Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

I think that if there is a correlation between flexibility and jumping it would be jumping technique, not number of falls. And the examples were mentioned already, like Elena (her technique is far from sound still she hangs on to those landings, so no fall correlation) and Julia (still was superbly consistent at 2013-2014 season, sometimes with thigh landing too like Elena). Also Mao, she had a tendency to only fall on the 3A, but she would be upright on the other triples even if they were UR. So I think that the number of flexible skaters that have dubious jumping technique and usually UR or doesn't have the best jumps but stay on their feet is far bigger than the number of flexible skaters that fall all over the place. If they do their problem is most of the times between their ears, not on their legs ... (see Sasha). Still I think it's silly to compare female skaters to male ones because the level of demand for men is much bigger so more factors play into it (stamina; all the men being more prone to errors than women in general due to the layout; the 'flexible' for a woman being already much higher than what 'flexible' means for a man etc). Yuzuru being an exception of a flexible skater with sound technique on most of his jumps, except the flip.

I wonder at the 2020 Olympics, if Yuzuru will be part of the lighting of the torch in the opening ceremony. You know?

In Japan, 50 years have passed since they had summer Olympic (Tokyo Olympic 1964).
There’s no recent years’ Olympic.

However, as practice, in summer Olympics, it seems kinds of former athletes in summer event will participate in lighting the torch.
There’s many legend in summer event in Japan. Unn..
However, I don’t think there are quite a few former athletes who have much worldwide popularity like yuzu…

His flip is even more consistent than his lutz lol. Actually I think his flip is not much of a big problem for him as long as he lands it and only get !, this season, half of the competitions he didn't get ! at all. Since the angle of his flip is usually flat or very unclear it's impossible to call him. At least he doesn't avoid it and goes for it no matter what the judges appreciate that effort. You see the Russian men avoid the Flip.

Anyways Yuzuru has been voted as the best short program of the season for men: https://twitter.com/icenetwork/status/590983618522054656

I think he might quit flip when he enters 4 lutz in FP in the future.
Correcting edge error is difficult.. I remembered Sochi’s FP. "He had a concern for flip error, so he failed", Japanese commentator (Mr.Honda, former skater) said.

When it comes to Lutz, I was wondering why he had failed this season.
In PW in WTT 2015, his Lutz combo was awesome, as if he had done it in his sleep…

Congrats, Yuzu! Best SP. Thank you Jeff!

He said its due to him not having time to gather enough speed going into the combo. It has a difficult entry/steps going into it and he says that its due to his "lack of skill" that he fails on the 3T. The timing of the music (and injuries) probably effect it as well...

“It is the same for everyone. No matter what job you are doing. No matter who you are. It is how life is.”
“You only realise that you are weak when you want to get better. Therefore, I love challenges or when I realise my own weakness.”

The 3lz3T issue in SP has a lot to do with the timing and choreography (difficult to jump on the right note). He admitted he has troubled with accelerating speed for the lutz in SP. I guess had he been to Canada and asked Jeff to adjust the choreography he might have done it better.

Most strong lutz jumper hates the flip, even Liza hates the flip. Gracie has strong lutz and bad flip, Elena and Radionova the same. Even Yuna lipped now and then when she still competed (eh I hope her fans don't kill me, just an example okay, she is the best lutz jumper). Most Russian men avoid the flip.

I think the fact that Yuzuru still goes for flip is appreciated a lot by the judges and ISU (for a balance layout). So unless in the future he adds 4Loop to LP, the flip will stay, for at least the next season I suppose. And his flip is actually not bad at all. Aside from the quads, the flip is his third highest triple after the axel and the lutz. :p

The important thing is that he doesn't lip

His Ina Bauer during WTT TJ's Storm performance. I swear it just gets better and better :o:

Yes! I read comments of people who thought he was going to have to drop the Ina Bauer and the Biellmann after the surgery, but it actually seems as if it improves every time!

I thought the same thing! He may not be the one who lights it up in the end, but he could be one of those who carry the torch into the stadium. At least I hope so!

I completely agree!! Seriously, I thought the ina bauer in his WTT FS was so breathtaking, I actually had to repeat it a few times before I could get over it. I love the arc he makes on the ice (strangely enough, I don't really see other skaters doing the ina bauer that way?), and I especially love the movement of his arms with it.
