Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

We are getting closer and closer to the Worlds! It's been so long that I felt that I might tear up just at the sight of him...what have you done to me, kid? :drama:

Totally agree! I guess I might go as crazy as I did when his recent lotte chocolate Valentine's video was released:drama: !!

Well, they were sensationalizing. We'll see who's laughing in the end...

The cake looks delicious, too.

We probably have been over-sentimental and over-reacted. It would be great if you can post a friendly reminder from time to time to prevent the panic from going out of control.

For me there's no consistency more 'impressive' than another in regards to Liza and Elena, every consistency in anything is valuable because they are completing what they set to do, considering that both are doing their jobs at very similar positions, but anyway,it diverts from the topic of Yuzuru.

I don't think we can evaluate properly Yuzuru's consistency this season because of the situations he has been through and how they affected his performances. What I see is that he has a history of doing better late at the season, much like Denis Ten, and that's the only pattern that happened again even if this season was a complete anomaly.

In general, I don’t like to judge someone else’s decision. Everyone weighs the associated cost and benefit when making a decision. Unless I can put myself in that person’s shoes, I don’t think I will know the full reasoning behind his/her decision. Even if I do understand their reasoning, I may value different things from them and I don’t want to say that someone’s decision is wrong or bad just because he/she values different things from me (The only exception is when I think the decision is unethical). That’s why I don’t like to join discussions like whether a skater should include a 4T, 4S or 3A in their program. The skater knows more about his/her own physical condition and mindset than a spectator like me. The skater decides on the level of risk he/she is willing to take. So I will generally respect whatever decision/strategy a skater makes. Even when Yuzu skated after the COC collision, I don’t think he did the wrong thing. He made the decision at the time based on the doctor’s advice. The doctor gave him ok to skate. Unless I have the medical expertise to question the doctor’s advice, otherwise I would just respect his decision. It’s just that the skate was very painful to watch.

However, I do feel that if a skater that takes a bigger risk and skates decently, he deserves more credit than someone who takes a smaller risk; otherwise it wouldn’t be fair to the skater who takes a bigger risk (given that the extra bring can potentially cause more injuries). Yuzu gave more high quality performances this season than most skaters. Given Yuzu’s conditions and the difficulty of his programs, I would give him more credit for his performances and consistency. (I consider difficulty/risk is the most important factor when making any fair comparison or judging in a sport.)

 ;) Skater's decisions seems to be the topic of a lot of discussions though, maybe more people should adopt this approach lol

Japanese Yuzuru CM for 2015 Worlds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvZhWvtorGA.I thought it would be even better if it included footage of his soul-stirring 2013 Worlds LP performance (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XMH9zVq9Lg).

Like now, Yuzuru was then coming off from illness and injury. He rallied from from a nightmare SP that left him in tears and in ninth place and eventually placed fourth; and with Daisuke Takahashi (who placed sixth) ensured three spots for the Japanese men in Sochi.

an article about yuzuru translated by tumblr user 311mi, there isnt anything we dont already know but i like some of things they said about him like
Yuzuru Hanyu has a long and slim body, a warm and gentle personality, a pure and bright smile, a beautiful face that makes even girls sweat and cry, and also the type of “fresh face” that is currently popular in the younger generation. In addition to his Olympic gold medal, when you put all these factors together, of Japan’s men’s skating team, Yuzuru Hanyu has become one of the hottest contenders and also one of the biggest stars of the ice stage

I really hope he will be in good condition at WCH. I wouldn't like to see him fall not once.. I worry when he falls.
