Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

I think it may be better for Yuzu to compete with Patrick early in the season? I do not think Patrick will go to 4CC since he doesn't like to take a long fly.
Sometimes I feel Yuzu like to compete with strong competitor. It will bring more challenges for Yuzu.

It may be so! Anyway, things have totally changed.. Of course, yuzu is not the type of person who hate to face the challenge!

I do not understand the fed. The venue of NHK Trophy this year is really small.
The tickets are easy to sold out even Yuzu is not in.
I prefer Yuzu not to take NHK since it's really close to GPF.
Wondering what factors might be the consideration of the fed..

There's also audience rating to consider. Besides, Yuzu loves to stay in Japan. Maybe he's actually super happy about taking NHK.

Hi guys ! I'm now seriously planning to go to Barcelona. Did someone go to the GPF last year ? Or does somebody know the price ranges for the tickets ?
Some info about last year's GPF --> HERE

No guarantee that prices will remain the same this year though...

Thank you so much. Of course I expect the prices to increase, but for an all-event ticket, the price was extremely reasonable.

He didn't choose. It's the fed choice.

last year JSF unexpectedly and brutally lost Machida, the number two in the world and they also lost their third spot at Worlds... I agree Yuzu (and Mao ) had no choice about NHK , but I'm not so sure about SC and Chan ...

Do you think JSF forced Yuzu to go twice against Chan in the Olympic season GPF series or was it Yuzuru's choice?

in any case I find it's funny the way sometimes a skater is supposed to be totally JSF free in his choice and sometimes just the opposite..

I don't think the situation is about beating Chan. He can beat him doing FP with 2 quads. His biggest enemy will be his 3 quads LP, which I think he is going to bomb a little at beginning

JSF has nothing to do with who Skate Canada invites (ok there are backdoor agreement, still it hasn't direct control over it...) Also while it's true that skaters do not have control on where they go, top seed can make known what their preference would be and normally they're listened to...

It's fed choice means Skate Canada invites. Yuzuru (along with Mao) is currently JSF main stars so they must do NHK no matter what. When he did SC 2013, that time JSF still had Dai.
Whether skater can go to any events also depends on the fed choice. For example French fed might not care if Yuzuru/Patrick/Javi or any other strong men skate at TEB because they have no strong contender, but US fed and Russian Fed might not want Yuzuru/Patrick to go there because they want higher chances for their own skaters.
SA invited Denis because Jason has more choice beating Denis (for his record at GPs) than Yuzuru/Javi/Patrick.
Same for the reason Yuna was never invited to NHK.

I agree with you.

Quite similar to other GPs: for example, the ticket for Saturday (FS programs in pairs, ice dance and singles) was 30-90€. IMO, this year it'll be a bit more expensive.

so what about SC inviting Yuzuru when Chan and Nam compete there?

gsyzf did a really good analysis of how Yuzu ended up with SC here:

I honestly feel skaters have very limited choices on GP assignments. The hosts pick the skaters. IMO, Yuzuru is invited by SC not because he chose SC, but because SA would not invite him (they want to invite Denis to give Jason a better chance of qualifying to the final) and I don't think anyone wants him to compete at COC again. So he can only compete at SC. Javi got two easy assignments Coc and COR (he has almost no competitors at both events) because GPF is in Spain, they want him to qualify. Javi can't go to SA (Denis/Jason), SC (Yuzu/Patrick) or NHK (Yuzu). TEB is too close to COC. So he got COC and COR. Patrick can only go to SC and TEB because SA will not invite him (because of Jason), NHK will not invite him (because of Yuzu), COC and COR will not invite him because Javi will be there and they want Javi to qualify for the final. The only other option Yuzu can go to is TEB, but Patrick will be there too, so it makes no difference whether Yuzu faces Patrick at SC or TEB. I think if SC has to choose between Patrick facing Yuzu at SC or TEB, they will choose SC because Patrick will get some home ice advantage. And Denis will be at TEB, so Yuzu cannot be there, unless Denis goes to SA and SC, and Yuzu goes to TEB and NHK which is unlikely because SA and SC are back to back.

About why SC would invite Yuzu which dimishes chances of Nam and Patrick: well, true that Yuzu could beat Patrick but even if, Patrick is almost certain to make the GPF so it doesn't matter where they meet, most likely all the desired matchups included Yuzu/Patrick. The one whose chances are truly dimished by Yuzu's presence is Nam becuse he it's unlikely he will make it higher than 3rd. But then there's question if Brian Orser's availability, it's probably better for the skaters to limit their coach's travelling time, Elizabet Tursynbaeva is also going to SC. Besides, Yuzuru's preference might have been SC, to practice against Patrick, little travel involved, not too close in time to NHK.

Had Patrick been on WC Shanghai 2015 podium then Yuzuru wouldn't have gone there. SA doesn't want both Yuzuru and Javi this year. So one of them must be at SC. Javi did SC last season. So this time it's Yuzuru.

Yuzuru must avoid events that Javi has chosen (CoC and CoR) so only TEB or SC. Yuzuru must be at NHK because of JSF, TEB is too close to NHK so not a good choice. In the end it's SC that is most reasonable to NHK.

Now I am afraid that Yuzuru might never go to TEB again given that it's a bit close to NHK. CoR is out of question. So all his choice will be SA, SC or CoC in the next 3 years. NHK he must do. He can only go to TEB again if JSF agree to release him just one year. But I doubt it.

The way I see it both wanted to go, SC and Yuzu. One of the top three had to compete against Chan, and no one more willing to than Yuzu, he loves challenges :)

if this is the case , SC will expose their own skaters to their bigger risk (Yuzu) , because Yuzu loves challanges; or do SC think Javi is the main threat to Chan and Nam actually ?

Maybe? because javi is the current world champion?

I think it's because gpf is in Spain this year. They don't want javi to compete against any strong skaters so he can qualify to the final. So either Yuzu or Denis has to face Patrick. Not that javi is a bigger threat, but rather javi competing at sc lowers javi's chance of qualifying to the final.

Denis faces Patrick at teb. If Patrick has to face Yuzu once, sc probably prefers Patrick competes against Yuzu at sc because Patrick will get some home ice advantage.

this is an interesting point of view.

Well, they all couldn't have Denis. Javi as #1 might have made his preferences known as to CoR and CoC since these are apparently easiest to win. The federation of CoR diesn't have its own gold contender so they were ok with it and CoR not really either (although Voronov might be capable if beating Denis) and since everybody wants Javi to make it to Barcelona it was honored. (Notice that Nam will be sent to CoR with Javi where he has the highest chance of getting the silver. ) So it probably ws the matter of SA SC both wanting Denis rather than Yuzu (TEB doesn't have a horse in it) and SA getting what they wanted. But then Yuzuru's preferences might have come into play and been honored... And let's not forget that Yuzuru does attract ticket buyers.

ETA: gzysf has a good point: they could send Yuzu to TEB to maximize Nam's chances but then Patrick would be skating against Yuzu without the home advantage.

I found something heartwarming. A fan drew this scene of Yuzu saying hi to his Japanese team members...he hugged Machida. I think this is at the end while saying goodbye, Machida ruffled Yuzu's head. Must be the first time they met since Yuzu was hospitalised and Machida retired.

In the interview:
"Do you think the character Onmyoji fits you?"

"Yes, I think I may be that type. I'm sort of slightly-built, or, apparently I'm not a Samurai type.... I may be able to do Onnagata, haha.."

Onnagata (or Oyama)
