The JOC only funded the selected athletes for the 2 years prior to the upcoming OG's. I dont think there hasn't been any news since the Olympics about any additional fundings.

That quad salchow is huge and amazing! That is the best one he had in the competition. I gotta say this performance was unexpected for me. I never dare think he could do so well in all these jumps except the lutz after NHK. I was amazed by the jumps every time I re-watch this program. I now think he should do more to refine the program to make it more beautiful and more phantom-like. Can't wait for next competition.
And for those fans who judge him, I really do not understand why someone wants to get the autograph of EVERY skater. I do feel sorry for the little cute girl because I was turned down by some my favorite host once and that really made me embarrassed in front of a lot of people. But I still think what the father should do is to tell his little daughter to respect others instead of criticizing some person he barely knows. Because once you've tried to know more about Yuzu you will know that he is the opposite of arrogant. It's just so unfair.

The skater hires the coach. The skater also pays the coach and all of his/her own training expenses. JSF has no power over Orser. That's how it works. Orser repeatedly said that he also has no contract with his skaters, so he gets no cut from their earnings.
But a federation of course, has power over its own skaters. Though Yuzuru's position is probably much more favourable than his colleagues.
The JOC Symbol Athlete thing was a one-year contract, and it was never said if he had renewed it or not. As it is, Yuzuru receives a certain amount from JSF, the same amount that all the top level skaters in Japan receive (there are several levels of funding etc. Yuzuru is in the top tier along with Machida, Mura, Kanako, Satoko etc). Apart from that, ANA was said to cover all his traning expenses -- which means for example coach, costumes, skates and blades (which I doubt he has to pay for anyway, but...), ice time when he needs it in Japan -- the full content of the contract was not disclosed though, so we have no way of knowing just how much they cover, but they did say basically everything in the press release of the contract, so.
Aside from that, there is the money Yuzuru earns from his placements during the ISU competitions, from shows, from the prizes he receives outside of skating (i.e. the Grand Prix of Japan prize he received very recently, the Sendai Sports Award etc.), there are other funding revenues (like from Kozuki Foundation, JOC funding which did not include only the Special Athlete thing but also funding he received previously as a young hopeful that allowed him to move to Canada in the first place etc.), there is the royalties from the DVD and photobook, the money he makes from his CM appearances and advertisement contracts...
I'm pretty sure JSF gets a cut over his earnings, though it is not known how much. The good thing is that he doesn't belong to a sports agency and so what's left goes all to him. And that's probably not a little amount (I hope for him, anyway).

You can tell a "pro" photographer, because they post photos of skaters during jumps and spins, when they're pulling really ugly faces, and the wobbly bits of their bodies are unpleasantly distorted
I try to show a little more respect, and only post photos that I think the skaters themselves would like...! :-D
Wow! These are professional quality pictures and you caught the most beautiful moments there. Thank you so much for sharing. We should give you an award or something for this!
So hopefully next summer we will see him in less ice shows ^_^
Anyways, I mention the funding only because I wonder if it made him feel more obligated to give back, yes that's my speculation only. Fact is, as he is one of the top skaters in Japan now, I won't be surprised JSF wants to maximize benefit they can get from him. Luckily there are many Japanese skaters with large fan base as well so hopefully this will allow Yuzu a more balanced summer schedule come next year.

Lololol I died when the people watching screamed "YES" at the salchow because I totally did the same thing and clapped excitedly when watching it live.

You are not taking into account Yuzuru´s love for shows... Yes I know that evil JSF is making him do shows, but he also likes to do them.
Hmm…I had the impression that JSF reached out to Orser for Yuzu’s new coach, so I mistakenly thought JSF hired Orser. Thanks for the information. Does ANA have a say on his appearance in the ice shows, since they are his sponsor?

But but but, in the recent interviews he seemed to have learn to tone down things a bit in accordance to his body condition. So let's hope that the adult Yuzu will now learn to pace things out a bit more

Having said that... this did remind me of the single one thing I really, really disliked about this event. Some people in the audience apparently think that because they have a cool photo camera that can be used without flash, they are entitled to annoy the HECK out of everybody around them. During the Dance free skate two people behind me were going picture-crazy with their ridiculously oversized cameras. I don't understand why that sort of thing is allowed in the audience. The noise those cameras make! Such loud clicks, and like in bursts, five per second if not more. It could very clearly be heard over the music and was totally distracting.
Thank goodness they decided to leave again before the Men's FS. I would have been extremely pissed off if it had ruined my enjoyment of Hanyu's skating.

You're pictures are AMAZING!
I absolutely agree - I think it's very inconsiderate, and that type of camera is banned at many events of this nature, for that reason.
I talked about that in my post in the Grand Prix Final board. I use something much quieter and more compact, and I wish the owners of those noisy clunkers would too. Furthermore, I think cameras should be confiscated at the door, if the owner is not able to demonstrate their ability to turn off the flash...
