Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Maybe JSF doesn't want him to experience his first senior competition at Worlds, which would be too risky even if he's very consistent, since succes at junior circuit doesn't translate exactly to seniors, especially with PCS scores, even if his JGPF results were very competitive at seniors. And they want him first to win Junior Worlds and after build some international senior success first, like Yuzuru did for example. For this, 4CC is a much "safer" senior debut.

Thank you Nemorml! It makes sense!! :agree:

I hope it's just due to some improper Spanish food, nothing more serious:hopelessness:

Oh! The only Spanish food I know is paella! Very delicious!!

I have a book with me that's a guide about symptoms, illnesses and surgeries. I looked up food poisoning in it and I would say it's pretty unlikely. It says symptoms can start within hours or days of eating the food. It's been over 2 weeks since the GPF. 2 weeks does not mean days. Plus it says most cases clear up within a few days.

I hope it's nothing serious either. But from what I read, it's probably not food poisoning.

I don't think it's food poisoning too! I had it once and I couldn't stay away from the bathroom...:slink:
Maybe it is gastritis.
I hope he get well soon!

I hope that our fellow Yuzuru fans from Japan kindly update us soon about his state of health. Praying that all will be well with him.

Nikkan Sports reported today that the painkillers he took after CoC accident might have damaged his stomach and thought to be one of the causes.

But it is not confirmed yet. We have to wait for the official report :ohwell:

Excessive dosing of painkillers can cause ulcers (which can also be caused by stress :frown:)...I see cases like that often where patients take too much asprin or ibuprofen and develop them which can cause severe pain. Good news is that it can be treated and if given enough time to heal, is not too serious. But he is really young too young to be having such problems, hes only 20!!! Its his body's way of saying SLOW DOWN.

It has been mentioned before that also besides asthma, Hanyu struggles with eating...it is a medical condition that can make it difficult for him to eat properly. Under stress it can cause abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. This is only speculation, no official report, but one possible explanation. If he lost weight recently from not being able to eat well, this can be a reason. It is a condition that can be treated with correct and careful diet and medication...if it is this, with rest and care he should recover soon.

Other people have mentioned it can be from the CoC accident, which is also possibility. :/ I am at home with news on today, so I will post if I hear anything official!

Thank you :)

I hope he is ok. It said on TV that he's been having it on and off since GPF and in the short he was ok but after the long you can see him holding his stomach and couldn't pick up flowers like the day before.

@Nenmorl, I agree with you and great post! I don't mind reading someone else's thoughts about Machida because it's really too bad he retired ...  I honestly liked his rivalry with Yuzuru; they both compliment each other in terms of skating and it was always exciting to anticipate who'll skate the best out of the two (because he is someone who could beat Yuzu). But now it's not about who'll skate better, it's about the respect for Machida as a skater. I wish he didn't chose to retire just at this moment, maybe after the Worlds next year? That's just my opinion. I was looking forward to how Machida would skate at Worlds 2015 since he was so determined to win from his previous interview at Worlds 2014.

Hopefully Patrick will come back next season to even out the men's field, please don't retire Patrick!

Haha. During the NHK trophy, I set my alarm to 7:30 am my time to check the results for the SP and FP for mens. BOTH times I woke up 10 minutes before my alarm and had the urge to go and check the results.

Sometimes I feel like I have an internal alarm clock in some situations.

Honestly, the same thing happens to me. I always try to sleep/do something else when the competition is ongoing, but somehow I almost always wake up/finish what I'm doing right when the skaters I'm cheering for take the ice!? I do not understand this, I feel like my brain has some kind of panic button as it knows instinctively when to alert my systems (and nerves).

Thank you for the information. 😊

Seriously, this kid is too young to be experiencing these problems/health issues. Hoping whatever it is, isn't too serious, and that the reports will come out soon. Praying for him to recover well from his injuries, he has at least three months to put things together.

I'm sure he can do it! He will always be the Challenger. I think is good name for him. :) :) Since he was young he always faced these challenges, and I think they are why he is so strong. Because of these things he inspires us too. But also it is difficult for us fans to watch :hopelessness:

With so much happening I sometimes forget the Olympics was this year!! Just me?? ;)

I have no sources or what not, but for some reason I think Patrick will come back. I haven't heard about how his studies are going or anything regarding future plans. I guess we might hear something after Canadian Nationals. I like Nam but having seen his programs live, if he indeed goes on top of the podium for Canadian Men then...:slink:

I think it is too early to speculate about who his rivala will be for the next Olympic Gold, which has been the goal, quoted both by Hanyu-san himself and Orser. When Patrick was dominating I think only a few handful were on the Hanyu-radar at the time. A lot can happen in a few years as we've seen. Shoma only really acquired the quad and stabilized the 3A this summer, and he has become quite a competitor.

Is there a possibility he will sit next season out? Just to really take care of his body? If you had asked me before this GP season, I would give you a definitely no since I know how the kid loves competition and would love every chance to show what he can do. But now, I am not so sure. Yuna had done it and come back.

Same here, the Olympics seem sooo long ago  About next season, I think there's a big possibility that he'll sit out (just my opinion, BTW). I mean, he was even planning to sit out this season, if I remember correctly. Either way, I'll be satisfied with his decision, as he knows his body and condition best. I also think a lot depends on how much he can recover between now and Worlds.

Please be well, Yuzuru. A big thank you to the Japanese speakers who are keeping track of this story, so the rest of us could know.

I have to respectfully disagree with you. I think only serious injury (god forbid) would keep Yuzu out for a season. This guy loves to compete and skating is his life right now. Also, he's mentioned that there are always junior skaters coming up through the ranks that might challenge him. I do think the problem is he didn't take any time off after Sochi and was left exhausted after all the shows, commercials and personal appearances. Hopefully he's learned from this and the JSF will leave him alone to rest and recharge for next season.

It only became a possibility to me as he said in an interview that he thought about sitting the current season out. I can't remember if his back injury was the factor or just overall fatigue over the summer, but the thought did cross his mind. I have no idea what would be better for him and is in no way trying to say he should do this or that, because this is his life after all and he should be the one making all the decisions. I guess in a way I am trying to prepare myself mentally if he does sit out next season...(and I already bought tickets to Boston Worlds! :p, not to only see him of course but would be a great disappointment if I don't get to see him there)

What does it mean in English? Sorry.

From the Kanji i can read, it is about Machida-san's sudden( 突然)retirement announcement(引退宣言)。
I feel it is awkward to guess out the Japanese by the Kanji, but this is the best I can do. Being a Yuzu fan may make me try to learn Japanese...

Sorry, just summed up. It has "Anguish of the Champion not having broadcasted" sort of title, and showing the scenes that their camera caught as the signs of Yuzuru's suffering.

And his message was read at the ceremony for the Worlds. He has had intermittent stomaches since GPF, and was advised by Doctor to do a medical work-up.

Yuzuru said;

"As I'm feeling sick, it was a bit hard."

After SP, he was talking with Mura about what happened before. (I think this is about the happening they had nearly collided in 6-minute practice rather before.)

Then, the next day, he did not move or jump so much in the practice as usual. Surely he looked tired with less speed and heavy breathing to the eyes of the sport journalist, Yoshie Noguchi.

Failed 4S jumps in 6-minute practice, and holding his hand against the stomach after the performance. Shortness of breathing, and sweat in the interview. He said, "I am too tired to enjoy the victory" gasping. He said to someone behind him "Wasn't that so hard since the time of the Final?"

Get well soon, our Champion

EDIT: The latter is about Machida's retirement, and greeting and cheering others in the backstage.

Last year, it was Oda, and this year, Machida. I will surely miss you, Macchi
