Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

But wait, Yuzuru has been the top male skater in Japan for a few years now. Why hasn't he been there before? Because of the injuries? Because, IIRC, Yuzuru has always competed at Worlds with some kind of injury, so maybe that's why he wasn't there? He could actually pull that off again if it were the case since he's still injured. Sorry I'm just kind of confused

2012 = Ankle injury
2013 = Illness + ankle injury
2014 = No WTT because it was Olympic season
2015 = Crash, Surgery, Ankle injury......but still might have to go since this year there really isn't anyone else who can cover Team Japan and he's healed a bit since the actual injuries. I think most people would understand (expect haters) if he were to skip out but he would probably be sanctioned by the ISU officals. hwell:

Have they started to sell tickets of single competition? I only saw the price for all-events tickets.

I don't believe so (I'm waiting to buy them, too). I think they'll start selling them this fall? Not sure though

Can we talk about something positive, namely how cute he is in the K&C when the camera panned back to him, how he did the "taking off the phantom mask" act?

I think at this point, if he does go to WTT, it's him who really wants to go. See how he was still practicing his 4S entry while waiting for the medal ceremony? Oh, so who thinks he will try to do a quad in today's EX gala?? Show of hands??

Yeah, I know. What I meant is why hadn't he been there before. Maybe at 2012 Takahashi was still the top skater, but Yuzuru was definitely the best of Japan in 2013, yet he wasn't there. And all that happened between 4CC and Worlds was the only logical reason I could come up with. Thank you

Same here, can not take one week off at the end of March. Hopefully they would put mens and ladies competition together to the end.

Re: to the possible participation of Yuzuru in the upcoming World Team Trophy in two weeks time, in my opinion, if he can, he should refuse to enter because he still need more time to rest, heal his injuries and more time to training. Imagine after all his injuries, his illness and his operation, he only had about 2 or 3 weeks to train for world, with no coach, all alone by himself at the rink, maybe at nighttime since this is the only time available for him in Sendai. So he could not do his programs the way that he wanted to do. If the WTT is like a cheezy competition at the end of the season, he should put his health in first place. Especially what he can do for Team Japan in the WTT ? Their only pairs and their ice dance couple could not even make the cut or qualification at World to skate the free program. It's not very funny for him to skate light out and see his Team will lose anyway. Sometimes, you have to think of your health in first place. Let the JSF brings their upcoming stars to the WTT and let them skate for their glory.
That is my opinion, for me the health of Yuzuru is the most important thing right now.
Sorry if that sounds hard for the WTT or the JSF.

Even from the beginning of the season (I remember seeing it way back in the summer at that show he was in) he has improved. I always liked the program but after this Championships, for some reason, have so much more appreciation for it. Especially the StSq; for me, +3. A Mao-level sequence and really shows off his skating skills. To me, his quality is unmatched in this current field. Like Max said, this is what figure skating today is supposed to be.

I watched Men's SP and LP live with my boyfriend at a cafe. I pinched my boyfriend's arm so hard when Yuzu fell lol I need to check him later if he sustain some bruises (hope not!)

It was a bitter sweet ending. I'm sad Yuzu unable to perform at his best, but I'm truly glad Javi took the gold. Yuzu also wouldn't be happy if he won with that performance, and the fans feel the same. I was in tears when he screamed. It says a lot how much he fought for it. Regardless of the result, he is still the king no one can take it away from him. even my boyfriend who is a casual viewer and doesn't know much about figure skating said, "this guy is something. even from far away, you can feel he is looking at you. no wonder he is an Olympic champion."

this is a huge lesson for yuzu. now yuzu knows that he can't push his limits all the time because this can affect him for a long run. listen to your body and rest when you need it. i know yuzu will come back stronger next season and can't wait to see his progress/development i believe in him.

and it was so heart-warming to see yuzu fans are supportive of javi even my boyfriend was amazed by the comradeship shown by yuzu's fans. you guys rocks
