Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

My friend in Japan has just told me Yuzuru will go to 4CC. It seems he will test his original layouts there.
We need a prayer circle for his body. :slink:

I like the idea of him going to 4CC, but I am scared that he is going to test his original layouts too. Oh well at least he is testing them, so there is a chance that he might actually perform it at worlds. Maybe doing the original layout for the SP will be enough to satisfy his inner dare devil risk taker self at worlds (wishful thinking) :drama:

He really wants gold medal from 4CC :) As he said - no more silver xD

Well, from now on it seems that all depends on him. When he skates clean, no one can beat him. When he was 4 falls or something he can still win. With >4 falls it becomes questionable:laugh:

Hopefully yes:laugh:
But I'd like to see a clean program (it was so close:laugh:) and with 3 quads it's going to be really difficult. But yeah...he's Yuzu...he can do it.

From the uber rainbow and butterfly positive perspective. It's one less 3Lz away from perfection

Am I the only one caring not even a bit for the amount of points he might got? Scores mean nothing nowadays for me, the rankings make absolutely no sense. I just want a memorable and well done performance. At least he's not insane to test the layout at Worlds, but It would be a dream if he actually decided to stick with the current layout and improve the performance, or at least bring back the eagle-3A-eagle because I live for this 3A :drama: Oh Yuzuru, your greed is going to kill me, or your knees before that

I am less concerned about another quad toe in FS than about lutzes

Maybe to build on his quad salchow succes in GPF he should do 2 quads SP , so he will take lutz out of the way :laugh2:

Personally, I'd rather see a smiling Yuzuru during a fall than a Yuzuru who settles for skating a clean program that doesn't push him enough (to his way of thinking).

A clean program means nothing to me, anyway; I can stand on figure skates for three minutes and call that my planned program and I could probably do that cleanly, but that's not exactly better than a Yuzuru Hanyu who falls on all his jumps.

Obviously Yuzuru loves pushing himself, and he just proved at the GPF he's in good enough condition to give it a try, at least.

Such great news that he'll be at 4CC, too!

You have more talent than I do, then! I do care about points and I would love for him to break records this season, but considering all he's been through this year I want him to take it slow and not over-exert himself. I was relieved to hear he won't go back to his original layout for Nationals and I think he can accomplish it in time for 4CC. Best of luck to him!

It's not only about doing it cleanly, i'm talking about improving the performance, if he does it and lands everything than even better though. It's quite frustrating to watch his run throughs and see lots of bits of choreo and see him holding every pose quite well to when actually watch the program while he's at "competition mode" and see that it's almost all gone  He has quite a habit to eat the choreo in free skates in order to land everything. I'm now forever replaying his free skate run throughs

Well, I can't say that I'm not excited about the possibility of a clean FS:laugh: I've been in the "THAT 4S" mood these days.
Don't worry about scores and records...when the program will be as good as he wants it to be, he'll break all the records.

"That 4S indeed!" It was a text book perfect jump. -Not eked out like the WC 4S was.
Hanyu's best jumps so far have been his 3A and 4T...and if he can add the 4S to that collection there will be no stopping him.

It's rare that a skater has both a brilliant 4T and brilliant 3A. Who else has it? I guess Vornov is actually quite consistent...but he telegraphs his jumps like crazy.
Machida and Mura have good ones.

Me too, it even had a running edge, that 4S :drama: For me records in the end are just numbers put together, i'm more interested in how is the final product than in how much supposedly it worths.

Here is my quick translation of Hanyu's FS from the Japanese broadcast which was delayed quiiiite a bit as the live was at 5 in the morning. -I wish they had shown it live.

Feel free to correct me if I got anything wrong. Sano Minoru, is a former figure skater...but I don't know who the other comentator is.
Sano Minoru and one other, I’m not sure who.
Commentator 1(he’s) at the top coming from the Short program. I would never have imagined this situation.
So much has happened, but he has scaled the wall.
Hanyu Yuzuru Phantom of the Opera
First Jump….
Both Commentators yell: KIMEMASHITA!!! (the literal translation is Decided, but it’s more like completed or successful)
Quadruple! First time he’s landed this this season and beautifully!
Commentator 1: One more Quadruple and this time the toe loop. Landed this one too!
Sano : What a man! Wow.
Commentator 1: Here’s the triple flip.
This is the flying change-foot spin.
2:50
Commentator 1: He said he always wanted to perform to the Phantom of the Opera.
And after becoming world champion, he’s doing it at last.
The lutz jump is to high-light the part where the Phantom expresses his grief.
Sano: Straight! Keep it straight!
This one also successful!
Commentator1: Triple axel triple toeloop. Triple axel going into a triple salchow 3 jump combo amazing. Triple loop. Triple lutz!
Fell on the last lutz!!
Despite that, the stadium can’t take their eyes away from Hanyu’s performance.
Flying change foot spin.
Performance ends:
Both Comentators together
Isn’t it amazing?? Listen to this! My….
How much stronger will this man get? Wow.
The last event of the Grand Prix Final, Men’s Singles-- the last performer Yuzuru Hanyu. The whole stadium is giving a standing ovation.
There are smiles in the audience and some tears.
All the people here know what’s happened to Hanyus-kun this season. To be able to do this at the final.
It’s been 1 year since the last season, the last final and he’s gone to the Olympics and Worlds. He’s come into this season very tired I’m sure in body and mind.
So many, many things have happened before this free.
Look at this Salchow. Quadruple jump. Yes, that was amazing. Next the toeloop. This season he hasn’t jumped a quad this whole season until the final.
Oh, he has jumped it, but he hasn’t landed any. But to jump them so easily now…
The challenger Hanyu has come back after NHK.
This lutz… he has to do it. It’s ok that he fell. For the next step. I’d like to think so. This will make him stronger for the future. He’ll challenge it again. I think he should always be a challenger.
His smile has come back at last. Here are the scores.
194.08!!! A personal best score after overcoming so many hardships. Hanyu Yuzuru Grand prix final GOLD MEDALIST! (Yelling quite enthusiastically)
First Japanese man to win 2 in a row. More than that, more than anything, this shows his strength to the world. Hanyu Gold, Fernandez Silver and Vornov Bronze. Mura 5th, Machida 6th this is the result of the Men’s singles.
