Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Am I the only one who hasn't watched this FS? I've only watched some bits but I can't get myself to watch the whole thing
The livestream was running so swimmingly that day, so I had to witness all that freeskate with horror and I couldn't do anything at all. I couldn't turn my eyes away from him despite feeling so scared to see him like that. When Yuzuru's in the competitive mood, it's like he's driven by some invisible force. I couldn't bring myself to rewatch that skate again, but seriously that was both inspiring and painful at the same time. :hopelessness: our boy is just too special.

Don't know if the JSF lady (Sorry I couldn't remember her name even if I tried to some times) will go to Sendai today (in Japan time). Hope everything goes well!

I would love to see him in bathtub if he were healthy as hell.
but I now don’t. I think it’s not good to soak the operation trace of his abdomen in warm water for a long time. (I know it sounds like a worrying mother )

Knowing him to be a video games lover, I remember the funny moment of a young boy Yuzu, in ICE 2012, While team Japan were playing a video game together,
He shouted by very fast talking when he saw Mao lost the game against Kanako, he said “Sanbonshoubu, Sanbonshoubu, Sanbonshoubudakara (it’s a three-game match)” lolol
He is going to be so eager when it comes to video games :laugh2:

Wow, do you have the link to this video? Many thanks! It sounds so much fun!

Oh yes! And his signature once also has a mushroom with wings and skating boots :D (the one he uses now doesn't have a mushroom anymore, at least I can't see any: )

His old one also has the Japanese flag and JPN under the mushroom  So creative to fit so many things that represent him in a single signature lol

I wouldn't count Patrick or Javi out just yet. Both are very talented, especially Patrick, and both want Olympic gold. I think it will be a huge challenge for either of them to beat Yuzu, but as the saying goes, "ice is slippery" so you never know.
I don’t disagree. I hope I am not offending anyone by saying this. But for some reason, I find Patrick to be a well trained jumper, rather than a natural jumper. I actually think Javi is a more natural jumper than Patrick. Patrick relies on his technique to jump, but Javi replies more on his natural jumping ability to jump. (IMO, natural jumpers are people who have spring in their legs and do not need much setup to jump. They can jump pretty high and far even from stand still.) I think for natural jumpers, their jumps stay with them even when they age or reach puberty. But if you are not a natural jumper, then you need very good technique to jump well. When you age, lose stamina or suffer injuries, it becomes harder to execute the techniques. So maybe Javi will be more consistent with his jumps at the age of 26 or 27 than Patrick. (Pure speculation) I think both Javi and Patrick will be Yuzuru’s rivals for the next 1 or 2 years, but I am just not sure if they will be his main rivals in the Olympic season. I thought the younger skaters will take over. But you never know.

Just an observation here, I find girls that struggle with puberty are usually girls who are not natural jumpers. Girls who are natural big jumpers (even with less than perfect techniques) usually will survive puberty. (They may struggle when their body grows, but their jumps stay with them, e.g. Liza, Adelina, Gracie, Anna) The other girls often end up losing their jumps when they reach puberty.

Woah, I like where this comment and discussion about the future (2018) is going! The ice sure is slippery because we don't know what's going to happen 3 years from now. It's quite exciting to predict isn't it?

As someone posted in a previous comment, the 16-18 year olds right now sprouting from their junior years look promising. They can improve a lot within a few years if they have good conditions, the drive, and determination. I think that's the main reason Yuzuru is pushing his technical content in his programs, however I hope he stays healthy first and then take it slowly since there's still time.

For skaters older than Yuzuru such as Patrick and Javier, I feel they do have a chance to skate by 2018 (perhaps very well too). Patrick seems determined enough to break the Canadian curse and Javi doesn't seem like he wants to retire any time soon. For Denis he's just about one year older than Yuzu, so he will probably continue to improve and challenge the current top guy. But who knows, I hope all the best for these skaters aiming for one goal!

I do think he needs to up his technical content if he wants to win in 2018. I think he knows that he cannot expect to win with the same layout at the next Olympic. But for now, his health comes first.

I wish to see this carefree Yuzuru at WC again: http://yuzuwalkways.tumblr.com/post/111815312005/yuzuru-hanyu-pre-post-contest-jitters-moments
I miss him theses days. Anyone notice ever since the beginning of Olympic season, he rarely shows this side? This season I only see him smile like that at GPF. At Nationals it was so stressful for hiim, because of the fatigue, the pain in his stomach, not to mention the media attention.

How much stress has changed a person... Sigh... To be frankly, I think he might have crumbled because of stress at CoC if it were not for that collision. At CoC, I don't think he would have a very terrible skate if the accident didn't happen, still the skate might have been trouble like at NHK. i think that collision and the terrible skate at NHK helped fueling his will to overcome this season IMO. After all, all those challenges are factors have been helping him become stronger, at least mentally.
Still... He has paid so much, so the long rest might be useful for him somehow, no need to rush to Toronto if his health hasn't fully healed.

With his condition, I don't hope for the very best result at WC, but at least I hope he will be carefree like the old days.

Yep, the stress from the expectation of JSF, sponsors, coach, fans, country, ice shows organisers, media, himself plus competitions, collision, injuries and health issues does take its tolls. He has not had a rest since the Olympic. He deserves a good long rest to recover fully....I hope he is rested from doing the summer ice shows.

If they make him do summer shows, then we shall send petitions to stop them.

I completely agree with this. I seriously thought he was going to fall apart when he was on ice during his SP...he looked pretty out of it tbh. Probably would have done enough for the podium unlike NHK though. Like they say, every cloud has a silver lining...

It was deleted but I found some pieces :)

So alia and pamina, I think you girls like this
I am loving it.
I wonder is he Yuzuru?
The falls look painful but how beautiful these(well) landed jumps are.

Oh yes! And his signature once also has a mushroom with wings and skating boots :D (the one he uses now doesn't have a mushroom anymore, at least I can't see any: )

His mushroom signature is too cute *hugs*

Baby Hanyu VS Baby Hino
Sooo cute.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MojGIhD3Hts

It's interesting how Hanyu's rivals change so much.

In the novice era, there was Ryuju, then in the Juniors it was Machida and Kento, then in the Seniors it was Daisuke and Kozuka,
Then Patrick Chan and Fernandez. Then Machida again.

Now...Denis Ten?

It's not like he is unbeatable...many people place higher than him at various times. But every time he's beaten, his competitive fire burns brighter.

now that you have mentiomed it, maybe you're right! it does look like a mushroom? His signature is so difficult to sign that I wonder how long would it take for him to sign for each fan.

It would also probably take him ages to sign official documents which usually require people to sign in more than one places :)

Yeah, obviously if the collision hadn't happened, I still think he would have done enough to get on podium at both NHK and CoC and got into GPF seamlessly but he might have had more disappointing performances than he did at GPF and Nationals.

The collision and that 4th place at NHK might be something like gifts in disguise for his mentality (not for his physical health, of course), like some catalyst for his competitive will. Ever since those days, he has been more driven to complete this season IMO.

Anyways I don't know how to say this, but anyone notice he also placed 4th at NHK 2010, his first senior season? It's like he has been back to where he started and is climbing back again, maybe Yuzuru's pattern of reaching the top is truly a thing.

Nice observation! I certainly hope that it's the case! Go yuzuru!
