@pandaatlarge, I'm sorry that both you and your work were attacked with unfair criticism. There are alot of international fans who don't speak Japanese and there have been times when words have been mistranslated (often times, not on purpose) and have caused misunderstandings. That's why I really appreciate those who spent time translating things for us even though they don't have to at all.

Just want to say something here because I saw something very unpleasant towards my work (assuming some of you already recognized my ID).

I am not the one who wrote "former Olympic champion". I always use reigning Olympic champion. I couldn't check the online article right after it was posted and pointed out the mistake earlier, because I had been working on writing the article until 5 o'clock in the morning, and couldn't stay up any more after submission and a few words with the editor. I only admitted one mistake in the article which I made, is that I misspelled Mura's name. The other one I found, "three performances" for the show wasn't written by me either, I knew there would be four from the beginning but I couldn't stay up to check.

And the feeling that the words don't sound like him doesn't mean he didn't say it. Not perfect translation? Sure. Inaccurate wording? Some, as someone already pointed out. Wrong translation? I don't think so, at all. Like what I wrote in my blog today, during the translation process to make the points clearer, or fit the English structure better, or to be more logical (as sometimes skaters' words are not the most well-organized), sometimes I intentionally not to use the exact apple to apple translation, but make slight adjustment based on how I understand what the skater means.

So, I cannot accept the accusement of not checking freelance author's work, and being mad at what you don't want to believe it is what he said.

I hope you are not too discouraged Panda, please don't be. Translating is not an exact science and I totally understand why you would not want to do a literal word-for-word translation. --Sometimes it just doesn't flow right in the English language.
I think you did a good job.

As for what Yuzu said, I think it's good that he is showing an aggressively confident attitude. He hasn't insulted anyone, he hasn't put anyone else's skating down, he's just really, into his program.

I'd like to hear more of your personal impression of the program too Panda. Of course, as fans, we would be blindly loving of almost anything Yuzu does, but from your personal stand-point, did you like the program?

A lot of this stuff was covered in part by various news outlets and translated by other kind people. I'll just share some of the things that haven't been translated before.

As always, other native Japanese speakers, if you spot an error, please correct the translation.
Yuzu chose the name for his program "SEIMEI" in English (romaji) uppercase letters so that it would be associated with the character but also with the other meanings of the word 'SEIMEI'
He wanted to expand his borders this season and listened to many different music pieces. Amidst the trial and error, the thought of doing a Japanese style came up. So he listened to music from various TV dramas and chose one that foreigners would also listen to, from the movie Omyoji.

If the idea indeed occurred to him, What a “SMART” thought he had because “SEIMEI” has multiple meanings (plus most of them are as positive meanings) unless it was in Kanji “晴明”.

For example…(All of them are pronounced “Seimei” in Japanese.)

1.生命 means LIFE, LIVING…etc
2.姓名 means THE NAME
3.盛名 means FAME, RENOWN…etc
4.声明 means STATEMENT
5.声名 means REPUTATION, REPUTE, CELEBRITY…etc
6.清明 means LUCIDITY
7.性命 means THE ESSENTIAL QUALITIES and TALENT as Providence , FATE…etc
8.誓盟 means PLEDGE, OATH, PROMISE….etc
9.聖明 means (Emperor’s ) WISDOM, VIRTUOUS

Grabbing the blade for maneuvers like Biellmann and Donut Spin can lead to cuts and raw skin. I think that's why people wear gloves usually. i rarely wear gloves when I skate because I usually am working up a sweat but I'm sure some people get cold too.

I love the music AND the costume!! I'm one who usually is quite skeptical of his costumes at first, but this one seems to fit the program well and I like that it doesn't have lots of ruffles and bling. Yuzu doesn't NEED bling to shine guys! He shines all on his own through his skating and wonderful personality.

Can someone tell me how "SEIMEI" is pronounced as an English speaker might say it?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think if you want to say it with the Japanese tone, you can use the sei from the English word "set" without the T sound. And the mei from the word "met" without the T sound.

Haha that would be better than my imagination. Last night I was thinking of all the ways they would pronounce it, the worst one being say-e-may-e (???) and I laughed out loud cause it sounded like "say ye matey" in a pirate's voice

Yeah but he always uses it for the FS, and SEIMEI is his FS :agree: , though they were never flesh coloured. Maybe he's keeping it simple with the gloves because there is something more complicated to come in the rest of his costume?
