There was an 6.9 earthquake in Japan in Miyako, about 275 north of Sendai.

There are no reports of major damage. So far no tsunamis either.
Earthquakes around 5 on the scale aren't too worrying for most. 6 is a bit scary. --The most dangerous thing about an earthquake in the north, in winter, are avalanches in the mountains. So far, so good.
