Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

The amount of transitions in Yuzuru's R&J 2.0 is insane. And both his PW and Chopin SP are packed with difficult moves. The current POTO has less transitions because of Yuzuru's health condition this season, especially after the collision.
And Shae-lynn herself also said POTO is actually not completed. So if Yuzuru is healthy, his POTO or even Chopin might actually be jampacked again.

I couldn’t tell how many transitions he had in R&J 2.0, PW and Chopin. But he looked really busy doing something, but I couldn’t tell what he was trying to do, as I felt most of the busy moves had little connection to the music. I guess all those transitions were added to get the points. I hope Yuzu becomes more consistent. I actually prefer choreography with less transitions, because the moves have more purpose. So I actually think POTO is a better choreography. But he probably scores less points with that choreography.

I personally don’t think he gets too much reputation boost. He always skates poorly at the beginning of the season, thus losing his reputation. He had to rebuild his reputation starting from grand prix final. At the end of the season, he restored his reputation. But the same pattern starts when the new season starts. He loses his reputation again at the beginning of the season and restores his reputation in the second half of the season. So I don’t think he has a very consistent reputation and he doesn’t get very generous scoring.

Actually I liked a lot R&J 2.0, and with more more time now you can see how difficult this program was . It was really packed with difficult moves. I think POTO was designed to give diffrent feeling, and more breathing space in order to have energy to execute 3 quads, but choreo wasn't finish due to the reason we all know, so.. : )

Original Chopin with quad in 2nd half beside placing of quad had very, very difficult steps right before the quad, but they changed it also after COC injuires

Unfortunately, with my untrained eyes, I can't tell how difficult the programs are, except Yuzu looked really busy skating them. But fans who appreciate the difficulty will appreciate the programs much more.

I appreciate it when it is reasonably packed and choreographed. I liked R&J2, but for example this year Javier's LP is just too much for me to handle  I don't enjoy this program at all

Are you sure it's not the annoying vocals? ;)

And if I'm on the topic of annoying vocals, I wish Yuzuru had chosen some other singer's version of POTO because that otherwise cool moment when Yuzuru closes his hand on "blaaaame" is just so horribly drilling to my ears. Argh. Almost as annoying as Javier's "Figaro Figaro Figaro" lol. Oh well, what can we do.

I might be in the minority but I like the version he chose :slink:

I think the music cuts are good, just the voice is a bad voice lol.

For those of you who want to know, apparently a CM for the Worlds was shown last night in Japan featuring Hanyu-san. Now of course maybe it doesn't really mean anything, but maybe it means that he is still going as far they know. ;)

I like the version he chose too...maybe anything in comparison to Kanako's is great?? :slink:

Edit to add: Just found this video from twitter. It is the opening of the winter park in Sendai in 2008 and features Hanyu-san in a sparkly black costume I've not seen before! among other things....

I believe as long as there is no news it means that he will go to Shanghai. And I am used to days without any news of Yuzu the Ninja.

I do not know much about differences between the versions of POTO but I really like the music cuts. It is very natural and soft. Yes, I just don't get Kanako's music cuts and the new one is no better.

? R&J2 sure, but Chopin? I really think the transition and choreo matched perfectly and were highlighted by the music. In PW less highlighting, but still everything matched to the music, though everything he does isn't at the forefront, I think because it's designed to make everything look easy and cool, though I see how that may miss the mark and look busy/not connected.

About falls: IA, I'm fine for 2 points deduction, but anything more than that both puts the system off balance as you said and also makes falls punished disproportionately to stepouts etc. increasing serial deductions are pointless and no points is ridic.

ETA: don't worry youre not posting too much, this kind of discussion is good esp compared to conspiracy theories/freaking out (not to put down anyone who does)

I think I'm getting used to it as well ... and besides, isn't it better if we don't hear from Yuzu sometimes so he can have time away from the media? I like that he can train in either Sendai/Toronto without the media constantly reporting what he's doing 24/7 or even weekly. (Hearing no news means no changes I guess)

Are you guys talking about the "beeee" part before the 3A-1L-3S?

Yes, that part, you are correct, no wonder I have been singing that in my head for the whole day. For me, that was what I meant. Is there another part?

I have not been watching TV lately because of research work, may I know what channel showed the Worlds teaser?

Last night my six year old was reading Magic Tree House in his bed, and he asked me what “gangly boy” means. I told him it means a boy with long arms and legs. He looked at his short arms and legs and asked if he was gangly. I said no, and he asked for an example. So I presented Yuzu.

“Oh I know him”, he said.

“And that helps him skate beautifully”, I added.

“Like this?” my boy asked. Then he stood up in the bed, spreading his arms and legs, mimicking the turns and footsteps, even jumps, like he was skating. He watched Yuzu’s R & J 2.0 many times with me from iPad.

“I feel I am gangly like Yuzuru Hanyu”, he said.

I laughed. And suddenly I realized how much I miss Yuzu.

Wish him well, from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you for sharing that video! I saw everything I could find with Yuzuru , but this video I didn't see.
