saying it's impossible! This Yuzuru, after all), but come what may, I want him to skate his best under the current circumstances and have a performance that he will be satisfied with.

Regarding Brian's interview, I agree with his point that Yuzuru must learn to say no. He can't skate in 50+ ice shows off-season, especially when they're situated in a country other than his training base. He has to choose carefully which shows and appearances to make. Found the anecdote about Yuzuru's "Yeah" funny -- it's a typical student's response, nodding the head when the teacher asks you if you understood the lesson even if you didn't.

Does anyone know if he's sticking to his original jump layouts for SP and FS, or to the "watered-down" (this I say with a bucket of salt) content?

It seems both Yuzuru and Brian have already prepared that he might not be 100% there. I hope for the best but I think Yuzuru's fans should prepare beforehand
He only needs to be halfway fit to win, or at least to put signifcant pressure on everyone else.
He also gets to skate first in the SP.

Nothing is ever certain of course - but I think he has as good a chance as anyone, if not better.
I like to think positive :-D

Lucky you! Did you see him do the Biellmann spin? From Kowamingo's twitter:

practice report from @CSSp4 (twitter):

SP: yuzuru is by far the fastest in stroking + stsq. he’s sticking to his 4T | 3A, 3Lz+3T. the sound of his blades is really beautiful
yuzuru cannot seem to do that Lz in his SP

javi was completely LOL JUMPS today
when (Mura’s) POTO played yuzuru practiced his FP too lol
yuzuru had a few weird 2S-pops (like NHK), but he did succeed a few 4S’s and they were really beautiful +3 GOE jumps
not sure what to feel about 3lz since he hasnt landed it this season yet, but i choose to be optimistic about it :cheer:

I honesty think that there is something in the timing of his short that makes it difficult for him to jump the lutz, IMO it's not a technical problem because in the free he hasn't had any particular problem with that jump...

I am still optimistic that Yuzuru will land on the podium in the GPF, if not win the event haha. I wish him the best of luck :)

yes thats what i was thinking also, not about the lutz itself but timing of it, and also entry of it
