Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

I enjoy your blogs a lot. By the way, is there a typo in this sentence “I think Shoma is a little bit star struck around Yuzu but who can blame him”? You wrote this in the Sota Yamamoto’s paragraph. So maybe you mean Sota?

I think Yuzuru’s main competitions in 2018 are most likely skaters in his age group (19-21), like Denis Ten, Joshua Farris, Han Yan and Kovtun. If they improve and gains consistency, they will pose a challenge to Yuzuru.

Patrick and Javi may be too old to keep up with the technical demand by 2018.

I feel none of the current juniors or the juniors that just moved up to seniors has the technical prowess to challenge the senior skaters. Since the juniors are not likely to get very high PCS, they need to rely on the technical scores. Unless they are prodigies like Yuzuru and Plushenko, I think the possibility of them catching up to Yuzuru by 2018 is pretty small. But you never know. Out of the current juniors, I think Shoma and Jin Boyang probably have a bigger chance to catch up in 3 years.

My 2 cents.

Thanks for pointing out the Shoma/Sota goof up in that sentence….I fixed it up!! :)

I agree with you on the age group…but then I also think that 3 years prior to 2014 - Yuzu was only 16 years old himself…and yes, he was a prodigy!!! :) So, anyone in the 17-18 year old range…depending on the next year or two…could surprise us. I don't think so…but hey, you never know. That's why I want to update that post each year (i.e.: write it up again) and compare my opinion from one year to the next while each of these skaters develops. I haven't watched Jin Boyang enough to really get a good handle on him yet…so maybe next season I may comment on him.

I agree, Patrick and Javi may be too old by then….but, again, you never know with skating - look at Plushy. He who stays the healthiest has a shot at it. Maybe the young "kids" have an off SP, and open the door to "consistency"….that's the fun and stress of this all for both the skaters and us, as fans! Thanks for the comments, really appreciate them!! And, thanks for reading my blog!! :)

I would love to see him in bathtub if he were healthy as hell.
but I now don’t. I think it’s not good to soak the operation trace of his abdomen in warm water for a long time. (I know it sounds like a worrying mother )

I thought about that as well. So the CM can feature Yuzu taking off his shirt and walking towards the bathtub instead of him inside it. ;)

Knowing him to be a video games lover, I remember the funny moment of a young boy Yuzu, in ICE 2012, While team Japan were playing a video game together,
He shouted by very fast talking when he saw Mao lost the game against Kanako, he said “Sanbonshoubu, Sanbonshoubu, Sanbonshoubudakara (it’s a three-game match)” lolol
He is going to be so eager when it comes to video games :laugh2:

LOL. By the way, What is a three-game-match?

But please gawd I'll take him shirtless than in Xylitol White kind of costume
the things we'd endure if only to avoid looking at horrible costumes :drama: but I'm sure it would be worth it. Ehm, I mean, I'm sure we'd be able to handle it. Of course. What else would I mean (some day I'll go straight to hell for all this  )

He's telling himself. "JUMP!" (Tobe) or "I will jump!" (Tobu)

Thank you !
I admire Yuzuru not only as a skater but his determination to fight is outstanding.
At his FP at Cup of China he fully rotated almost all his jumps (accordind to the jury) after the scary crash. And he had the power to smile. I think that is a lesson of life.
Watch his official results :

And this remind me of FP at World 2013 when he fight with all his health issues.
Because of that I am sure that Yuzuru don't give up to fight at Worlds 2015 and I will admire him no matter of his results.

Welcome. Yuzuru is very blessed with so many supportive fans.

Thank you!
He deserve to have so many fans . He had a dream since he was child , and he won't give up until the Olypics 2018. After that I don't know, but I am sure whatever he will do , he will do his best as always.

As much as I am worried about Yuzu and his staying in Japan at the moment, I chose to think positively that he knows what is best for him after experiencing a lot of learning opportunities this season. If he competes at WC then the only thing I'll expect is that he'll give his best given his current state and hope that he'll enjoy it.

I told my sister that Yuzu gave me so much anxious moments this season than Dai ever did but the lessons he taught me paid for it. Anyways, I think I'll try the Yuzu fan relaxation method, I just have to look for yuzu around town.

I also want to join the quiz, so mine is: Why did Yuzu/Nanami pick Scriabin's Étude in D-sharp minor, Op. 8 No. 12 for his 2011-2012 SP?

Those jumps were beautiful and daringly forceful right up until their landings. He must have been going into those jumps knowing that he was going to crash at the end, incurring more pain and possible injury on an already battered body all the while not really sure if he would have energy to get up and continue afterward. He never gave up, still risking everything, not holding back, his spirit driving and over-riding his body. Everything was taken down to the bare bones. No room for his usual etheral enchantment with the audience; it was his spirit and body, the two active forces dwarfing all others within the arena. The audience was there but not there, so primal was that skate. Although I personally can’t bring myself to watch that skate again, I will always remember it for the reasons you point out. Truly, he does have an amazing spirit. And I so agree. He is to be admired no matter of his results.

Or this perfect for Yuzu's comical side :laugh2: . Looking at previous CM it can be either a bath scene, comical or athletic.

But please gawd I'll take him shirtless than in Xylitol White kind of costume

We (girl students and I) were also talking about whether Yuzuru's bath scene on CM is OK or not, yesterday.
Curiously, we all got the same feeling about it:
'His shoulders shown above a bathtub' is OK/welcome, but 'exposing his whole upper body' is embarrassing, somehow.
If some other good looking male athletes are half-naked like in swimming trunks, we don't have any kind of embarrassment at all, or rather feel they're cool because of their torsos.
But in Yuzuru's case, his looks and gestures are too feminie/neutral when he isn't on ice, so we feel watching his naked upper body on CM is sort of violating a taboo. We all said, "No! No way!"
What do you think?

He is not feminine at all: https://vine.co/v/OUXHIM2had9.

And I am sure his body is much stronger now than in 2012.

I agree with you. I hope he'll enjoy the competition as always. He said that in the past he hates practicing but he love the competitions.
And of course he taught us lessons of life . Don't forget about the earthquake and tsunami when he had only 16 years. And his compassion for the people who suffered. I heard that he gave much money after Sochi to help people of Sendai. And he always said that he wants to give something back to all the people who support him to be what he is . Congratulation to Yuzuru for his beatiful soul !

Correct! The disaster was the inspiration for the music and costume. Op 8 No 12

Next, according to Aoi Honou; who does Yuzu think is the skater who is like PChan once he gets a 3A and quad?
