Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Thank you so much channah (and to YesWay as well) for helping me clear this up. I am a rather new fan of Yuzu & FS (just started since Sochi) and I feel I have been asking very dumb questions since I joined the forum a couple of weeks ago. :o:

I have climbed a couple hundreds of pages back to get myself familiar to what people are talking about...still a long way to go!

Hello Sonora

I translated an interview where Yuzuru talked about the actions he does when he is getting ready to perform. (It's about 500 pages back.) It has nothing to do with religion even though it looks like he is making a cross sign.
He is actually trying to centre the vertical and horizontal axes in his body. He checks the line from shoulder to shoulder and then from head to waist. He says it helps him to be better balanced when standing on the ice. He has been asked many times about the cross action and his answer is always the same that this was something he was taught to do by a coach when he was a child and still does it to this day.

Hope this clears it up for you.

Sorry, probably a mistranslation on my part, in Dutch we would say black chocolate tea, but in fact it's black tea, chocolate, so black tea with dark chocolate chips in it. It's my fave drink. :-) I don't know if I'm going to see the practice today, I still have a long list of other shops I want to visit (yes, including another tea shop, grin).

I enjoyed seeing the men a lot yesterday, but one thing: please Yuzuru, never stop wearing your gorgeous flashy costumes. Because honestly, all those guys dressed in black at the training was a bit... Too black. I think Yuzu's outfit had a white line on there somewhere, but I am used to seeing him skate in pretty colors! It was a bit strange, hehe.

Me as well  I restart watching FS because of him (and Mao’s Sochi LP) They canged my life indeed.
It’s very exiting to read your lively posts, not only about skaters but also anything about Spain like black chocolate tea(a kind of cocoa? Just curious),
and I love paella the kind of delicious rice too ♥♥
Please continue to post often here as you can ( hoping mainly about Yuzu ;)).

Thanks for the updates everyone. Winnie, have a great time there! Barcelona itself is amazing.

Waiting for the GPF is driving me crazy. First I thought that this "time off" from watching figure skating would encourage me to finally get down to studying. Instead I've experienced a severe form of withdrawal syndrome.

If I'm not mistaken, Kovtun always skips the official practice session.

LOL! It's making me not study too much either! Which is kinda bad. I have a "final" today and two tests next week before I'm off for 5 weeks.

Thanks for the update! I'm glad he's going to do 3Lz2T. He really doesn't need a 3rd quad to win as long as he can have a clean skate, and doing a quad right now would be unwise anyway.

I'm completely swamped with Uni assignments and tests and highly doubt I'll meet all the deadlines. Can't focus on it at all. :bang: May the luck be with us

Obviously I was wrong about Max: (photo) Yuzuru and Maxim after the practice

Those videos made me smile. Thank you for the links! Count me in as someone who can't concentrate with Uni requirements. I have 2 graduate school papers due over the weekend plus student's grades have to be submitted too. Guess it is not just Yuzuru but everyone here needing some Gambarimashou!!! I will be heading for some dinner with friends tomorrow but I told them I have to do a Cinderella and rush home for the GPF

Practice reports from TV Asahi

Hanyu: Landed opening 4T, failed 3A and 3Lz-3T in the SP runthrough. Jumps were better overall after his runthrough.

Machida: in top form with his jumps. “This year I’m determined not to be overwhelmed in the competition. I’ll keep focusing on my skating.”

Mura: “My original plan was to do light practice but I ended up jumping quads after watching Hanyu. I guess it’s because I’m competitive.”

Hanyu seems to have bad influence on mura :laugh2:

Oh boy, I'll have to rush through my shower and try to get my hair done ASAP if I want to watch Yuzuru skate. But then again, I might be too nervous to watch him skate. Sigh.

Or maybe I'll watch the livestream WHILE I do my hair. Just got to make sure I'm not using the hair dryer when he's skating. :laugh2:

Who said Yuzuru had healed psychically at NHK surely had something against him. I highly doubt that Yuzuru's back in the top form at the moment: http://hanyuedits.tumblr.com/post/104935869197/yuzurus-post-nhk-trophy-interview-part-4-x
He felt much pain he intended to give up before NHK.
I remember British commendators said "thank you for being here", indeed I agree with him. Yuzuru has tried so much despite his condition.
At least at the moment he hardly feels pain (according to his words at Narita airport before GPF).
Best wishes for you Yuzuru. I know you will try your best wih your current condition. i have faith. Praying for your health.

Very interesting (and thought-provoking) interview with Matsuoka Shuzo.

Some thoughts:
1) It sounds like the doctors said to wait at least one week, but also wait until the physical pain lessens. But Yuzuru wanted to compete at NHK, so he returned to the ice while still in pain.

2) He made the decision to skate at CoC based on limited information. In retrospect, given the larger question on when/how athletes should compete while injured, and his own recovery, Yuzuru has some regrets. I'm actually glad to hear this. As in many situations, nothing is black and white. (Personally, I have a lot of gray in my own life!)

3) Impressed with Matsuoka as an interviewer. He seems to genuinely care about the athletes he interviews and is able to both respect and draw out interesting discussions. He himself experienced a very painful public injury, which resulted in changes to tennis rules, so can certainly empathize.

On another note: LOVE all the pictures and videos being posted. It's wonderful to see all the "boys" (including Maxim and Sergei) having fun with each other during practices. And how great is it to see Javi/Yuzu/BOrser together again? Brian sounds very relieved/happy with how Yuzu is doing during practices.

Super excited about the competition!
