I thought he had a cellphone?? If not, that's really... For someone who trains in a foreign country and whose English needs improvement, it's troublesome for him not to have one, I would think.

He's been spotted with cell phones many times, including the recent DVD of his. I think this is a common theme that is used by the Japanese media to emphasize how narrowly focussed Yuzuru is. I would not take it seriously. The press here in Japan, particularly the entertainment press, is not held to a very high standard for truthfulness - but then again, that's seems to be true more and more all over these days.

Yuzuru said something like he hoped that he would want to have a cellphone as Christmas gift. :shocked: My friend said from this interview, he wanted a cellphone to get in touch with his friends because apparently he only had ipod. :shocked: I mean seriously what about the Samsung galaxy he had received at Sochi? He hasn't had a cellphone until now????????????

he is a docomo cellphone user, isn’t he? About the gossip magazine. I consider them as a liar.

Sometimes they do invent things, but more often, the are given talking points by the interviewees publicists and if they don't get to it during the interview, they just add it from the notes. I've seen it happen in sports (outside of skating) and talento. Or they recycle stuff from older interviews and bio pieces. It's crazy.

It's true that he has never had a cellphone. (well he probably used one during his stay in Sochi) He used to say that he didn't have one because he might have spent too much time if he had one. I suppose that was his parents' mind too though.
In the interview held in NHK, I heard him say that he would like to have one when he thinks he is matured enough and capable of controlling its use, so maybe he now thinks so as he became 20.

But, this magazine is a sort of gossip magazine, so I'm not sure whether we should trust this...

I checked the NHK interview but I couldn't find where he said he would want one, so maybe it was my misunderstanding!
It's quite sure that he didn't have one until last season though.

Gossip magazine are known to invent things to increase readership and catch people's attention; I'm sure the headline that includes his name would make many fans of his stop and read the magazine...Japanese media is somehow trying to make he sound focused at winning and at the same time very protected by his mother I think.

I think during Sochi it was said that they use "LINE" to communicate between the Japanese teammates, and if I'm correct that is an App you can use on iPad too. We've all seen pictures of him with his iPad, so he definitely doesn't need an actual phone to communicate with his friends. As with other topics, I intend to believe it when I actually hear him say it instead from a source. Just the nature of reporting these days.

thanks!! regarding cbc vs nbc, yes cbc got some facts wrong but i dont think it was intentional, yes its expected of them to be professionals but it happens, i dont mind it so much as long as they dont repeat it again, we know BESP commentators loves hanyu and they still misspell his name everytime at least when cbc praised him i felt like they actually meant it, listening to nbc they said all nice things but i didnt believe them, maybe because they already knew the results, they commmented on recorded version and not live, also bringing patrick's name didnt bother me that much, since there are noone else to compare yuzuru with besides even though he isnt competing this season he didnt retire. they still recognised his improvement i think, i wonder what they would think comparing 20 yo patrick vs 20 yo yuzuru

Regarding the cellphone thing, every athlethe that partecipated in the Sochi Olympic Games got a Samsung galaxy note with a personalised cover with their country flag from Samsung (wich was an official sponsor for the games) so even if yuzu hadn't a cellphone before that time now he at least has that one

Yuzu keeps in touch with his team mates on LINE. Oda-san mentioned it several times in interviews, like they have this chat groups to arrange get-together and Yuzu gave him advice on variety shows. Yuzu has an i-pad and i-touch, so he can use LINE of course.

I read an article today which says Yuzuru still has only iPod, and he does text messaging by that, and the Samsung one was available only during the olympic event in Sochi.

EDIT: The article said "iPod", but, is it "iPad"? I'm not sure.
