Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Pamina - I'm so glad to hear you are having a wonderful time and enjoying FINALLY seeing Yuzuru live! I remember how disappointed you were when he withdrew from Finlandia.

Thank you :) I kept freaking out after COC because I just knew that it was going to happen again. I'm having a blast here, not just because of him but...... ok, not going to lie, mainly because of him

+1. And the entire audience agreed, I think. Even the Japanese all around me, which I thought was really nice of them. :-)
If we ever manage to go to a skating event in Japan we might be too busy gushing over the fans to watch the skaters  the girls around are seriously great.

And my TV just decided to play a song called "you're never fully dressed without a smile" perfect

ohh my, where to start, i was gonna write on gpf thread but it feels hostile there sometimes with all that overscoring etc, no matter how some of the fans explaining the scoring element by element regardless of their personal opinion, if someone doesnt want to listen there is no point to try i guess, they are gonna disagree no matter what you say so better to write at more friendly place

anyway omg what a wonderful geniune smile after he skated ( even during the program after fall till the end) he knew it wasnt perfect (obviously) but it was great comeback and confidence boost moving forward, seeing him so happy after all thats happened this season is amazing, i couldnt stop laughing and smiling myself, i am guessing all of you felt the same, ohh and that stare at the judges after 4T is like "i am gonna get revenge and you will see"

and the program is just amazing, Jeff and Yuzu feels like dream team, they understand eachother and what they want to show, but i want Stephane to make one program for him too, that would be awesome  and finally i am really very jealous of you watching him live and wish you enjoy more and more

Pamina and Winnie_20: I can tell the audience is very enthusiastic about this competition, but in general are they warm and welcoming to all the skaters and fans? After the booing, I feel like they're the kind of audience that would riot in front a judge's house and end up toilet papering their front yard.

Hey Pamina, we were just on Spanish television. ;-) TVe showed a sports roundup and they showed Javi, and those Spanish gals behind us with the bambam posters.
I'm also checking the newspapers again, yesterday one had some stuff about the opening ceremony. I want Spanish / Catalan Yuzuru news!

Did you record it? There is a fan from FB group that was caught on camera as she seated closed to K&C and also some others fans that posted video and update from the venue itself...it was awesome as they keep the rest of us who are there virtually update :cheer:

Idk but I would have given him higher PCS.

I would not complain.

I would have to disagree on Voronov. He was really lacking in the PCS department so I think his scores were about right. The only person I'm annoyed about is Kovtun. How on earth does he deserve that kind of pcs

That's what I meant though. If you give Kovtun 42, why Voronov 38?
So in relation to that he did deserve better PCS, or don't give Kovtun those scores, plus some more positive GoE's on TES. They "saved" Kovtun though, because practically he had no GoE's at all.

Agree, I thought Voronov deserved a higher score. Even if it's not related with Yuzuru, people in other threads are actually dragging him into it :disapp: Like can't anyone ever support their favorite skaters without stripping another skater's worth? :confused2:

They can't, apparently, so let them rant. ;)

Oh no  you keep checking

They just might  but I guess that just shows how much they care about all the skaters even if they're not their favorites. They really show appreciation for everyone here. (Kovtun might have felt a little left out during practice yesterday. He kept jumping like a manic and nobody seemed to notice or care. But during the competition people were just as nice towards him as they were towards all the others.)

And all the fans around us are super awesome  told you I won't be able to stop gushing over the Japanese (but the Spanish gals are fun, too ;)

Yup! this is a great place to be, bursting with positive energy and encouragement....and where the writing will be more appreciated :agree: And we can get this thread to 1000pages sooner

Yes I suppose that's true. I don't really feel Voronov but anyone with eyes can probably see that Voronov >>> Kovtun. Let's face it, the only thing he has going for him is his ability to do his quads, and even then his hunched posture going into those jumps is unsightly.

No, I was too busy getting dressed and suddenly saw Javier Fernandez from the corner of my eye, and then saw the bam bam poster group and spotted us in the shot.
El Periodico has a (imho rather bad) photo of Fernandez and mentions Yuzu and Machida leading.

Ditto about Kovtun, he was a madhouse in practice but nobody paid much attention, I thought. Sad. And Voronov was wonderful last night, he really hits my feel good button. Lovely smile during the skate...

But Yuzu smiling was so wonderful!!! Hearts! Hope to see more of it today, please!

^^ but I'm glad to hear you guys have an awesome time...we equally happy :hb::party2:
My ipad hates the hotel wifi so am doing all this on an ipod touch. I cannot wait to have access to my computer so I can more easily browse all the videos of last night and enjoy more Yuzu goodness!

You guys have no idea how many versions of that SP I'm downloading right now. It wasn't perfect but like many have said, it's like he didn't even fall at all. His quick recovery from that mistake and straight to his step sequence seal the deal. I'm proud of him, he's back. I won't have a say in his score because I'm still not familiar with this scoring system, but I do agree that other skaters did deserve higher scores (but not in placements though).

Hahaha, same! I saved a bunch of different versions of his SP as well!! I'm really happy that Yuzu did so well in the SP and hopefully this 'back' mode continues until the FS. ;)

Actually I was scared to check for updates on the isu website because I had a nightmare last night that I looked up the results the next morning and found out that he got 8th place!!  (there aren't even 8 skaters competing in the men's field of the GPF! there are only 2 more skaters as replacements ...)

I guess nightmares prove to be very, very false. :agree: Also, having a day between the SP and the FS is beneficial for the skaters for sure. They can rest properly for a day, breathe and prepare for the second part of the competition. Why can't all competitions have that kind of schedule?

Yay so glad yuzu did so well. He only did one 3lz-3t 3a and 4t during warm up, but they were all clean. When it was his turn to skate, boy was I so nervous. His 4t and 3a were just outstanding. There was a partial standing ovation for him and I was standing of course. The crowd was very encouraging for all skaters. There were so many japanese fans there also. So glad for him! I'll be throwing a pooh bear later today :p. And guess what I managed to catch him on his way back to his hotel! Ah he looked so stressed with all the attention! Poor thing :( and it was partially my fault for being there haha.

Awww, poor Kovtun. He may not be the underdog among his fellow skaters, but he's definitely one here in these threads (kinda makes me want to cheer him on too). It's nice to hear everyone is supportive of other skaters. The booing just really threw me off. I usually expect the audience to somewhat be well-mannered since figure skating is such a graceful sport-- but nonetheless, the booing made sense. Hope you and Winnie enjoy your time there! Make it memorable!

It was a pretty good performance, who wouldn't want to save that? :agree: And despite the mistake, I can finally enjoy his SP! I don't have to rely on the COC or NHK performances anymore  I'm proud to say I downloaded other performances by Yuzuru, but in different commentaries. It's always nice to hear commentators from all over the world cheering him on, even if I don't understand what they're saying, the excitement in their voices tells me they absolutely adore him.

Thanks for sharing DarR. Love hearing first-hand accounts of Yuzuru's skates and encounters with him. :)

Thanks also to those who posted links, updates, and thoughts. It's a good time for us Yuzuru fans to see him come back after one of the most trying moments in his career.

Sharing this link on how Yuzuru and Tatsuki "meet the press." Yuzuru apparently takes after his teacher dad. ;)

A whole flock of journalists from his country (plus one from the Western Hemisphere, if I may) gathered in the mixed zone for 2014 Olympic and world gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu after his practice. Each one had the right to ask one question. Hanyu answered while staring each one in the eyes, as if he were a teacher. Journalists were writing down his words, as if they were his pupils, respectfully nodding their heads and smiling.

wow i love how they described him, he is also like that on ice, so commanding, you have no choice but watch him  thanks for sharing

such a fun read, esp the end of it
And the skaters' best friend is…
In the first hours of any international skating event, you will find a happy man in the corridors of the arena. His name is David Carmichael, an accredited photographer. Each skater comes and gives him a big hug up front. He holds a stack of CDs in his hand and gives one to each skater or team -- and even to officials. "I make sure that everyone gets the photos from his last outing," Carmichael explained. "Before this Final, I have prepared 24 CDs, plus four for the ISU officials. It's nice to see the big grin on their face!" he added, smiling. "That's what we're here for: the skaters! Can you believe that I have 14 trips planned this year?" Carmichael concluded with a broad smile. Machida grabbed his CD (after a hug) and gave it to his coach, who piled it onto other CDs he was carrying. Beware not to mix Carmichael's photo CD with Ludwig von Beethoven's ninth symphony CD (Machida's free program), however!

:laugh2:

icenetwork article after SP last night

"I was so surprised during the six-minute warmup, as the crowd was so supportive of Javier [Fernández], and I felt like [I was] away," Hanyu said laughingly. "I was happy with my skate. When I did NHK [Trophy] and [Cup of China], I could not just do it and focus for the competition. But today, I felt very comfortable and relaxed and concentrated for the competition."

poor guy must have felt left out haha
